Women's History Month is in March
Hi everyone at WikiProject Buffyverse!
Women's history month is around the corner, in March, and we're planning the second WikiWomen's History Month.
This event, which is organized by volunteers from the WikiWomen's Collaborative, supports improving coverage about women's history during the month of March. Events take place both offline and online. We are encouraging WikiProjects to focus on women's history related to their subject for the month of March. Some ideas include:
- Improving coverage about women characters, and the women who play them, in the Buffyverse
- Improving coverage about women who have served as writers, directors, producers or executives in relation to Buffy
- Articles about the effect of Buffy on women, feminism, and so forth
We hope you'll participate! You can list your your project focus here, and also help improve our to-do list. Thank you for all you do for Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 20:32, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Where do Angel & Faith characters go?
The List of minor Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters article is quite effective, and clearly covers the series, the film, and Season Eight and Season Nine comic books. The List of minor Angel characters clearly covers the TV series and the IDW comic books, their spin-offs (inc. Spike and Illyria), as well as (hypothetically) the original Angel comic books published by Dark Horse. But, what about the Dark Horse series Angel & Faith? Creatively it is distinct from Angel, its logo is not that of the Angel series, and has a different cast (Angel characters do guest-appear in one arc). And there is this, which seems to indicate it is a Buffy book, but also to challenge that distinction:
Scott: The reason all these books will be part of Season 9 is that Season 8 massively changed the world for these characters, particularly Angel. The comics we launch next year will be referred to under the banner Season 9, in that they follow Season 8. If there is a Willow title, it will be part of Season 9, even though Willow has never had a single season of her own, much less eight of them. We are blurring the lines between the titles, because we see the characters all as existing in one world. Fortunately it's a big world.
Would it be appropriate to list (the more significant) minor characters from this series, such as Giles' aunts and maybe Faith's father, under a List of minor Angel characters? Would they, as I assume the Dark Horse Willow and Spike series characters might, fit under List of minor Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters, as it is really all part of Season Nine? Another alternative would be to create a List of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight characters and List of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine characters, and a small "Characters" section on each main article? Or, the idea I'm least in favour of because it seems unduly "fannish" and to get away from the real world (medium-centric) approach of a proper encyclopedia, would be to create a merged "List of characters in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise" article which glosses the main characters in Buffy and Angel alongside various minor characters like Whistler, Simone, Betta George, Urkonn (from Fray) and Saga Vasuki. The travesty that is List of Doctor Who universe creatures and aliens should discourage this option; in many sections it is potentially unclear to a non-fan whether characters were introduced in Doctor Who or one of its spin-offs, and it seems to make the mistake of equating the notability of 60-year-old classic monsters with one-time Torchwood monsters.
Sorry if that was rambling, but in summary:
- Creators say Angel & Faith is not a follow-on from Angel, and it has a different premise. It is a distinct spin-off to Buffy with ties to the Angel world. Its significant original characters are drawn from unproduced Buffy spin-offs like Ripper, Faith and Slayer School. Is it an "Angel" series? Is it still right to honour that distinction?
- Spike comic books used to clearly fit under the heading of Angel books as they were associated with the Angel Seaosn Five rights, produced by IDW and fit with that continuity. Now it is published by Dark Horse, would some Spike characters count as Angel characters and others as Buffy characters by our purposes?
- Consider one of the two propositions. The first is to separate the TV and comic book content of the main list articles, so that they are essentially per-medium or per-long work (Buffy the TV series, individual comics). This is very real world but it has disadvantages in that it fragments information and leads to duplication due to crossovers and fluidity of storylines.
- The second is to amalgamate all content into one article, which has both advantages and potential disadvantages.
Thoughts? Zythe (talk) 16:06, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't have a huge amount of heartburn over things like this, but I wonder if the solution isn't just to make an overarching category like "buffyverse characters" which would be a superset of all of the above, and if we can agree that different characters can be represented in multiple franchises simultaneously, we should be fine. That is, we have everyone in one category, but keep the individual character list articles separate for space reasons. Jclemens (talk) 22:18, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know if a "franchise" list would be encyclopedic or helpful to the end-user, as it (in the context of the TV series) would make it less about the show's depictions of those characters and more about the integrity of their fictional worlds. I don't know if some sort of characters page for the comics (as their own medium/ongoing series) would be better.Zythe (talk) 10:13, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Anyone else got input on this? I would quite like it if there was content on Coames, the Fairweathers, Morgan, Faith's dad, Pearl, Nash and Nadira - but where would it go?Zythe (talk) 11:18, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
