some more articles
Just posting some more links I'm aware of. Afro-European, Black people in Ireland, African Italians, British African-Caribbean community, Black Ladino, Black Seminoles, Cimarron people (Panama), Garifuna, Saramaka, Afro-Ecuadorian people, Afro Costa Rican (there's talk about merging it with Afro-Latin American), Afro-Guyanese... and now I just discovered List of topics related to Black and African people. Good luck to this project! ---Sluzzelin 06:00, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Somebody should create an article called Black Athiests for consietency with Black Jews and Black Muslims. There definently needs to be an article called Black Christians as well.--Sefringle 04:11, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- There's an article called Black church but I'll redirect Black Christians to it. Because of the low incidence of Athiesm in the Black community I don't know whether there will be enough verifiable resources to create such an article. But I'll stick it on the main list. CJ 14:08, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
African-American organized crime
Please take a look at African-American organized crime. The problem with the title is that it is ambiguous, it appears to link African Americans with the notion of "organized crime" implying guilt by association. A better heading may be African Americans and organized crime or some other more neutral heading you may wish to suggest. I have tried to do the same with Jewish-American organized crime by changing it to American Jews and organized crime but I was reverted, see Talk:Jewish-American organized crime#Recent page move. Only three articles in Category:Organized crime groups have this kind of "title": African-American organized crime; Greek-American organized crime and Jewish-American organized crime. So will there be 134 articles in the future about "Foo organized crime" for all 134 categories in Category:American people by ethnic or national origin and indeed for every class of human on Earth without hypocrisy??? Note how there is no article for Italian American organized crime as it's simply and correctly called Mafia. African Americans and Jewish Americans are not connected with organized crime as "representatives" or "symbols" of their race or religion. Every group has its criminals. So what else is new. Sure there are "gangs" just as there are Category:Mafia gangs in Category:Mafia groups (and by the way, if there are such African American or Jewish American gangs or groups then name them, but let's not leave it as if "guilt" is being laid at the door of all African Americans or Jewish Americans etc), but the titles African-American organized crime or Jewish-American organized crime makes it sound, way, way bigger than it is in reality, and could easily slip into racism and antisemitism if not handled in a scrupulously WP:NPOV manner 100% of the time! The job of Wikipedia should not be to magnify the problem which is called POV editing, but to depict things accurately as they are. Please add your views. Thank you, IZAK 23:57, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- IZAK, i suggest you follow these steps:
- Read descriptive names at WP:NCON and article title and refer other parties to them
- Raise the issue at WikiProject Criminal Biography in order to reach consistency and fair fashion
- Request a move
- Note that i totally agree w/ all of what you've said. I'll be keeping an eye. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 21:58, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject stuff
Would it be possible to set up some more organized assessments and peer reviews of articles like some other projects have? Also, I'd really like to get a collaboration going on African American Culture. It's been on that list of challenges on the recent changes page (I have no idea why) since forever and I think it would be a good article to get up to featured article status. XXX-American actors category
A bunch of Ethnicity-American actors categories have been nominated for deletion, such as Category:African-American actors. If you have an opinion on this, please weigh in on the issue at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_May_25#Category:American_actors_by_ethnicity. Leonidas Berry
I added an article about Leonidas Berry and removed the name from the request list. Optimale Gu 10:04, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks CJ 12:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Congrats to Optimale. Leonidas Berry made it to the front page as a DYK. CJ 17:00, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks again to CJ for the nomination! Optimale Gu 08:58, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Ruth Ella Moore
I added an article about Ruth Ella Moore - she wasn't on the request list but should have been ;). Optimale Gu 11:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Gnome Week
There's an attempt to organize a massive cleanup of Wikipedia going on. As many of us that can should participate.
Creation of a racism template
I was thinking wikipedia should have a racism template. Especially since wikipedia has an antisemitism template {{antisemitism}}. Does anyone have an opinion?--Sefringle 04:37, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- There's already {{Segregation}} and {{Discrimination sidebar}} CJ 11:37, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think a racism template would be a little different though. More similar to the antisemitism template, but with material relevant strictly to racism.--Sefringle 03:48, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Personally I don't think it's necessary. But if you'd like to do it I might be able to help. Just make sure you have a world view and not just an African American one. CJ 10:08, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- What is most necessary is a racism template similar to the {{antisemitism topics}} template--sefringleTalk 05:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I have created {{Racism topics}}. The template is still incomplete, and before it is placed in any article, I would like to finish it.--sefringleTalk 07:09, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

