Hi guys i am Moxy i generally edit History articles now ....but for years have made the music portals for the music projects....So lets get you a portal....So i see 3 FA articles i can use ...What colors would you guys like to see the portal made from?Moxy (talk) 20:38, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Moxy! It's nice of you to help set up the task force for us and attempting to create a Latin American music portal. Let me be honest when I say that I'm a terrible decision-maker and really don't know what to choose. Probably a color that best Latin America? I'm not an artist by nature. Magiciandude (talk) 22:00, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- As a Canadian i am just not familiar with the topic in general ..so perhaps play it safe and do somthing close to -->Portal:Latin America....as for content..i will put in the 3 FA articels have any other bios ,albums ,concerts etc..would you like to see in it. I was thinking of the style that i used here(with other colours) -->Portal:Music of Canada...Moxy (talk) 03:52, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me. I can see how the elements of both portals. would work together. Like the colors from Latin America and the content similar to Cananda. Magiciandude (talk) 04:04, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ok done typo in the name..but will get all moved soon...take a look Portal:Latin American music - pls add content all setup for easy use....ps SPAM

Miami Sound Machine
FYI, I noticed that Miami Sound Machine doesn't have an article. You might be interested in that fact, as it was a very successful Latin music group. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 08:13, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well the question is, is there enough info about the group that is independent from Gloria Estefan? For example, was the group already famous before Gloria Estefan was in the band or after she became an independent musician? Magiciandude (talk) 11:31, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- We have articles on Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, but Gwen became famous with the rise of No Doubt. The situation is analogous with Gloria Estefan, IMHO, since she became famous in the English-speaking world with Miami Sound Machine (as opposed to in the Spanish-speaking world) 76.66.200.95 (talk) 05:23, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well I'll give it try sometime. If you have useful information, that would be great. Magiciandude (talk) 16:51, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Status report for September 2010
Here's the current status of the task force:
- Jaespinoza has been working on Amar la Trama which looks promising to be a GA article.
- A new member, gariseiro, has joined the task force to which I invited. Welcome aboard!
- Moxy has done a terrific job of helping with the task force and created a portal for the task force! Thanks again Moxy!
- As for me, I'm working on Segundo Romance on my sandbox, which I'm collaborating with Jaespinoza to make the first possible Latin album to get FA. That is all for now. Magiciandude (talk) 00:51, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Current Status (November 2010)
Okay, so here's the scoop:
- Jaespinoza's collaboration with Another Believer has led to a FL list for Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist and Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz albums is currently a featured list candidate.
- My nomination for Latin Grammy Awards of 2010 was rejected to be featured in Today's News section on the Main Page because it was seen as "an insignificant award about a US TV show". Never mind the fact Latin music is MORE than just a genre. Moving on.
- Gariseiro has been working hard on Nelly Furtado's album, Mi Plan
- The new plan right now is to work on articles relating to Mexican pop band, Camila. Magiciandude (talk) 18:42, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- OK, cool...by the way, does Bésame (Camila song) hold any sort of special notability yet? Since has been more recently released and I see it is currently a redirect article for Dejarte de Amar. I've noticed there are no articles that cover the singles from their first album. So I will go on ahead and create the articles for them. Garry says OK (talk) 14:17, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Proposal for new infobox: POSTHUMOUS ALBUM
There has been some talk that this project should clearly see and be involved in - it has led to a proposal of sorts for a new category called "POSTHUMOUS" for the Template:Infobox album ... By the way Moxy, I've done some changes to the Latin music portal. Let me know what you think. Magiciandude (talk) 22:11, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- Very very nice ..i like the fact we link to ALL the music in the Billboard Latin charts.Moxy (talk) 23:58, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
It seems that the Latin American WikiProject is inactive seeing as how you got no reply. I think it'd still be great for this project page and be included here. Magiciandude (talk) 21:02, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Important announcement! Please read! (March 2011)
