Happy New Year, Yoninah!

Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Happy New Year fireworks}} to user talk pages.

@SkyGazer 512: I saw this greeting on someone else's talk page and wished I had one too. Thank you! Happy New Year to you and yours. Yoninah (talk) 11:42, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

New article

Just fyi, I wasn't thinking DYK when I started it, and it may well be topic in which you have no interest, but I just created English Channel migrant crisis (am working to improve it; I know a lot more about crossing the Channel in a small boat than I do about fashion,) it could have a hook like DYK... that smugglers in France charge £3,000 a person to carry illegal immigrants across the English Channel in small, stolen boats?E.M.Gregory (talk) 18:04, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

@E.M.Gregory: I don't think I'll be adding anything there, not my area of interest. If it's well sourced, though, I could nominate it for you at DYK. Yoninah (talk) 19:18, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, I would appreciate that.E.M.Gregory (talk) 19:35, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
@E.M.Gregory: so when you're ready to move any article from your sandbox to mainspace, you click on the "move" tab at the top of the page, check off "Article" under "New title", make sure it's the right title in the box to the left of "Article" (i.e. just the article title, no username or sandbox or slashes), add write something like "Moving to mainspace" or "Ready for primetime" under "Reason", and then click "Main page". Yoninah (talk) 11:10, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
@Yoninah:, just fyi, I created : Eyal Shani and Miznon. thank you again.E.M.Gregory (talk) 22:55, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Die Zeit, die Tag und Jahre macht

Happy 2019 -

begin it with music and memories

Thank you for your help last year, especially with psalms and DYK wording! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:01, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: thank you, and happy new year to you too! The concert hall looks beautiful; I imagine the acoustics are very good in it too. Yoninah (talk) 18:56, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
The hall looks exquisit, but I never was there. The DYK image was taken at Unionskirche, Idstein. Good acoustics, a bit on the dry side, which is good for the fast details Bach composed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:08, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
I began expanding Psalm 96. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:37, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
Next: Psalm 2 (long already, just for the formatting, thank for the Hebrew!), and Psalm 75, extremely short ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:13, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: Psalm 2 finished, Psalm 75 ready for your expansion (does the lead need fixing?). Yoninah (talk) 00:25, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Please check out "Happy" once more, for a smile, and sharing (a Nobel Peace Prize), and resolutions. I wanted that for 1 January, but then wasn't sad about having our music pictured instead. Not too late for resolutions, New Year or not. DYK that he probably kept me on Wikipedia, back in 2012? By the line (which brought him to my attention, and earned the first precious in br'erly style) that I added to my editnotice, in fond memory? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:59, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

January
Famara, Lanzarote

Thank you for 2 an 75, will hopefully do my share, but am on vacation, - limited service ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:04, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: I've spent a lot of time at Commons trying to come up with an image, without success. I thought to show an image of a horn, or an overflowing cup, but can't come up with anything. Perhaps after you add some musical settings, we'll be able to draw something from that. Otherwise, there's always the old standby File:Psalms scroll.PNG. Yoninah (talk) 19:51, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
I began Chandos Anthems, which was a red link from Psalm 96: LOTS of psalms. Most still lack links, and I never found them, being just numbers, without the word psalm attached. How about Psalm 93 next, short enough to be DYK, hopefully. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:59, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your help for Goldberg Variations (play), and the good hook! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:34, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Next psalm: 127? There's much already, no DYK, just completeness. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:16, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, apparently this was put on hold based on a comment you made somewhere (WT:DYK?), and seems to be waiting for a response from you. If you could post to the review in some fashion, perhaps we can get it moving again. Thank you for anything you can do. BlueMoonset (talk) 13:56, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Just a quote

Just a quote from wolf spider, "Wolf spiders are members of the family Lycosidae, from the Ancient Greek word "λύκος" meaning "wolf". They are robust and agile hunters with excellent eyesight. They live mostly in solitude and hunt alone, and do not spin webs". "Geolycosa burrows can also be distinguished because, like most other spider burrows, they are lined with silk". Crisper

The Special Barnstar
Thanks for all your help reviewing and promoting Crisper drawer at DYK, as well as improving the article with an image of your impressively tidy refrigerator. Chetsford (talk) 08:16, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Chetsford: I guess it was tidy because I'd just come home from the Mahane Yehuda Market with my weekly produce shop and hadn't yet cooked anything! Thanks again! Yoninah (talk) 13:45, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
The Photographer's Barnstar
Bet you never thought you'd get this one, did you? But your crisper drawer was just the photo that article needed, colorful and tasty-looking, and makes an excellent companion to W.carter's Commons FP photo of her fridge (which I am equally glad has found an article it can be used in. Black History Month

I see at Template:Did you know nominations/David Johnson (photographer) that you set aside the image for Black History Month in February. Can you take a look at my recently approved nomination of Template:Did you know nominations/Walt Torrence and see if that image might be appropriate as well? Thanks in advance.—Bagumba (talk) 03:01, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

@Bagumba: yes, I'll be happy to move it to the Black History Month section. I've been combing the nominations for appropriate hooks to file there. If you know of any other good hooks, please let me know! Best, Yoninah (talk) 10:08, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Michelle Leslie at DYK

Hi Yoninah. I refer to your edit here: [1]

The hook approved used the word "states". I would have thought 'states' was more neutral as per WP:CLAIM, or is claim more appropriate in this case as it is connected to a legal case? I am assuming good faith; can you explain your change to me? Thanks. :) Damien Linnane (talk) 02:23, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

@Damien Linnane: "Claims" is the word we usually use in DYK hooks. "States" would be something she did in court. I read the article and got the sense that she was criticizing the police as well as "stating" what she thought happened, so that's why I substituted "claimed". Yoninah (talk) 19:20, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Non-matching refs

Sorry you didn't like my fix at Shangri-La (house). I have this script installed (User:Ucucha/HarvErrors) and it tells me when there is a glitch in the refs in large red letters, that's why I saw/see it. The {{sfn}} doesn't work when you put the title as second parameter without proper parameter in the source, you need an 'author' or 'editor' for it to connect with the harv ref in Sources. With journals, some folks use the name of the publication or 'Staff - Name of publication'. There are a few other ways to fix this too, see Template:Sfn#No author name in citation template. Nice article though. :) cart-Talk 18:26, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

