Multi-TFA
[edit]@Coffeeandcrumbs: Would you be able to ascertain consensus for running Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins all at the same time for 24 hours? I think we can get them all to FA in time, if I can keep my cadence going. Some people said to get them to FA and then we'd talk; I would like to know if I need to DYK any of them, which is what I would do if we cannot run them concurrently. Let me know if you do not have time for this. Thanks! Kees08 (Talk) 06:39, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Just noting this idea was abandoned although all these page became FA early during this project. We stuck with just Neil Armstrong as TFA. We managed to get Michael Collins approved for DYK, hopefully with a photo. I hope to have Buzz Aldrin at OTD so all three have a photo on the Main Page at the same time. TFP is planned to have several photos, starting in July 16. File:Aldrin Apollo 11 original.jpg is scheduled on July 21 with Apollo 11 as the focus. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 13:45, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- Is there a case for nominating Apollo 11 for a different day for TFA, given that the mission covered several days? Or would that be too close in terms of TFA diversity? Carcharoth (talk) 15:33, 7 June 2019 (UTC) Raised this here. Carcharoth (talk) 15:44, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- Apollo 11 can still be posted next year. However, all the FAs (Apollo 11, Armstrong, Collins, and Aldrin) are going to be represented on the Main Page this year. See this demo page. Aldrin should appear at OTD, so you have to use your imagination for him. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 15:55, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- Apollo 11 is the feature picture. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 15:59, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Carcharoth: We also have several photos featured from July 16 to July 24. See WP:S2019POTD. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 16:35, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- Sure, that is all excellent. I am only making a suggestion. If it is acceptable to those deciding the requests at TFAR, then it gives you more options. But if the primary authors of the Apollo 11 article want to hold it back for a later date, that will be what will be done regardless of what I am suggesting. Carcharoth (talk) 16:38, 7 June 2019 (UTC) What I am probably missing here is where the discussion took place referred to above: "Some people said to get them to FA and then we'd talk" and "this idea was abandoned [...] We stuck with just Neil Armstrong as TFA.". - I assumed there would be resistance to several TFAs in a row. I don't exactly remember why or when. I made a decision to trim the scope of this project to a level that was guaranteed to be accepted. Kees08 let it happen. There is really only two people that participated heavily to the decision making on this project. Maybe a series of TFAs could have worked but I did not want to risk it. I wanted to work within the existing rules as much as possible and only asked for IARs for DYKs. I needed to know what was going to be permitted before we actually started working on articles. We had limited time and we needed to focus. So I did not want to waste time on an idea and later find out it would not be supported.

- I also wanted all three astronauts photos to appear on July 21. I assumed that people would be resistant, for example, to Collins appearing as TFA on July 19 and again as the DYK pictured blurb on July 21.
- The WOW! factor at 00:00 UTC on July 21 when this appears was important to me. It was what drove me and kept me motivated for the last 11 months. From the beginning, TFAs were secondary concern for me. We already had Neil Armstrong as an FA ready. I wanted to focus on getting a full set of DYKs and make sure they were diverse. I wanted to include women, people of color, and non-BIO pages. Also important was the inclusion of Russians. I did not want everything to be about Apollo and the USA. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 17:45, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- P.S. The idea of "get them to FA and then we'd talk" was not enough for me. Maybe I was wrong. The possibility that people would say no after months of work was too scary. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 17:57, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
