A special election for the United States Senate in Ohio is scheduled to be held not later than November 4, 2025, following the election of incumbent Senator JD Vance as Vice President of the United States. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has not yet announced a appointee for the seat to succeed Vance.
According to Ohio law, if a U.S. Senate seat becomes vacant, the governor appoints a replacement who serves until December 15 following the next regular state election that occurs more than 180 days after the vacancy. A special election to fill the remainder of the term is then held during that regular state election, which would be on November 4, 2025, which is more than 180 days later. [1]