@W.carter: thank you. I wasn't aware of the page you cited; I used something off Help:Sfn. The problem here was that I had only a small page preview to work with, and couldn't find the name or author of the article. I hope I did it ok using the name of the publication in the citation. Yoninah (talk) 18:37, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
The first thing I did was actually to see if I couldn't find the author's name somewhere, but like you, I could only find that small thumb. ;-) I did a tweak per the instructions on Template:Sfn#No author name in citation template and now it works fine using the name of the article in the ref. The red text is gone now. Please, revert if you don't like it. cart-Talk 18:53, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
@W.carter: No, I like it! I think the {{harvid}} did the trick. I added it to my notes for next time :) Yoninah (talk) 19:12, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, this had been in limbo when the template wasn't retranscluded after being pulled from prep, and there's a specific request for your opinion on the latest proposed ALT hook. Can you please stop by and get this moving again? (Last comment was on January 4.) Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:33, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Second opinion request

Please see Template:Did you know nominations/Vikram Sood. I considered recommending writing an article about the book instead of the person... Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 19:13, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi yoninah, can you please elaborate what you meant by "double hook" ? Please excuse my ignorance, I am not very familiar with DYK terms. --DBigXray 15:14, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi @DBigXray: you can nominate two articles at the same time for DYK. (Or even more: see Wikipedia:Did you know/Multiple Article Hook Hall of Fame.) Each article is identified in the hook by a bolded link. The character count of the hook can be over 200 characters for a double hook, but shorter is preferable. Each article has to meet the start-class requirements for a DYK nomination. Let me know if you need further assistance. Best, Yoninah (talk) 17:05, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, I considered adding a nomination credit for your work on Template:Did you know nominations/Vikram Sood, but then I think I need to ask for two QPQs. Would you like me to remove those credits instead? Flibirigit (talk) 23:40, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
@Flibirigit: no thanks, I don't need any credit. Yoninah (talk) 23:41, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
In that case, I appreciate you volunteering to move this nomination forward. We're almost there with just the acronyms on the book's article to make consistent. Flibirigit (talk) 23:45, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

British English

Please stop applying your perceived version of British English to Wikipedia. While I appreciate you're making such edits in good faith, it's clear that you may not have the competence to do so, particularly in light of your recent claims that in British English we would put "the" in front of the name of a station, for example. It's an easy mistake to make, but what's important is that someone in your position should stop claiming that we make some kind of generalised stylistic approach based on English variation when it's clear you're not commensurate with how to implement that variant. The Rambling Man (talk) 23:32, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: thank you for the warning. I have been watching your edits to DYK hooks for many years and thought I understood what you were doing. Apparently not. It's probably for the best. British English isn't straightforward, and trying to apply generic rules is usually a recipe for failure. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 23:44, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Altered prep hook for Thomas Forsyth House

Hi, I saw you changed the hook we discussed for Thomas Forsyth House, currently in Prep 2. The ambiguity you cut out was, I think, what made it a humorous and good hook—and I thought that's why you favored it. It is intended to sound like Forsyth's wife went on a drinking binge, which invites further reading, while she was actually the model of temperance. Kim Post (talk) 03:21, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for promoting the DYK hook. Would it be possible to push it back to run on the evening of March 2nd (Eastern U.S. Time) to coincide with the start of the MLS season? Also, I had to revert your edits to the page, as MLS Cup 1999 was a rematch of the 1996 edition, while 2007 was the first rematch of two teams from the year before. SounderBruce 23:38, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

@SounderBruce: OK. But you need to give me a new hook that's verified by the source. The article does not say that it was the first championship rematch in Major League Soccer history. Yoninah (talk) 23:42, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
@SounderBruce: Please give me a revised hook ASAP. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 00:48, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Perhaps: ... that MLS Cup 2007 was the first Major League Soccer championship rematch to be played in consecutive years? SounderBruce 01:07, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
How about the wording from the article:

DYK for Psalm 75

On 28 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Psalm 75, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Bach set the phrase "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks" from Psalm 75 in German to begin a cantata, and in Latin in his Mass in B minor? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Psalm 75. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Psalm 75), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

we give thanks
Gratias agimus

Thank you so much for what you did for this psalm, others, and the spirit of DYK! - This one is the theme song of my life, so to speak, pictured, music which Bach also used for his final Dona nobis pacem. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:39, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

I did today Psalm 127, lead, ibox, KJV text, and formatting of the Musical setting which are particularly rich for that one. That section will grow, but otherwise I'm done for the moment, so don't fear edit conflicts ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:29, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Psalm 150 might be next, after the women. I just found out that we have no girls' choir, and not even a cathedral choir. No end of missing articles. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:38, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, I was wondering whether the nominator's work has sufficiently addressed the issues you raised. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:46, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Also, I just noticed that the nominator at Template:Did you know nominations/NGC 3665 has responded to your concern; if it isn't sufficient, then please let them know what would be needed. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:59, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Yet another expedited DYK review request

This time I'd like to get Paul Bateson (DYK nom here) onto the Main Page for March 5 (the 40th anniversary of his murder conviction. Do you think you can help? Daniel Case (talk) 05:03, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Bracha Zefira

On 3 March 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bracha Zefira, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Images in DYK articles

It happened again... Reviewer at Template:Did you know nominations/Walter Wasservogel stated a fair use image cannot be used. This is frustrating. Flibirigit (talk) 16:12, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

(watching: ) Flibirigit, no fair image can be used anywhere but in the article for which it is free. That's not the reviewers' fault, or decision. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

