The 2028 United States Senate election in Ohio will be held on November 7, 2028, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Ohio.
One-term Republican Senator JD Vance was first elected in 2022. He was later nominated for vice president of the United States in the 2024 presidential election by Donald Trump, ultimately winning the vice presidency and the Senate presidency. Vance vacated his seat on January 10, 2025, and governor Mike DeWine appointed lieutenant governor Jon Husted to the seat the following week on January 17. The special election is being held in 2026.
The last time Democrats held this seat was in 1999, when Senator John Glenn retired and was succeeded by George Voinovich.