Hello! This is magiciandude having some important updated for all of you. First of all, some of you may have notice that I moved a lot of articles about album and songs with lower case letters on top. This was due to a former guideline about capitalization for foreign language-titles. This is no longer the case. I am continually moving back articles back to their original state. If I missed any, please move it back. Second, this is in regards to record charts. Previously, the only chart that may have been used for Spanish-language singles was the Latin Songs. Now, the "Tropical Songs" and "Regional Mexican Songs" chart may be used as well. Kww is in process of creating number-one singles categories for these charts. However, the "Latin Pop Songs" chart is an airplay component of the Latin Songs chart itself and therefore should not be used. The only exception to the above is if the song did not chart on the Latin Songs. Lastly, I am extensively working on Romances to have the first potential FA Spanish-language album in case anyone was wondering what I've been up to. Magiciandude (talk) 22:59, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Invitation to join the Grammy Awards task force
You are invited to join the Grammy Awards task force, a subproject of WikiProject Awards and prizes dedicated to improving articles and lists related to the Grammy Awards. If you are interested in joining, please visit the project page and add your name to the list of participants. |

Mexico and Venezuela singles chart (new charts)
This is an update now stating that you may use MonitorLatino for singles charting in Mexico and RecordReport in Venezuela. In addition, I've created number-one singles categories for these countires. Please note however, you MUST use a web archive site in order to source the records as the main sites do not have an archive. A web site like WebCite will archive the website for you, so use that if you're going to use add it to the charts in singles. DJ Magician Man (talk) 18:41, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Hits of the World
Hello everyone (or anyone checks this discussion), while researching for some albums, I came across albums that are not posted online. It turns out that Billboard magazines have a section called "Hits of the World" and they even obscure regions. As mentioned they post album charts that can't be found anywhere else anyone and the regions I found are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela. It should noted that except for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Venezuela, the charts are only posted from the 1960s to the 1970s. Billboard only posted Chile in the 1960s and the mid-1990s. Erick (talk) 00:04, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
FAR notification
I have nominated Héctor Lavoe for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 03:23, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Featured-article milestone
After a year of working on it, Romances has become a featured-article the first Spanish-language album to do so! Thanks to all of you for your support. Erick (talk) 20:18, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Proposed guidelines for task force
I have some ideas on what to put on the guidelines that are specific for the Latin music task force:
- Albums should have at least 50% content in Spanish or Portuguese (Brazil only).
- Songs covered in the project should be in Spanish or Portuguese (Brazil only), but may be in English or another language under the condition that a Spanish version was released as a single for the Hispanophone audience.
- An artist is covered under project if said artist is signed on to a Latin music record label or a subdivision of a record company that covers Latin music (e.g. Universal Music Latin Entertainment, Sony Music Latin).
Collaboration effort for Latin music
I am proposing a collaboration of all us to expand and promote Latin music to FA status. It is our top priority article and we all can choose a country section that we feel more comfortable expanding. We can start editing the article here once we have enough willing editors who will participate in this team effort to bring the Latin music article to FA status. We all don't need to have experience in the GA/FA field (we can help you through the basics), the more editors we have the better the article will be. We need every member of WP:Latin music to help since we all come from different Latin American countries. So what do you guys think? Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 21:55, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Try placing talkback on our active users talk pages and redirect them to this section. That should get some attention and lead to discussion. Plus the talk page should be used more often so that we can coordinate our plans together. Erick (talk) 22:26, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Done I've sent a message to every member who has been active in the last 2-3 weeks. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 22:55, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
I`m not as active as i once was but i`ll glad to help even if is only with the small things. Zidane tribal (talk) 23:31, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Even a small like doing music of Mexico would go enough. I think we should invite every WikiProject related to a Latin country to help out. Erick (talk) 23:36, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well you can still help out with copy-editing, and like Erick pointed out, you can just add one or several sentences to a section. @Erick, I like that idea are you going to post on their respective talk pages? Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 23:43, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes and Music WikiProject itself. We're going to need a lot of contributors for this kind of scope. EDIT: Check this out! There's a Wikipedia page for collaborations. It might have something useful for everyone to see and help out. Erick (talk) 23:44, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