On 4 March 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Penny Rafferty Hamilton, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Psalms: what do you think of 13 next? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:10, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: OK, but I won't be able to work on it till the weekend. Busy getting ready for Purim! Yoninah (talk) 22:12, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
Enjoy the feast, - also Bach's birthday ;) - no rush, I noticed it's the only of the six psalms in Kiel's motets without expansion (the others 23, 133, 84, 130, 126). It will take a while until the DYK gets approved and shown. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:17, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: All done with Psalm 13. Not much to say there. Yoninah (talk) 21:46, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
A few more to look at eventually: Psalm 113, Psalm 122, Psalm 147 and Psalm 70. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:34, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I expanded Psalm 70. Please add some musical settings and anything else, and we can nominate it as a 5x expansion for DYK. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:44, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: we can use this as a QPQ for Psalm 70: Template:Did you know nominations/Let the Children March. Yoninah (talk) 19:29, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Should we do Psalm 40 next. I'll give "my" numbers a rest until after Easter, - too much sacred music already. Will do 113 and 122, because they are too long to be expanded 5*, but leave 147 for later which may work for DYK. Psalm 31 also to come. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:55, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
Gerda, I'm going to be busy for the next few weeks cleaning my house for Passover and celebrating the holiday. I hope to get back to these article expansions at the end of April. Yoninah (talk) 16:24, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
That's fine, enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:30, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
FYI, I removed the image from the Schütz composition, which is also not quite to the point of the article which is not about a painting. At least it's a great piece of art. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:48, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Trying to forget that topic: I turned to Psalm 118, to long for DYK. Strange format, didn't see the box there before, nor the highlighting of specific verses. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:01, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Back to Psalm 147: I am not sure but it has potential for DYK. Only: last day to nominate, and I am busy with celebrations in the family which will run to tomorrow. Could you make a nom, just in case we manage to expand enough? Just the split in the Vulgate + more lead should make a difference, and there could be more music - later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:28, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: OK, I'm working on it. Yoninah (talk) 21:41, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: we have till May 9 to do a nomination for Psalm 147. All you did on April 28 was expand the External Links. The real expansion started on May 2. But I will continue to try to source things. Yoninah (talk) 22:17, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I'm done. We need 2000 more characters for DYK, not to mention more cites in the Catholicism and Musical Settings sections. Yoninah (talk) 23:23, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Going forward

Gerda, these are the psalms you've asked me to do: Psalm 31, Psalm 40, Psalm 103, Psalm 113, Psalm 118, Psalm 122. Should any of these be given more priority? Yoninah (talk) 17:07, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

No particular order, you can choose. 113 and 122 by August, that's all ;) - I picked 103 for a friend's birthday, but no rush to complete. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:15, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm wondering whether the skylight in EWI's Kaleidoscope house was really 100 ft high, or maybe just 100 ft long. The Denver Post article you reference just refers to it as "a 100-foot skylight" and I couldn't find any other references or images. What do you think about changing this to reflect the ambiguity of the source, or do you have another reason to think that this was actually about 10 stories tall? Rupert Clayton (talk) 01:41, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
@Rupert Clayton: you're right, it doesn't make sense that it was so tall. I'm going to change it in the article. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:37, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

DYK query

Hi. I would request you to have a look at this discussion - Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Anju Bala - in the talk page of DYK, in which you have been pinged. Thanks. RRD (talk) 03:28, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, this is supposed to be promoted as a special occasion for March 14, which would mean Prep 4, probably, rather than Prep 3. The thing is, Prep 4 is nearly full, and it already has a person picture in it (and perhaps a little soon, since Queue 2 also has a person, which could further complicate using it in the lead slot). However, I don't think there would be an issue with delaying the current Prep 4 lead hook by three or four preps.

At any rate, I was thinking that you'd probably want to promote this hook into an appropriate spot before 3 and 4 are filled and copied into queue. I'll leave this to you to take care of. Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 04:57, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

DYK Supplementary Guidelines

Hi. I work hard to follow rules. However this has meant I find DYK an exasperating process as it seems there are unwritten rules that I am unable to follow and which inevitably cause issues with my nominations. This means that I end up skipping DYK for new articles I write, and in fact have more GAs than DYKs which just seems silly. Where can I read what the full guidelines are so that I can nominate at DYK in full compliance? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 00:26, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

@Barkeep: there are five main DYK criteria. You should also do a read-through of the supplementary rules to get an overall idea of what's required. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them. Best, Yoninah (talk) 01:12, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah Thanks for taking the time to respond. Yeah I read both those things before applying for the Florida Shuffle and you dinged me for it being an orphan tag. Which on the one hand fair enough - I do tend to go through and try and find instances to link when I write about a book, which is the majority of my new articles - but on the otherhand is not mentioned anywhere in the rules or supplementary rules. This on it's own is nothing - like I said fair enough. But it seems that each time I go through new issues are found, whether it's a new article or GA origin without basis in anything except the broad "we have discretion" lines. I appreciate the work that you do at DYK - I know that not too many sysops operate in the area for apparent reasons. I was just hoping it could be a process for me like GA is where I work to actively review and create. The fact that there are so many hidden steps that I clearly don't get just means I guess it won't be. That too is fair enough. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 01:55, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep: true, it doesn't say anything about orphan tags in the rules. But there's so much nitpicking by so many editors at DYK that I try to cover all the bases I can. I can just see someone complaining at ERRORS that an article in the queue has an orphan tag, and pulling it.
Here is my checklist before I promote an article, which corresponds to the things a page creator should check: 1) Newness/expansion within 7 days, 2) length over 1500 char (and doesn't look like less than start-class), 3) neutrally written, 4) adequately referenced (unless it's some obscure subject, in which case we accept one or two refs), 5) no close paraphrasing, 6) hook cited, 7) at least one citation per paragraph, 8) I check "What Links Here" to make sure it's linked in at least one other article, 9) I check the talk page to see it has some ratings, and isn't a stub, 10) QPQ done, 11) a hooky hook. (Many times I'll do extra editing or sourcing or linking not to bother the nominator, but in the case of Florida shuffle, I couldn't figure out what to link it to.)
As I said, you'll always find someone nitpicking. But if you cover the above bases, I think you can handle making a few extra tweaks to the article or hook to make it pass. In my experience, a GA review is a far more grueling experience! Best, Yoninah (talk) 02:11, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah Thanks for the tips - it helps. I will just say that the GA experience might be more work but has been far more pleasant than what I've had at DYK. I will keep your tips in mind should I go to DYK again. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 15:49, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

(Please excuse this post if it is a duplicate!)

I hope I haven't messed things up...

