WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Bangladesh will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in within Bangladesh society, history and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 20:35, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

I have reduced the number of discussion pages (alias talk pages) for the project. Now this is simpler. Can anyone suggest further simplification. The original design was to serve a much more active project. It is not so vibrant anymore. Aditya(talk • contribs) 19:22, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Merger proposal (restored)
The following proposals appear to have been deleted in a clean-up (the referenced archive has disappeared) without having been addressed. If there is no interest in or intent to merge the projects then the merger template(s) should be removed. In any event the merger proposal(s) should be closed with a discussion resolution or some record of action. The discussion should remain here with updates until the actions are completed. Thanks,

The template "Bengal Renaissance" should be supported by WikiProject Bangladesh
Bengal Renaissance is a part of the history of Bangladesh. Many notable persons and points are missing in the template "Bengal Renaissance", most of which connected with Bangladesh. I think that's why the template should be supported by WikiProject Bangladesh and should be a part of it.--Kmzayeem (talk) 14:28, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Mount Elizabeth Hospital
Mount Elizabeth Hospital seems rather short article. Since several prominent people from outside of Singapore have died there (ie. Poet Chandravati and her Bangladeshi identity
Original discussion at User_talk:BengaliHindu#Chandravati
The Category:Bangladeshi poets is for those poets who was born or lived in the geographical area which is now known as Bangladesh, so its fair to use in that article. --Zayeem (talk) 09:55, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- May I know, where is the scope of Category:Bangladeshi poets defined? As per common knowledge, 'Bangladeshi' stands for nationality, for the people who are/were citizens of Bangladesh. BengaliHindu (talk) 15:16, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, the category is used in many articles about poets who died before 1971, Alaol, Hason Raja for instance, same as the Category:Indian poets is used in many articles about poets of pre-partition era.--Zayeem (talk) 16:42, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- If they died before 26 March 1971, they technically are not Bangladeshis. Please remove the category for Alaol, Hason Raja and others whom you know. BengaliHindu (talk) 18:12, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Categories are not facts, rather they are meant for providing easier access to the general readers/editors to find their desired article, hence the category is well placed in those articles. BTW I'm amazed to see that you are asking for removal of Category:Bangladeshi poets but not the Category:Indian poets! --Zayeem (talk) 18:19, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Categories are not facts, but you just can't put any damn category unless you can justify it. Can you prove the Bangladeshi credentials of Chandravati? If you want to discuss about Category:Indian poets, lets do it elsewhere, possibly here at Category_talk:Indian poets. But first prove that Chandravati was a Bangladeshi. BengaliHindu (talk) 18:27, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Already explained, justified and proven in the discussion here, BTW you can also discuss about the Category:Bangladeshi poets in its talk page, till then don't remove the category from the article. --Zayeem (talk) 18:35, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Just because the category has been used to categorize many poets who died before 1971, it does not explain, justify or prove that Chandravati, who died around circa. 1600, was of Bangladeshi nationality.BengaliHindu (talk) 18:42, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Definition of "purdanasin" or "pardanishan" ?
Greetings, I ran across these terms while referencing Nawab Faizunnessa Government Girls' High School. Bengali names
Hi, for the chess player Reefat Bin-Sattar, is "Reefat" a personal name and "Bin-Sattar" a family name, or vice versa? I have also seen his name written as Bin-Sattar Reefat. Which is the correct order? I just want to know for sorting purposes. Regards. MaxBrowne (talk) 02:20, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- I guess "Reefat Big-Sattar" is the correct order, "Reefat" must be his personal name and "Sattar" being his father's name with the prefix "Bin" per the Arabian naming convention, many Bengali Muslims follow this convention. --Zayeem (talk) 11:07, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Faculties of University of Rajshahi
Hi WikiProject, there is an article, Faculties of University of Rajshahi that needs some sharp Bangladeshi eyes. Demographics
Would it be possible to create a subordinate project on the demographics of Bangladesh? A lot of essential areas remain either poorly covered or not covered at all. There should be articles on every religious and ethnic minority in the country, ie Bangladeshi Buddhists, Bangladeshi Christians, Bangladeshi Hindus. Articles on the Chittagong Hill Tracts ethnicities should be developed. A large community of Biharis and Ismailis also reside in the country. It would be an interesting project if taken up.--Rainmaker23 (talk) 01:43, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- Rainmaker23, it is definitely possible to create such wiki project and I think many editors interested in Bangladesh related topics would like to join it. The project could improve the articles on the indigenous peoples of Bangladesh which are in pretty bad shape now. However, I don't think the articles you proposed need to be created as we already have articles on Buddhism in Bangladesh, Christianity in Bangladesh and Hinduism in Bangladesh, they should better be redirected to these articles.--Zayeem (talk) 11:35, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
