Close rephrasing/referencing issues (friendly question)

Hello. I have an open-ended question here. How can we not come close to rephrasing other sources if we are allowed no original research whatsoever and everything needs to be backed up by secondary sources apparently? I feel like this latter policy has changed a little recently, or is maybe being taken too far by some editors (not necessarily yourself, just asking you because you seem friendly and may have some good advice). Honestly, I don't think it is possible. In my own academic work (outside Wikipedia, in journals), I quote and cite a lot of other sources, and then I add my own original research. But here, if we can't do that at all, it seems a bit strange. A new policy seems to be that relevance needs to be backed up by secondary sources as well: for example, on the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden, another editor won't let me add that the monument mentions the names of donors like Larry King or Lili Bosse (inscribed upon the monument itself), which would seem to be like a description of the monument, not anything that needs to be referenced aside from a picture (and perhaps an additional reference from the official website for the monument). Do you get my drift? I was also not accused of paraphrasing when I created mustang wine, even though every sentence is referenced.Zigzig20s (talk) 21:15, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

I am tempted to undo this edit, except if you can convince me otherwise.

1. The article provides a link to the verse in Isaiah 66:2: וְחָרֵד עַל-דְּבָרִי and its archaic translation, and trembleth at My word, which I changed to Modern English trembles. So you can see why the words one who belong in brackets.
2. I'm pretty sure that the word word in the phrase The word connotes refers to the word trembles (hared, וְחָרֵד) and not to the word word (דְּבָרִי); so why the added quotation mark glyphs? -- -- -- 21:12, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

The above article has been 5x expanded. Please review it. The lead has been expanded in order to provide accessible overview to the readers. There might be a few mistakes in the current version, but hopefully they would be resolved. Thanks for suggesting me to expand the article a week ago, now it's in a much better state. In addition to the book Begins with the Oboe I have used the biography of Sir Ernest MacMillan written by Ezra Schabas. I will propose alternate hook on the Ruth Budd nomination template shortly. "New enough" criteria for BLP

Thanks for your comments on Template:Did you know nominations/Maynard (broadcaster),where you said "The article before the expansion did have some refs, so it has to qualify under the 5x expansion rule."

I have added the relevant information to that page showing how it meets this requirement, but being quite new to Wikipedia, I was wondering if you can tell me where I can find out more about this requirement. Up to now, I worked from the rules at Wikipedia:Did_you_know/New_article, but that page does not make any distinction whether the original had refs. Hello, Yoninah! About ten days ago I read the article on Cherub. I made some minor copy-edits but found other issues about which I could not be sure, so I wrote them up in a comment on my talk page at User talk:CorinneSD#Cherub and pinged another editor to see if he could address the issues. He replied that it was not his field and would have to read up on it first. It's been a while, so I thought I'd ask you if you could answer my questions.