Yoninah, there was something screwy with Prep 3, so I tidied it up, and after doing that, I copied the partial set that had been in Prep 3 to Prep 1 so it wouldn't get lost. Also, this gives you some place to move whichever hook gets displaced when you add a new hook to Prep 3, and, for that matter, the one from March 31 into Prep 6. I'll stay out of things going forward, unless you'd like me to assist. Hope all's well! BlueMoonset (talk) 00:30, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

Looks like my Approved page wasn't refreshing; the March 31 special occasion is already in Prep 6. I've now removed the March 31 section, since the hook was promoted... BlueMoonset (talk) 00:35, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
@BlueMoonset: thank you. Everything looks good. I need to wait for the nominator of the March 28 hook to get back to me before I can complete Prep 3, so I probably won't be able to finish Prep 3 until tomorrow, but we're not in a rush. Yoninah (talk) 00:36, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
That's great. We will want to move the set you were building that I've temporarily put into Prep 1 into Prep 3 (for April 2) when it becomes free, to leave Preps 1 and 2 free to April Fools' Day hooks. (Which, I imagine, was your plan before the March 28 hook needed to be placed.) AFD hooks are typically so short that it isn't a problem building 9 or 10 to a set if necessary; at the moment, there are 16 approved, 1 on its way, 1 looking like it will ultimately run as a regular hook, and probably a few as yet undiscovered or unsubmitted. There is one special occasion hook for April 2, so it can go into that set you'd started building as well. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:48, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
@BlueMoonset: OK, thanks. I'll reserve a slot for the April 2 hook in the current Prep 1. I wonder if they have prepared a mock-up of the April Fools sets to make prep building easier? Yoninah (talk) 00:51, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

RFA

Hi Yoninah

Please forgive me if you've explained this before elsewhere, but have you ever considered running for adminship? If nothing else, you have a clear need for the tools as it would presumably make your work on DYK easier, and I'm sure you would sail through any RFA process. I'd be happy to nominate you, as I'm sure so would many others. Cheers, Fish+Karate 12:20, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

I've searched your talk page archives and spotted you were last asked about this almost a year ago - forgive me. Even so, I don't think it's essential that you have to get stuck into all the various things admins can do - they are things they can do, not must do, how much 'adminning' you actually do is up to you, you could do none at all other than those moves you currently ask others to do for you on WT:DYK. Fish+Karate 12:23, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi @Fish and karate: thanks for the vote of confidence. I wonder if you're asking because I've sounded a bit panicked in my requests for administrative action at WT:DYK? The fact is that everyone relies on everyone else to get the work done at DYK—the nominators rely on reviewers, the prep promoters rely on queue promoters, the readers rely on ERRORS to fix things, etc. Having administrator privileges would allow me to promote prep sets to queues, but take me out of the loop of promoting hooks to prep sets, and right now Cwmhiraeth is the only other regular prep builder. In general, I find I can do everything I want on Wikipedia just being one of the regulars. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:51, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

With regards to the James and Harding hook, I would just promote it and let Mobushgu supply the QPQs later (likewise, the nomination can be closed after the QPQs have been supplied). This obviously should have been done by now but apparently the reviewer overlooked it. Gatoclass (talk) 14:40, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

@Gatoclass: OK, done. Yoninah (talk) 14:52, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, thanks for putting the sets together. I really like your choice of alts, and that includes the alts of other people that you selected in preference to mine. Cheers, Gatoclass (talk) 16:19, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Bastard hook

On an unrelated issue, can I ask if we can run the Ebbo Bastard hook in the 1st set please? I ask as it is Australian focused and I feel it would get the best impact if it runs from 1pm AFD Aussie time rather than 1am where less are likely to see it. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 16:09, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

One of your hooks was selected for a lead and another got the quirky slot. Don't be greedy. Prep 1 already has enough bizarre hooks and I don't think it could tolerate another one, it's better in the second set IMO. Gatoclass (talk) 16:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Gatoclass well, I did some more shuffling and I think it works okay now. Yoninah (talk) 16:18, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Okay, but I shuffled again as I don't much care for that card hook and I think it's too off-putting that high in the set. Gatoclass (talk) 16:38, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
{u|Gatoclass}}, Should I just return the Australian hook to Prep 2 and the zombies hook back to here? It just doesn't seem to be working otherwise. Yoninah (talk) 16:43, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Re-ping @Gatoclass:. Yoninah (talk) 16:43, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
It looks fine to me now, what don't you like about it? To be honest, I didn't much like the zombies hook in the first set anyway, because there were too many hooks with the letter "z" in them. Gatoclass (talk) 16:48, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
(ec) @Gatoclass: I re-swapped the hooks. You were right: Prep 1 had too many bizarre hooks. Also, putting the zombies up high cues readers to the fact that it's an AFD set, per this comment at WP:ERRORS] by Iridescent. Yoninah (talk) 16:49, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I'm fine with that. Gatoclass (talk) 16:53, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Luxembourgish is a language

Today's hook reads "John W. Beschter, a Luxembourgish Jesuit". Luxembourgish cannot be used to describe people. It should read "John W. Beschter, a Luxembourg Jesuit".--Ipigott (talk) 06:40, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Yitzchak Dovid Grossman

I was trying to balance accuracy and fairness to the subject by correcting the outdated "alleged" qualifier while leaving the original wording as well so as to let the reader know that Berland was only an alleged abuser at the time that Grossman extended him help, but I see another IP has come along and simplified it for us, and I think the current wording is growing on me. 199.247.44.170 (talk) 05:55, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

@199.247.44.170: since Wikipedia is timeless, each article fact only relates to that point in time. That's why I removed the "foretelling" that he would be convicted. The other IP's contribution is fine; glad you're happy with it. Yoninah (talk) 10:28, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Palmer Street

Not sure it works without the picture (which is pretty good). If we don't use the picture, "that Palmer Street was the location of a secret British spy base that intercepted the communications of London's embassies?" or "that London's Palmer Street was the location of a secret "Dictionary" run by spies?" might be better, particularly the last which might work well at the bottom? Philafrenzy (talk) 19:37, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

@Philafrenzy: I didn't want to use the image because the sculpture has no page. Do you want to write a stub for it? Meanwhile, I'll return the hook to the noms page. Yoninah (talk) 19:41, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
The sculptor now has a page that discusses the work. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:45, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Philafrenzy yes, I saw the sculptor was linked. Personally, I think ALT1 and ALT2 are better hooks. Not sure why they were struck. I'll come back to this later. Yoninah (talk) 19:47, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, I think Gerda was just tidying having settled on the last. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:49, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Gadeer Mreeh, new article

Hi. I started Gadeer Mreeh as a stub as the election results began coming in. Then I realized that it would make an interesting DKY. If you are interested, I'll try to make time to build it out this week. If your're not intrigued, or are too busy this week, no worries. Best, E.M.Gregory (talk) 00:53, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