First things first, I've requested an outline of Latin American music to be created. Erick (talk) 01:15, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- Suggestion: I think we should split the article into two: Latin American music only as a genre and the information regarding the meaning, history, a summary of the main subgenres and standout artists, and Latin music by country (suggested name, or we could use the already existing Music by country articles) on which we can discuss (or write) about each cuntry's internal development of latin music, and talk about the genres originated in such countries, such as Cuba's son and Venezuela's llanera, but only as a summary. I would also recommend to, as a second option, expand the articles for each country and create a category to handle them all, alogside the already existing template. Cheers! —Hahc21 04:37, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes I totally agree with Hahc21 and it makes perfect sense because Latin music is not limited to only countries of Latin America but also within in the United States and Europe. Erick (talk) 04:45, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- So who's in? and when should be begin? Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:41, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Converting into a WikiProject
Well this happened sooner than I thought would happen, lol. But anyways, I've been thinking about it long and hard and I think it the time to convert into a WikiProject is near. Just look at how much we've got covered. 37 Good articles and over 30 members and the active members are helping each other out. Plus the parent project Latin America is not active and hasn't done anything related to task force so we've never been dependent on them. I'm thinking of setting a goal of 50 GAs before I ask to convert the task force into a WikiProject. What do you say? Erick (talk) 04:20, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- What about FAs? We need to work on that area as well, we only have 2. Maybe set a goal of 5? We can all help each other with pre-FAC comments and c/e articles that are requested by fellow members that wants their article to be nominated at FAC. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:43, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe, I'm working on an article for FA myself (Mi Tierra). At the same time we have 22 Featured lists (that's more than any other WikiProject regional music btw). Erick (talk) 16:01, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yea but FLs are somewhat easy to get (same goes for GAs), all you need is a c/e from GOCE and bam you're in. However, FAs are the tricky ones, they are checked thoroughly and at the end it becomes the best of what Wikipedia has to offer. We shouldn't limit ourselves to GAs - that's what I'm saying. Yea FAs are a lot tougher, longer, and more work to do, but hey it pays off at the end of the day. We all can achieve an FA article, we just need the push. Right now your worrying about 50 GAs that could be made by next month, plus by next year we are going to run out of articles of our interest. FAs can help expand the time frame of the articles we spend most on and keep the project going. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 16:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's a valid argument. Fortunately, as I said, I'm already working on an article for Mi Tierra and have Fijacion Oral Vol. 1 in queue. I noticed you're working on getting some of Selena's articles FA too, so if we pull our resources together, we can get five FAs as you say. So 5 FAs it is. Erick (talk) 16:37, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Ok and btw sorry is this puts a tamper in your goal for a wikiproject :/ Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 16:41, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it! Think of it as making a good resumé. As you say, it pays off at the end of the day. :P

At this point, we should just be a WikiProject now and the reason is because the task force does not simply cover artists from Latin America alone. Instead, it should be called "WikiProject Latin music" and be on the scope of as a genre so that artists from Spain, Portugal, and Italy to a small extent can be included without problems. Artists like Alejandro Sanz are performers of Latin music but are not Latin America, so it shouldn't be included on WikiProject Latin America but it falls under Latin music perfectly. Erick (talk) 00:39, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support and do it now This task force is stronger thatn its parent WP, so actually there's no reason to still be under its belt. Also, as Erick said, Latin music is beyond Latin America, and therefore keeping this under this parent WP is not the most correct way to achieve the goal of inclusion proposed by it. Regards. —Hahc21 02:17, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Alrighty, I'm doing some preparations to prepare for the move. We need to ensure that the recognized content and article alerts are updated for the bots. We will also use our own category and banner. Erick (talk) 01:09, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject Latin music style guide