- Well yes the indigenous and other migrant minorities need to be covered well. Which is precisely I believe a project is necessary, there are many communities to cover. And at least the religious minority articles should be brought in line with those such as Islam in America.--Rainmaker23 (talk) 11:48, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
- There is room in Wikipedia for whatever anyone writes based on reliable sources. You are proposing a huge amount of research, writing, and other work. I wish you the best of luck organizing it. If you can actually write or find or produce the content, then yes, there ought to be articles on these topics. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:11, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Rainmaker23 I do not like that this does not exist but I will support you in making it. Ping me if you need help. I would be curious what sources even exist to use as a reference for such an article. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:32, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- Bluerasberry, which article are you talking about? I doubt you have much of a clue of any of these topics, but then again tell me which article, and I'll show you potential sources.--Rainmaker23 (talk) 01:51, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- As you say, I know nothing of Bangladeshi demographics. In Wikipedia I rarely suggest that anyone go looking for sources because it is so difficult, and instead I recommend to just browse what is available and bring to Wikipedia whatever can be found in the best sources. If I could actually request sources based on my own interests, I would want to find these sources:
- The comprehensive text on demographics produced by the Bangladeshi government. Notice that nothing Bangladeshi is cited on Demographics of Bangladesh.
- An overview of non-Bangla speakers in the country, preferably describing region and work information.
- Information about immigration into and out of Bangladesh, preferably describing region and work information.
- Any narratives of temporary migrant workers in Bangladesh, including those who work in Gulf States and those who just go from rural areas to urban areas.
- Any information about gender imbalances, that is, areas where the number of males and females has large variation.
- Geographic variation in incidence of HIV or other sexually transmitted infections in Bangladesh by region.
- I am asking for all of these things but generally this kind of information is not easily available. If you find secondary sources - not primary studies done by a small team of researchers - then I would incorporate those sources into some articles.
- Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:20, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- There are potentially a huge number of articles on all countries. The problem in general is finding which sources exist for what topics and getting access to those sources. For efforts of this type I personally think one of the best preliminary steps is to find other extant reference sources on the topic and generate pages like those in Category:WikiProject lists of encyclopedic articles which can provide basic information on what such sources cover how much comparative weight they give it and often what secondary sources are available on such topics. Such lists are pretty much by definition not complete but they can help establish topical outlines. I may have some access to some reference sources on Bangladesh but others should feel free to check what sources might be available to them and what those sources cover as well. - http://www.bbs.gov.bd/home.aspx One could start with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. My concern is regarding minorities. It should not take up a huge swathe of sources to have several pages on each indigenous community. I seem to find a lot of relevant publications on google (especially the first two). --Rainmaker23 (talk) 22:09, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

On a completely separate note, would anyone here consider making the Economy section in the Bangladesh professional. I can help with good sources.--Rainmaker23 (talk) 18:37, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Category rename
The category Category:Leaders of All India Muslim League is being considered for renaming to Category:All India Muslim League members. The discussion is ongoing here. An editor expressed concern that regular participants of related topics might not be aware of it and hence this note here. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:28, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Assistance please
There are a number of Bengali film articles currently at AFD that could benefit from the editorial attention of Bengali editors able to provide expansion and sourcing. Thank you. Schmidt, Michael Q. 10:12, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

A pair of sweet tool
I created two tools for Bengali: bnXlit for Romanization of Bengali and bnIPA for quickly typing IPA pronunciations of Bengali. It might seem like I am advertising here; but I made these tools solely to ease my Wikipedia edits -- and it can be helpful to others within WP:BD. – nafSadh did say 10:36, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
History of Indian Subcontinent
Kindly comment at this RFC for renaming History of India to History of Indian Subcontinent. My rationale is to cater for NPOV, primary topic (as the word 'India' redirects to modern India) and to make it less confusing. This might of Interest to this wikiproject. --lTopGunl (talk) 07:35, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