@E.M.Gregory: yes, I am a little busy now, making Pesach. But I was thinking of writing up the first female Haredi MK, Omer Yankelevich. Yoninah (talk) 17:27, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Let's collaborate next month. Create Yankekevich and expand Mreeh. Have a nice holiday.E.M.Gregory (talk) 17:33, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
@E.M.Gregory: OK. Is Gadeer Mreeh in your sandbox? Yoninah (talk) 17:36, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
No. I threw up a stub as I was reading the election returns. Then I though , oh, gosh, that woulda beena good DYK. It's a very short stub, and It may be possible to expand later by enough to qualify.E.M.Gregory (talk) 17:41, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
@E.M.Gregory: taking a break from Pesach cleaning, I expanded it and nominated it for DYK. Yoninah (talk) 18:14, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
Wow. Thank you. Chag kassher v'sameach.E.M.Gregory (talk) 18:29, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Prep sets

I have filled Prep 6 this morning but, because we are expecting a string of visitors and I will have little access to my PC, I will not be doing any more prep set building for five or six days. I like to work from the top of the approved nominations page, promoting the oldest nominations when possible, but many of these were reviewed by me, so I can't promote them. If you do some set building, can you please deal with as many of these as possible? There is a nice 5-legged elephant hook available for an image slot! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:18, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

@Cwmhiraeth: OK, I will try to do what I can. With Passover coming up at the end of this week, I will also have limited time going forward. Yes, I saw the 5-legged elephant! Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:34, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Hermann Herlitz

Thanks for promoting Template:Did you know nominations/Hermann Herlitz. However, it seems to have been dropped from the preparation area. WhatLinksHere shows nothing substantial. You removed it from P2 on 15:54, 21 April 2019 and from P5 on 15:55, 21 April 2019. What is the next step? Johnuniq (talk) 00:37, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

@Johnuniq: Oops. Thanks for the reminder. I was fiddling so much with the prep sets to reorganize them per an editor's request for Easter Monday that I forgot to relist it at WP:DYKNA. I've re-promoted it to Prep 3. Yoninah (talk) 01:04, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, I wasn't sure whether you'd seen that the nominator had recently responded to your concerns on promoting this nomination. (I took a look back when the you raised the question, and it appears from the sources that the age 49 retirement was from ice hockey and the age 51 retirement was from inline hockey.) Please return when you can. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:31, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

help?

Yesterday I did the nomination for Aletta Jacobs' DYK. I have quite a long lead in her appearance, as I want it to run on the 100th anniversary of Dutch women's suffrage in September. But, to do the nomination, I needed to choose a photo. I have been searching for a better image for a year and finally found one, but wasn't sure if I could use it. At any rate, now that we have confirmed that it is good, I have no idea how to add the new image to the nomination. Can you help? Thank you! SusunW (talk) 15:48, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

@SusunW:, it looks like you added it already. If you need help enlarging it so the frame won't show, perhaps ask David Levy. Yoninah (talk) 16:05, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
I added the photo to commons, but I have no idea how to add the additional image to the nomination. The one I see when I go to the nomination is the 1880 photo I put there originally with the caption "Jacobs circa 1880". The new photo caption should be "Jacobs, 1895-1905 by Max Büttinghausen". SusunW (talk) 16:15, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
@SusunW: does that help? Yoninah (talk) 16:16, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
I need the photo/new caption here: nomination SusunW (talk) 16:25, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
@SusunW: Oh. Now I understand. How's this? Yoninah (talk) 16:32, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
Exactly! Thank you so much :) SusunW (talk) 16:39, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
@SusunW: you're welcome. The first hook is really good. Yoninah (talk) 16:42, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. You know I struggle with hooks. ;) SusunW (talk) 16:47, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
The hook looks good, may review when less tired. The problem I see is that will may have to ignore the rule to not hold for longer than 6 weeks, but we do so for the space jubilee. - Yoninah, Psalm 147? Probably no DYK, just expand. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:57, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Croydon Aerodrome robbery

Seems a pity not to use the picture. It has good contrast and shows well in thumb. I think it will attract a lot of attention. Can it be held over for an available slot? Philafrenzy (talk) 22:07, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

@Philafrenzy: it is a good picture, but like you said in the nomination, it was taken a year later and therefore has nothing to do with the subject other than showing gold being unloaded. I did think about it before deciding not to run the image. Yoninah (talk) 23:44, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Gadeer Mreeh

On 5 May 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gadeer Mreeh, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that newly-elected parliamentarian Gadeer Mreeh will be the first Druze woman to serve as a member of the Israeli Knesset? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Gadeer Mreeh), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Yoninah, I was wondering whether you'd be able to return to this to review the new ALT5. If not, then perhaps call for a new reviewer? Thanks for whatever you can do. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:22, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Psalm 70

On 6 May 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Psalm 70, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Hollow trees

So what do you understand "the hollow of a tree" to mean? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:56, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

@Cwmhiraeth: a space inside a living tree. A "hollow tree" would be one that is completely carved out on the inside, meaning it would be dead or petrified. Yoninah (talk) 11:54, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
I see we have an article Tree hollow. I am used to calling such a tree a "hollow tree", but perhaps that is just British usage. (I was annoyed at first that you had posted about this at Errors, but really it is no big deal.) Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:41, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: OK, thanks for understanding. Yoninah (talk) 13:13, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Another DYK expedition request

I would like Ted Sampley to run on May 12 as it is the 10th anniversary of Sampley's death. The nomination is here. Daniel Case (talk) 05:30, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

@Daniel Case: great job on this expansion! I reserved a slot for it in Prep 1 for May 12. Yoninah (talk) 20:45, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Misinformation about you

DYK for Zechariah Baumel

DYK hook help for Luxembourgian lady

I just finished writing Monique Scheier-Schneider. I'm having brain block thinking of hooks. What stands out for you? Flibirigit (talk) 02:02, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

... that Monique Scheier-Schneider, general secretary of the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation since 1992, has managed her country's men's under-18, men's junior, and men's national ice hockey teams? Yoninah (talk) 10:16, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

DYK question

Hi, Yoninah. I saw that you moved a DYK nomination of mine to the special occasion holding area for July 7 here. In the nomination, I had asked for June 7, not July 7, to coincide with the start of this year's tournament, and your edit summary implies that you meant to place it under the June date. Was there a reason you ultimately chose to put it in July? Giants2008 (Talk) 15:13, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

@Giants2008: it was total brain fog. Sorry about that. I moved it to June 7. Yoninah (talk) 18:09, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for moving the article to June. I hate when brain fog comes along. Occupational hazard for us Wikipedians. Giants2008 (Talk) 21:45, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

