Goals

[edit]

Okay, so thanks for coming along to take a look. First, I believe our goal should be to make all the articles about the pilots. Thus we need articles for:

  1. Mike Mangold
  2. Péter Besenyei
  3. Kirby Chambliss
  4. Klaus Schrodt
  5. Nicolas Ivanoff
  6. Nigel Lamb
  7. Steve Jones (aviator)
  8. Alejandro Maclean
  9. Paul Bonhomme
  10. Frank Versteegh
  11. Michael Goulian

Lets get to work! One last thing, I will try and send round a weekly notice each Friday to keep everyone up to date. Please keep this and the project page on your watchlist. Cheers, --HamedogTalk|@ 13:39, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That should not be too much of a problem. I will see whether I can take care of the Dutchie in a few minutes. SportsAddicted | discuss 14:02, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Day Awards

[edit]

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 19:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Aviation proposal

[edit]

There is currently a proposal to create an Aviation WikiProject, which would serve to clarify how all the aviation related projects relate, and help with interproject editing. See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aircraft#Proposal_Recap for how the projects hierarchy. Part of the reorganization proposes that, because of its very limited scope, WikiProject Red Bull Air Race World Series become a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Aviation. For an idea of how task forces work, take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Military_history. They have a number of task forces, listed here. As described by them, "task forces are informal groups of editors gathered for collaborative work on a particular topic within the field of military history; all project members are encouraged to participate in any that interest them." The benefit of such a system it that the sub-topics have all the resources of the overall project at their disposal. For instance, the Military history project banner, is placed on every military history page, and the related task forces are listed at the bottom of it. All military history related articles are thereby joined under one roof. I just happened to stumble upon your project, and had until now never realized it existed. By joining forces with another project you will benefit from increased exposure. If you have any ideas or comments, please join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 02:24, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've created a project banner at User:Trevor MacInnis/sandbox/Aviation banner. This banner can replace all the various banners used by the various projects, while still providing all the individual uses, such as categorizing articles under specific projects. It is based on the banner user by the Military history project ({{WPMILHIST}}). An example of it in use is at User talk:Trevor MacInnis/sandbox/Aviation banner, and you can see that by using the various parameters, all aviation articles will be combined under the aviation project at Category:WikiProject Aviation articles and when tagged properly, in their respective Category:Rotorcraft task force articles, etc. It will also allows us to introduce other areas of the Wikiproject, such as "collaboration of the month", and take advantage of the larger total number of users throughout the projects. Please comment at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aviation#A_Single_Project_Banner_for_use_by_all_aviation_related_projects. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 21:17, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coordination for improved productivity

[edit]

Could everyone have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Aviation Project Coordinator Proposal, and make any comments there. This is an idea that the Military History project uses, and their production of high quality articles far exceeds ours. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 23:56, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Dear Lord, can you please reconsider the logo for this project immediately. For it is awful, and in no way complements the proposed quality of both the project and articles.
If you wish for myself to construct a new logo, for I am competent in various photo-editing software programs (Photoshop, iPhoto, Jasc Paintshop, etc.), then PLEASE do ask!
I would only be more than satisfied to do so, since I am sure it would improve the outlook on this article.
It is this website that claims "logo design is commonly believed to be one of the most important areas in graphic design, thus making it the most difficult to perfect. The logo, or brand, is not just an image, it is the embodiment of an organization. Because logos are meant to represent companies and foster recognition by consumers it is counterproductive to redesign logos often.".

Inactive?

[edit]

With 20 related articles (according to the assesment), all either start or stub class, does this project need to be its own separate wikiproject, or can it be moved to a task force of the aviation project? Also, could someone sign up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Coordinators to be this projects liason? - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 16:26, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changing to a task force. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 06:38, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project Maintenance

[edit]

There is now a new page, Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Maintenance, that lists backlogged areas needing work, articles not covered under the assessment, etc. It is automatically updated by a bot daily. If your looking for something to do, check it out. If there is anything that you would like to see covered, let me know. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 23:59, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Combining and renaming this task force

[edit]

This task force is fairly quiet, and has a grand total of 21 articles in its scope. Since there are many articles in the air sports area that have no project to look after them, and since Red Bulls articles would fall under the air sports scope, does this task force object to being renamed and retasked as the Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Air sports task force? - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 09:31, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3000 photos now available

[edit]

For sometime there have been available some 3000 photos from a photographer in Switzerland who has a wealth of photos, especially from the 1970s-1980s of aviation in Europe and the US (and elsewhere). He has licenced them all under GFDL. I have uploaded several dozen over time, and they can be found at Commons:Category:Photos by Eduard Marmet. All available photos can be found at http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?photographersearch=Eduard%20Marmet. Only Eduard Marmet's photos are able to be uploaded. If uploading, do so to Commons only and use this template Commons:Template:EduardMarmet. Using this template will add the necessary OTRS permissions and will also place the photos in Eduards commons category. If uploading, be sure to remove the airliners.net banner from the bottom, etc also. Bookmark those link, and make use of them, as they are available and there is a wealth of photos there for all aviation topics. Any questions, contact me on my talk page as I may not see discussion here. --Russavia Dialogue 13:55, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Project participation

[edit]

There is a discussion and poll about project participation going on here. Please take a look and share your opinions. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 22:46, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aviation contest

[edit]

As many of you are aware from the invitations I sent out, there is a new contest starting in the Aviation project. If I somehow missed you, check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest. I created this contest for, what is provisionally titled The Peter M. Bowers International Award For Meritorious Service in the Pursuit of Aviation Knowledge or PeMBoInAwMeSPAK, with the aim to motivate increased quality in aviation articles and improve participation in the Aviation WikiProject by offering a form of friendly competition for project members. We already have 20 members signed up, if you would like to take part you can sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the competition will start soon; if you can't take part, come out and help the competitors by assisting in their peer reviews, article promotions, etc. Hope to see you there! - Trevor MacInnis contribs 19:03, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation

[edit]

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Wizardman 23:39, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone in your task force please take a look at this article and see if you can help? I mistakenly tagged it for speedy deletion and am now trying to help the original editor as much as possible. However, I know absolutely nothing about model aircraft. Thank you. WP 1.0 bot announcement

[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:29, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Notability

[edit]

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:13, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Commons Aviation Wikiproject

[edit]

Several editors have decided to start a Commons Aviation WikiProject which is going to be devoted to aviation-related content on Commons; Commons:Commons:WikiProject_Aviation. Some of the main tasks for the project include maintaining and sorting aviation content, as well as working on obtaining permission from photographers to upload their photos to Commons, in addition to working on introducing photographers to Commons to get them to upload photos directly to Commons. There is a discussion at Commons:Commons_talk:WikiProject_Aviation at which we are trying to ascertain what the needs of the community-at-large are, so please feel free to join in the discussion. Also, if there are any project members who are willing to do some translation work for us that would be great. See Commons:Commons_talk:WikiProject_Aviation#Translations for more info. Also, anyone with scripting knowledge would be welcome, as there are some ideas which would require such expertise. Look forward to hearing from project members over on Commons with any ideas, etc. Please feel free to translate this message as needed. [edit]

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Air sports task force/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Aviation.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Aviation, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