Do you guys think we should have our own Guideline page? I mean know we already follow the WP:MOSMUSIC, but I just wanted to hear your opinion on what we could put down. I think this might be useful for new users who aren't familiar with Wikipedia. Also, a page for resources might very useful as well. This would include sites for charts, certifications, and awards. Erick (talk) 20:29, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
Just a note that I've nominated "Missing My Baby" at FAC and would like my fellow members to provide a comment on its nomination. Best, Jonatalk to me 14:38, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
To-do list
Hey guys! I think it would be awesome if we made some kind of to-do list to inform other members of articles to work on and facilitate collaboration. Some articles that I want to improve to GA status in the future:
- Ricky Martin
- Reik
- Luis Fonsi
- Los Fabulosos Cadillacs (needs a lot of additional citations)
- Maná
- Víctor Manuelle
- Juanes (currently a former GA)
Feel free to add any articles that you want to improve to the list! Cheers, Basilisk4u (talk) 02:28, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- I can definitely help out Luis Fonsi as I'm a fan of him. In fact, I've had two of his songs ("No Me Doy Por Vencido" and "Aqui Estoy Yo") in my queue so if you like, maybe you could a collab on those? Some songs from Reik, Maná, and Juanes are fine with me as well. For Víctor Manuelle, I was thinking about doing his discography page but after I do Marc Anthony. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magiciandude (talk • contribs)
- I've been thinking that we should do something like a "Big Weekend @ Simple", where we all would edit, expand, and create Latin music-related articles at Simple English Wikipedia. I've been editing a lot over there and have created several Latin music-related articles and would be fun to work on another Wikipedia as a team and not alone =( We could work over there on a project together for one weekend hence "Big Weekend @ Simple". Best, Jonatalk to me 22:12, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject Latin music in Spanish
Just to let everyone know, I've just created WikiProject Latin music in the Spanish Wikipedia. In regards, Erick (talk) 03:43, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Happy Holidays everyone!
Happy Holidays everyone! I just wanted to say that it has been a fantastic year for the WikiProject Latin music. Thanks to all of your hard work, we have over 60 GAs, 26 FLs, and so many DYKS, I lose count. XD Not to mention a couple of firsts such as the first Latin album and song to be FA, Anyways, I want to give a special mention to each member:
- Jaespinoza: For being the inspiration for starting the WikiProject and for having so contributing so many FLs to the WikiProject.
- AJona1992: Not just for your great works related to Selena, but for being the first editor to make a Latin Song FA and bringing so many GAs!
- Hahc21: I knew you had potential the moment I saw your edits. A quick invitation and wow, did you improve articles relating to Ricardo Arjona, even the biographical article. Not only that, but you also managed to be the first editor to get a discography and the accolades articles to be FL! Great job!
- DivaKnockouts: In only a few months, you're already becoming a prominent editor. Some DYKs and I've noticed your editing skills have been getting progressively better. :)
- Basilisk4u: A great job to Alejandro Sanz's albums and two albums for Calle 13.
- Status: I know you're not a member of the WikiProject, but you deserve a special mention because some of Jennifer Lopez's articles overlap the WikiProject. It was especially great working with you on No Me Ames. :)
If I didn't mention your name, fret not, as all contributions to the WikiProject Latin music are always greatly appreciated. :) Let's see what next year brings. Happy Holidays everyone! Here's a paranda from Puerto Rico for everyone to enjoy Erick (talk) 07:20, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

Hello, |
WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 13
This month: A general update.
The current status of the project is as follows:
- Progress of the project has been generally delayed since September due to development issues (more bitrot than expected, some of the code just being genuinely confusing, etc) and personal injury (I suffered a concussion in October and was out of commission for almost two months as a result).
- I currently expect to be putting out a proper call for CollaborationKit pilots in January/February, with estimated deployment in February/March if things don't go horribly wrong (they will, though, don't worry). As a part of that, I will properly update the page and send out announcement and reach out to all projects already signed up as pilots for WikiProject X in general, at which point those (still) interested can volunteer specifically to test the CollaborationKit extension.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Pilots was originally created for the first WikiProject X prototype, and given this is where the project has since gone, it's only logical to continue to use it. While I haven't yet updated the page to properly reflect this:
- If you want to add your project to this page now, feel free. Just bear in mind that more information what to actually expect will be added later/included in the announcement, because by then I will have a much better idea myself.
- Until then, you can find me in my corner working on making the CollaborationKit code do what we want and not just what we told it, per the workboard.
Until next time,

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