Staatsoper

Nobody is going to know what a Staatsoper is, you said. Do they have to? It's adding a little German flavour to just "opera". What do you think a State Opera is? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:32, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Gerda: A state-sponsored opera. We have them in the U.S.: The New Orleans Opera, the Ohio Light Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, etc. This is the English Wikipedia; if people want German they can go to the German Wikipedia. Yoninah (talk) 10:14, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Good answer. (I wonder how many people think it's a National Opera.) The state in the Berlin case is the city of Berlin, and during the GDR times that was East Berlin. The state for the Hamburg State Opera is the city of Hamburg, one of the German States (Länder), and for the Staatsoper Nürnberg, it's Bavaria. Some Länder have moe than one that they support, - Hesse has at least three, Darmstadt, Kassel and Wiesbaden. Perhaps we should have an article explaining, not just an awfully incomplete dab page State Opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:27, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Great idea! Please write it, and I could help if English-language sources are available. Yoninah (talk) 13:56, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

sets

Yoninah, sorry, I hadn't realized we had a requirement to include half bios and alternate them within sets! Or that we had a rotation for bio images -- is is that every other set gets a bio image? And of course I'm happy to do a full set! Issue there is that I clearly have some things to learn about the images portion of promotion.

How about I switch Calma glaucoides with Lloyd M. Trefethen? That would maintain the intraset alternation for set 3 and give it only one nature hook, and it would allow for a bio image in set 4? Then I can start to fill set 4?

Again thank you for your patience. I've been seeing for many months that there's extra help needed here, but knew there'd be a learning curve, and I hate it that my learning curve causes other editors extra work. It's always what makes me wonder whether I should try to help or not! :) I will get there, and if this is a bad time for you to be dealing with my learning curve, I can hold off and start figuring this out at another time. Zero offense taken if it's the wrong time! --valereee (talk) 15:21, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

@Valereee: Your idea to switch the quirky hooks is good. The truth is we try to alternate image hooks much more—like a rotation of person, nature, building, artwork, graphic, etc.—but we have a lot of person images on the Approved page now so we're running them more often. And yes, the hooks should alternate bio/non-bio, and there also shouldn't be more than 4 U.S.-based hooks in a set. Also try not to run too many women hooks in a set. And I also watch the language of the hooks—avoid too many "firsts" in the hooks. I'm fine with your learning curve. Until now only Cwmhiraeth and I have been regularly building sets, so it's good to have more help. Best, Yoninah (talk) 16:32, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: I agree with most of what Yoninah says, but my attitude to choosing image hooks might be different. Some hooks need their images to work at all, and they get priority. Others images are peripheral to the hook subject or would not look good at thumbnail size, and I avoid using images of unknown people of only local interest. It's always useful to have extra people building sets, especially as Yoninah and I cannot promote anything we have ourself created or reviewed. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:13, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Cwmhiraeth I'm finding that I come across what seems a good choice, but it's got a photo that doesn't seem particularly compelling. So you're saying in the case a choice is good and the photo doesn't really add much or isn't good at that size, use the hook anyway? --valereee (talk) 19:17, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: the image proposals are just that, suggestions. If you don't think the image works, or it isn't visible at thumbnail size, just use the hook. Nominators know that with 8 hooks per set, not everyone's image hook suggestion will run. Yoninah (talk) 19:20, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
I was going to choose SOLRAD 2 (April 28) for the third-from-bottom on prep 4, but it's a newish editor and a newish reviewer. Would one of you want to take a look and make sure I'm not missing something obvious? --valereee (talk) 19:22, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: I'm busy building a different prep set. It's going to take some time to look this one over, so I'd rather pass on it for now. Did you notice that there's a special occasion request for June 4, which coincides with Prep 4? I put a hidden note on the template to reserve the slot for this nomination, which has an excellent image that many readers will recognize. Yoninah (talk) 19:26, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
No worries, there's no huge rush. I'll work on other hooks for the set. I do see the Pelosi note, will try to work on figuring out what I need to do to template the image. --valereee (talk) 19:36, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: all you have to do is copy the image section into the prep set. You don't have to worry about page-protecting the image; that's done by administrators after moving the set to the queue. Yoninah (talk) 19:39, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Oh, good, got it...I was like, "Where's the description page?" lol --valereee (talk) 19:48, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

DYK nomination five precepts

Hello Yoninah, I am pretty sure that this modification of the ALT2 hook of this nomination is not supported by the sources cited. Please advise me as to the venue where this should be discussed, preferably before the DYK item appears on the front page.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 12:05, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Perhaps this is already settled.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 12:17, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

prep 1

God this almost killed me. The two final hooks needed to be neither short, Chinese, British, female, musical, science, similar to a hook in a recent set (like the burials hooks, one of which will have appeared just two days earlier), had an image that would be a shame to not include, nom'd by someone who already had a hook in the prep, and didn't have some remaining question that is being dealt with. Would you be able to take a look? --valereee (talk) 15:11, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

@Valereee: I'm laughing. But you did a great job! The only thing I might do is swap out the second hook that mentions China. With three filled queues and three filled hooks, you can take a break for a few days! Best, Yoninah (talk) 17:28, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I was wondering about at min, unlinking China. I'll make another sweep through to see if I find anything long enough (as it is, the set is just barely long enough, so we probably don't want anything shorter.) If you see something that fits better in the meantime, by all means! --valereee (talk) 17:53, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
Hold everything...there's a special occasion that prep 1 will be used for, if I'm not mistaken. It's Megumi Nakajima, shall I just switch her with Madame Woo?
@Valereee: you can add the special occasion hook to this set, but without an image, since it's nominated for deletion and the alternate image is boring. Maybe put it in Irving Gray's slot. Yoninah (talk) 18:37, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: never mind, I moved out what would be the third Asian hook, so you have room for the special occasion hook. Yoninah (talk) 18:41, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
Is DYK approved noms > prep the worst job on WP? Asking for a friend. --valereee (talk) 01:24, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: the answer in one word: time. It's not the worst job, but it's the most time-consuming. In my experience, it takes an hour (or more) to build a prep set. The main problem is that reviews are often inadequate. I find myself re-reviewing and interacting with nominators to fix basic problems and improve hook interest. I realize I'm doing an okay job because very few of my promoted hooks are called out or pulled, but when they are, there is also a sense of futility about it: why did I just blow an hour if things went wrong? (Fortunately, most editors do not call out the promoter, but the mistake.) Right now I'm in a grumbly mood about editors trying to OWN their articles and hooks, and am taking a break by going back to article creation. But I do enjoy the technical side of building prep sets! Yoninah (talk) 10:21, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Everything you just said. I'm in a period where I'm not creating a ton just now, which is why this was a good time for me to figure this out, so I don't mind the time. And I enjoy the puzzle aspect. The opportunity to make or let slip through a much-seen-and-commented-on error is a bit terrifying, though. :D --valereee (talk) 10:48, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Hey Yoninah, you seem to know what you're doing: can you add Redoshi to the relevant lists? If I read the graph correctly it had 16,374 page views when it was on the front page, but I might screw up the table, haha. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 05:29, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