African-Diaspora Political Articles
If possible I'd appreciate it if someone could try to make Black Panther party, Black power, and other African-diaspora related articles with WP:NPOV issues articles a priority. Especially controversial politics and civil rights articles. While no consensus will ever be reached on what will constitute a neutral article on these subjects, I feel it is important that they attempt to represent the issues honestly. If possible we could turn this into a series of organized collaborations, possibly for Wikipedia:Gnome Week. If not I will add them to my personal list. Thank you for your help. CJ 00:24, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Molefi Kete Asante
The article Molefi Kete Asante got a major rewrite from a new user today. I don't have time to go through it, I'm not sure if it is a copyvio, but it went from a clean but start class article to a long article needing a major cleanup (pretty much no sources in either text, btw). If anybody knows much about African film and can help out there, I'm sure the new user who made these edits would appreciate it. Thanks, Smmurphy(Talk) 04:53, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Black Church Template
In the spirit of Sefringle's Racism template, I made the {{Black church}}. I think I've got most of the denominations, but I definitely need input on church leaders and whether to include other groups. CJ 15:38, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
List of historically black colleges of the United States
I posted a question on the discussion page for List of historically black colleges of the United States in April 2007 and have yet to receive an answer. There is no link to this WikiProject at that site and I don't want to adopt it on your behalf, but you might be interested to incorporate it in your group and to take a look at my question sometime. Greetings from Wikipedia:WikiProject Erie. If you have any questions I might answer from northwestern Pennsylvania, US, let me know. --Pat 05:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've provided a response on that article's talk page. CJ 07:20, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Anti-Black racism
Considering there are articles about discrimination about many other groups, and considering how notable a topic anti-black racism is, there probably should be an Anti-Black racism article or something similar created.--SefringleTalk 22:20, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
AFD
Is there a reason we're using ethnic groups and Africa for AFD? CJ 00:48, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- yes. Everything covered by this wikiproject that possibly could be put up for an afd would fit into one of those two categories. It doesn't make sense at the current time that we have our own delsort. We're not big enough.--SefringleTalk 01:58, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. That's what I figured. CJ 09:38, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Just to let everyone know Underground Railroad is the current WP:Spotlight page - feel free to join us at #wikipedia-spotlight. For some reason we're not getting many editors right now so we could use all the help we can get--danielfolsom 18:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Request for Comment
There is currently a discussion at Talk:Saint Maurice#Request for Comment:Image in Infobox about which image of the subject should be used in the infobox. Any comments are welcome. John Carter 22:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
As a member of Wikiproject:Florida, I expanded the Kingsley Plantation article last week. I thought it needed a proper peer review, and should probably be under the scope of this project. Thanks. Moni3 22:15, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Moni3
Black Muslims Colaboration
I'm looking for some help on improving the Black Muslims article. The article needs to be globalized and referenced. And depending on what we get from various places it may need to be split into multiple articles. Thanks for anyone who can offer any help. CJ 19:06, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Scope of this project
Do prominent people of African descent (such as MLK) fall under this project? I noticed that, for instance, there was no banner under MLK nor Obama referring to Wikiproject African diaspora. WDavis1911 02:35, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- they are added now. Yahel Guhan 03:57, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- The thing is that this is a project with an immense scope and precious few members. Probably due to an overall lack of interest/knowledge about the subject matter. There's just a lot of stuff that hasn't been gotten to yet. CJ 09:04, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- When I did my first round of tagging I had not put the tags on *any* people. I think MLK makes sense, but not Obama, as much. Only becuse he is not *directly* involved in civil rights etc. I think we should tage people who are:
- Primarily civil rights leaders
- Historic figures who played an important role in the movement of African people and cultures across the globe.
- Diaspora scholars
- Musicians, Artists, etc. who have identified with the diaspora in some way
Rather than tagging every person who's Black in the whole world... That could get silly. There is already a category for people of african decent and it's a sub category to African diaspora. futurebird 01:37, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm thinking we should focus primarily on culture and history related articles as those tend to be the most lacking. This might also be an opportunity for us to consider our own article assessment and importance reviews. This way we can better focus our efforts. CJ 18:37, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Do you know how to make a project banner template for "importance reviws" ? I think that would be a great way to start planning what we should work on next. futurebird 13:04, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- We could always copy someone elses. I'll get started on it asap. CJ 13:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, CJ! :) futurebird 17:12, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ok I've got what I copied out from the schools project template in my userspace {{User:Crownjewel82/sandbox}}. Test it for me before we update the real one. CJ 22:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

New Template: testing
Okay! It seems to be working! We need to make pages for the categories that will go with this template (I'll do this onece it is up and running) and we need to put something here about how we want to rate these articles.

- So I ended up having today off from work so I got the categories created along with getting the template up and running. Now, I'm off to Waffle House for some cheering up waffles since the WNT just got killed by Brasil. CJ 13:59, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Merge?
It has been suggested that Race and ancient Egypt be merged into Afrocentrism... what do you think about this? I think that this just shows that the Afrocentrism article is in need of a lot of work... Please take this up at the talk page for Afrocentrism... futurebird 13:03, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Turkedit?
Can anyone explain who or what "turkedit" is? I've seen a number of edits from different IP addresses, generally adding an Africa-diaspora stub template or category, with the word "turkedit" in the edit summary or in the edit itself. (Examples: [1], [2], [3]) -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:32, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Don't know. Does it really matter? It doesn't look like they're vandalizing pages. CJ 23:25, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well it isn't a huge deal, but some of these edits do require clean-up. I wouldn't call it vandalism, as the edits do appear to be made in good faith, but one IP address was putting the word "turkedit" in the article space. As for the other edits, I'm not sure why it's relevant to have "turkedit" in the edit summary; if they want to put their stamp on their edits, then why not use an account? Also: adding articles to a stub category, without actually adding a stub tag (there may be nothing wrong with this, but in my experience it's unusual). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:37, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
