IPDB template

I'm not a member of this project and I don't really want to be (I don't really know much about pinball), but I have noticed that a lot of pinball articles link to the Internet Pinball Database. This being the case, have you considered creating a template for it? It'd give a consistent look to the extern links in your articles and would generally be easier to use. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. Sega Pinball

I added a short section in the main Sega article about their later pinball machines, I have next to no info on their 1970s stuff so I barely mentioned it. I also made a list of Sega pinball machines based off of stuff at the IPDB and system16.com. Pinside and Pinpedia links

To me, neither one of them seems to add much to the articles. Pinside articles are mostly auto-generated and Pinpedia seems to mostly wirror Wikipedia. Thoughts? - Richfife (talk) 17:43, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I've been linking to Pinpedia because the pages there contain at least one important bit of information that can't be found anywhere else: recent auction results. I suppose I could go either way on this if enough people thought it was sperfluous, but this is a very common question when it comes to machines, so I personally lean towards keeping it. How to keep this WikiProject active?

I'm at a loss, and am looking for ideas. I've been trying to keep this WikiProject active, but I admit that my own time has been extremely limited, so I'm not in the best position to be talking about how to get more time out of others.

Still, as popular as pinball we are having a hard time attracting editors to this project to create the necessary level of cooperation to keep this project going. I'm open to suggestions, and until such time as we get some good ones, I don't want to remove the "inactive" tag, as that seems disrespectful to Wikipedia's procedures. I question whether the VG project would be a good umbrella for this. Pinball is quite distinct from video games. But they've long been associated with them and several well-known manufacturers became video game publishers/developers. Even Atari had a pinball division for a number of years. I guess I'm on the fence, but would certainly not oppose if the members here wanted to become a VG task force. (Guyinblack25 ^talk 14:44, 13 March 2009 (UTC))

This was already objected to above, and WP:VG folks have honestly made quite a mess in the PB articles, by applying all sorts of inappropriate VG tags and categories and stubsortings and so on. I've posted a long and detailed message at WT:VG on how to clean up the debacle, but am not willing to do any further cleanup work on it myself, since neither PB nor VGs are even interests of mine. If this project gets taskforcified (which arguably it should) it would be to WP:GAMES, not WP:VG. However, it seems clear that the only people actually and actively interested in this project's articles are a few VG editors who focus on arcade games. So, those few people should come here, clean up the mess, and then merge this to WP:GAMES as a task force they will actually keep functional, even if the also work on the developmentally related but distinct topic area of arcade video games. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(^Õل^ō)ˀ Contribs. 07:48, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

To be perfectly honest, that is not a proper Wikipedia article at all, but a cross between a disambiguation page that doesn't actually link out to anything, and a bunch of merged but really entirely unrelated article stubs. Taskforce of WP:GAMES?

There was a suggestion to make this WikiProject a taskforce of WP:GAMES. I am not sure that this is a good idea, but I'm only approaching this for the first time now and am in the process of looking further into it, so I don't have a hard opinion right now. My initial instinct is that it might be better served as a child project (which now looking at it, it already is... can you tell it's been a while since I've worked on this?), but either way until we reach a consensus it seems appropriate to move this to the discussion page. Keeping this project active

I haven't removed the semi-active tag for some time because I haven't been able to guarantee that even I could keep up enough to justify its removal. I believe that I can now. However, I would like to request assistance to make this easier.

I will pledge to perform at least one edit a day, however, minor, just to make sure that this project stays active. I will keep to this pledge as best as I can, and will put notice up if I cannot. What I would like to request, is for others to pledge to take one day of the week to do the same, until we have 7 people each pledged to take one day of the week to make one Project-relevant edit.

Well, I guess I need to confess that I have not entirely been able to keep to my original pledge. But I've been trying, and much work has been done.

For those who have not seen, there is an Article for deletion discussion currently concluding for CSI (pinball). It looks like the consensus is going to wind up being a weak keep, but it's one that will come with a condition: we need to develop a set of pinball article criteria, primarily concerning two areas: notability and reliable sources. Truth is, though, this is a major project area I wanted to work on anyway, so this will just push us to finally get to it.

Once this AfD is done, I would like to get some assistance in coming up with these guidelines. We of course will need participants from this project, but we'll also need some from some other similar projects so that we can call on their experience. Collaboration of the Month for December 2011: Pachinko

The article Pachinko, a close relative of pinball, badly needs work, especially sourcing. Since it is based on the ja.wiki version of the article, and most of the sources will be in Japanese, it could obviously use some help from someone who knows the language. Basically, the article has a lot of information, but virtually none of it is sourced. It has some suspect "information" in it (I removed most of the blatant WP:NOR and WP:NOT#HOWTO violations), and it is also missing historical information prior to around 1920. About a certain machine

I was watching (Dutch) TV this morning and saw a pinball machine by Williams called (I believe) Student Prince. It's not listed on Wikipedia and I wanted to know if there's anybody out there who could tell me more. It was a machine from the 50s or 60s because it still had those little bells for sound effects and mechanical a score card. How old is this machine, how many were made..? Anybody? Allright! Thanx man! My personal problem with the TV show this morning was that it was a kids program where children are allowed to totally take apart a big electronic or mechanical device. This episode it was the pinball machine mentioned above!!! Such a waste... 3.502 units is pretty rare, especially when this thing is that old. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. Hi there. I'm not too familiar with pinball machines, but an editor recently created their first article, Bugs Bunny's Birthday Ball. It seems like a promising article, but only if enough sources can be found to attest to its notability. I've tried Google Books, Google Scholar, Google News, and the Internet Archive, and I just can't find anything. If it's not notable to warrant its own article, then so be it, but I wanted to check here to see what the experts think. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 05:11, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

You would have to source it the same way you would an old arcade game or maybe an old record album. You aren't going to find much about it from scholarly sources. You will have to dig up entries in trade publications and such. I found an announcement of the game in Cashbox for February 23rd, 1991, and added it to the article. User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