@Drmies: done. Congratulations! Yoninah (talk) 09:23, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much! Drmies (talk) 13:04, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Did you know that 5k+ readers hit Psalm 130 yesterday? Linked from a German title? I conclude that the "interesting" factor of our Main page audience is unpredictable, and should perhaps play less of a role in nom discusions. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:16, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: that's great! I often see hundreds of pageviews pop up out of nowhere on pages; I wonder if it's because someone assigned reading for a class that day? If you feel "interesting" should play less of a part in hook construction, you'll need to call for a change in the DYK rules. As long as that caveat is there, we should aim for interesting-to-a-broad-audience hooks. Best, Yoninah (talk) 10:25, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
I may have a language problem there. For me, "interesting" is only an opposite to boring and trivial, while most who oppose my hooks want "appealing" rather than what I think is interesting, = making curious to click. Remember Ruth Hesse? I proposed a hook mentoning her appearing as the Nurse. That was considered not interesting (why, - a nurse is not the regular character?), and after longish discussions we had a hook which said ... that a critic at The Musical Times described Ruth Hesse's performance as the Nurse in Die Frau ohne Schatten as "tirelessly ingenious"? I didn't object, but wasn't surprised that it received record low clicks in a while. I - as a reader - would already loose interest with all this critic from where, - and am I interested in one critic's view? - Keep simple: say which (interesting) role she performed in which (interesting) opera, and never mind readers who don't find role and opera interesting, - they probably will not profit from reading about the singer. My pov. No rule change needed, just understanding "interesting". - I just commented a nom where a hook mentioning a university wasn't considered interesting because people don't know that university. There's a link!! No need to already know. Instead, it was suggested to mention a famous relative. Poor subject when nothing more can be said than being in the same family as someone notable (who may not be known either). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:40, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
One more aspect to this: more readers clicked on the (presumably unknown) opera with the German title than on the singer. I conclude that there is interest in these operas. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:32, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Anyway: how about Psalm 150 next? Will sing a setting on Sunday. - Useful? Another? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

I'll add to it now, and ping you when mostly done, to avoid edit conflicts. It's linked from a DYK nom, so will hopefully go to the Main page even without 5* expansion. It's also one of the well-known psalms. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:30, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Done with the lead. I will add more, but probably mostly in the musical settings section. Needs a hymn or two now that I mentioned it in the lead ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:35, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: I'm going to be offline a few days for Shabbat and (Shavuot. I'll try to work on it next week. Yoninah (talk) 12:43, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
That's fine, enjoy. As we don't need to think of DYK timing, no rush, and the Hebrew text is in place. - We'll sing Franck's setting for Pentecost (Sunday, holiday continued Monday), and also the Saturday afterwards in concert. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:56, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: OK, I did my expansion. I'm not sure that it should be classified as a hymn psalm—do you have a source for that? Psalms 146–150 are psalms of praise. Please note bald URL for footnote 17 and no cite under the Christianity section. You could get this to a 5x expansion with another 80 characters or so. If you decide to nominate this for DYK, you can use this QPQ: Template:Did you know nominations/Ruth Hesse. Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:46, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Thank you! I thought of bringing it to GA some day, but 5-times-expansion is certainly easier ;) - Please explain hymn psalm, - for me, the typical hymn is a song of praise, but there's obviosly more to it. - This is a psalm where you could do the nomination, - I already mentioned my thing, with Franck's composition that we sang yesterday and will hopefully repeat on Saturday as part of Stadtklänge (sounds of the city, Wiesbaden in that case). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:33, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: OK, I'm finished with my expansion. Unless we can convince someone that the bulleted text doesn't count in the word count of the page before expansion, this is not a 5x expansion.
I would appreciate your adding a cite for the part about it being called "the musician's psalm", or delete that from the lead.
Please also add some kind of cite for the Christianity section.
Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 20:09, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
My DYK check says 5* per 7 July. I'm travelling (sat in the plane for two hours before departure because of thunderstorm and airport closed at the destination. Tired). I added the cite already (in the body), and another one to be used more. Please nominate, and I'll fix the music section by the time it appears. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:43, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: do you want me to add it to your Franck nomination for a double hook, or make its own hook? Yoninah (talk) 22:34, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
I'd prefer something new, - don't believe in double hooks. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:36, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: OK, thanks. Yoninah (talk) 22:37, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

I could happily add Geszty to the stats, in otherwise less than happy times. - How about fighting the mood by expanding Psalm 19? I remember I said 8, but missed the occasion by weeks now, and 19 is for tomorrow, in Bach's book. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:03, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Gerda, sorry, but I'm swamped with regular work and don't have time right now to do a full clean-up of Psalm 19, even though it desperately needs it! Yoninah (talk) 21:16, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
Same for me, - I got to Psalm 19 only now, a day later than I wanted, and only minimal, in the external links, - will do a bit to the lead now. Thanks for the Hebrew! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:36, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

DYK Eduardo A. Roca

Hi Yoninah! Thanks for your immense help, I've added citation where needed and you are free to remove the third point of "Bibliography" since that "book" or "bulletin" has no ISBN.

ALT4: Did you know that during the Falklands War, then Argentine Permanent Representative to the UN expressed concerns of "internal subversive activity" regarding the conflict?

Check it please. Thanks again for your patience and kindness. --LLcentury (talk) 22:43, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@LLcentury: I'm moving your comments to the DYK nomination page, so the discussion will stay in the same place. I'll try to answer you tomorrow. Yoninah (talk) 23:31, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Yoninah!, could you please check the DYK entry when you are available? Many thanks. --LLcentury (talk) 11:08, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mandy Moore (choreographer), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vanity Fair (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

move back to approved for questions?

I want to move Molniya orbit back to approved noms, it doesn't have a citation for every paragraph. (I'm not sure it's a huge problem, and for many articles I'd fix it myself, but I know zero about this topic.) Do I just do the opposite of what I did to move it into the prep? --valereee (talk) 13:56, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

@Valereee: I don't see what you're referring to. All the paragraphs are cited. Yoninah (talk) 14:26, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: are you talking about the second paragraph under "Molniya constellations"? That seems to be routine information about the Earth and a directive to the image. You could drop a note on the page creator's talk page to add some kind of cite before it appears on the main page, but frankly, I don't think it needs it. Yoninah (talk) 14:28, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
Yes, that's the one. I put a note on the nom's talk, thanks! Just trying to anticipate objections lol --valereee (talk) 14:40, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Silver Wedding (novel)

On 6 June 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Silver Wedding (novel), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Irish novelist Maeve Binchy was inspired to write Silver Wedding after hearing a girl on a bus talk about her parents' horrible marriage? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Silver Wedding (novel). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Silver Wedding (novel)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

prep 6

Template:Did you know/Preparation area 6 set has two hooks with credits to Philafrenzy, I think you'd recommended moving one to a later set when that happened, is that correct? Both noms are credited to two editors, I wasn't sure if that would make any difference. --valereee (talk) 11:16, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

@Valereee: yes, please move one of the hooks to a different set. Yoninah (talk) 11:36, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Has there been a discussion about this? Philafrenzy (talk) 09:41, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
@Philafrenzy: not sure what you're asking. It's standard procedure to have only one hook by an editor in a queue, except for major special occasions like April Fools Day, major sporting events, or the upcoming Moon landing. Yoninah (talk) 18:21, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Air lock diving-bell plant

Thanks for your help with this DYK. I notice it eventually got issued as that the Air Lock Diving-Bell Plant (pictured), made in Wivenhoe, worked in the Gibraltar harbour for more than 60 years?" which seems to me very wet, and must have killed off a fair percentage of views. Broichmore (talk) 08:55, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

@Broichmore: Ouch. I'm not sure when that happened, but in future, keep your eye on your hook as it moves through the queues and onto the main page and post at WT:DYK or WP:ERRORS if you think it has been changed for the worse. Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:26, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
A gracious answer, and I will, though not at all sure its possible to do. Actually I noticed at first that it got 710 hits, which is obviously disappointing. Turned out that it already had 22,789 hits, a disconnect on the scoring reportage was caused by an Editor changing the title late in the day from Air Lock Diving-Bell Plant to Air lock diving-bell plant, a pointless and unnecessary change by someone who should know better. So it wasn't quite as bleak as I thought. Broichmore (talk) 19:25, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
It happened as it was moved from prep to queue. --valereee (talk) 20:02, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
@Broichmore: that's great! Where did you find the pageviews for the old title? If you could give me a link, I'll add the hook to WP:DYKSTATS. Yoninah (talk) 20:06, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
This is the link for the stat for the article. I've reported it as a bug, though arguably it may not be one as such. It turns out that the score does not move with a title change, or at least it didn't in this case, when the change was made late in the day of the DYK. Broichmore (talk) 20:24, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
@Broichmore: that's quite a lot of hits for an un-hooky hook! Yoninah (talk) 20:39, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
I agree, some things surpass all understanding. :) Broichmore (talk) 20:52, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Wow!

The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
You've done a lot of heavy lifting today taking us back to 8 hooks! valereee (talk) 21:38, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, Valereee. I've never gotten one of these before! Yoninah (talk) 22:20, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
You're welcome! I've been just staying out of your way through that, so give me a heads up when you're satisfied with it. I almost lost a hook yesterday because I deleted what I thought was a left-behind hook that had been moved, then thank goodness realized I'd removed it mid-someone-else's editing, so I'm loathe to fiddle while you're still actively fixing things. --valereee (talk) 14:29, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
@Valereee: OK, we're back to 8 hooks and I re-set the template to generate 8-hook sets. Thanks for your patience, Yoninah (talk) 21:09, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

Would you have any objection to putting this into an image slot? The nom, who promoted it to GA, tracked the family down for that photo and really would like to see it used. --valereee (talk) 10:55, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

Whoops, nm! --valereee (talk) 11:05, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

Don't ping me

Please do not ping me, especially when you do it in a location that you are 100% fully aware that I cannot respond. In fact, I'd prefer you not to comment on me at all as it's hardly reasonable to go around commenting on me when I can't even explain. Fix the failed process rather than commenting on those of us who are attempting against all hope to remedy it. And that starts by not mentioning me again, anywhere. La Scala

Why not say it's in Milan. I'm told so often that our readers don't know things. La Scala (The ladder) is the most important opera house in the Italian-speaking world, - so may the most important, period. "Milan" may help their memory, no? - Next psalm 8, btw, should have done it before the holidays ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:43, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: because there were too many prepositions in a row:
  • ... that Peter Hirsch conducted the premiere of the revised and complete version of Luigi Nono's Prometeo at La Scala in Milan in 1985?
--and because people are more likely to have heard of La Scala than to know it's in Milan. Yoninah (talk) 18:40, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

special occasion

I moved that June 28 spec occasion to prep 6, and the date is left behind, but when I went to remove it, I see that the nom template is still there. I wasn't sure what to do? --valereee (talk) 14:32, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

@Valereee: don't do anything. The name of the nomination stays there until an administrator clears the whole section by deleting the date. Yoninah (talk) 15:28, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Can't we use the original hook? Philafrenzy (talk) 19:22, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

@Philafrenzy: I felt it was neither encyclopedic nor accurate. You see I edited the article too. Yoninah (talk) 19:25, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Yes, the article needed that change, but the hook certainly was encyclopaedic and accurate and I have a medical opinion to back it up. Working out how to avoid toxic doses of penicillin in people with kidney failure was exactly what they did. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:34, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
OK. Yoninah (talk) 19:35, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi...I am looking at the original paper which shows a number of calculations formulated to produce the exact table used in this source. They apply a formula to various degrees of kidney failure and then produce a guideline. The secondary sources support "worked out how to avoid toxic doses of penicillin in people with kidney failure" because it is the table used rather than the formulas they calculated. Safer to keep the original hook as in in the following citation...We asked how one might give penicillin to a patient with renal failure....With a nephrologist, Bill Stone, I worked it out.[2]. Whispyhistory (talk) 20:53, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
@Whispyhistory: thanks for the verification. I already reinstated the original hook in prep. Yoninah (talk) 20:59, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks @Yoninah:...I have been reading the original paper in detail and you are not incorrrect...so leave the article as it is. Thank you...both hooks would have been fine...thnak you for re-instating original. Whispyhistory (talk) 22:45, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
