Please replace "1609 – The crew of British sailing ship [...]" with "1609 – During a hurricane, the crew of British sailing ship [...]". It provides additional information on the actual hurricane that, too, inspired The Tempest. --bender235 (talk) 00:58, 25 July 2012 (UTC) bender235 (talk) 00:58, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Fall of Mussolini
[edit]Good morning
On July 25th, 1943 (70 years ago) the fascist Gran Consiglio voted a motion of no confidence against Benito Mussolini, who was arrested the same day by king Victor Emmanuel III and substituted by Marshall of Italy Pietro Badoglio. It was the fall of Italian Fascism. I think that this date deserves to be mentioned on the main page. Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 08:20, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Cerro Maravilla murders
[edit]Two points:
The statement currently reads: "1978 – Two Puerto Rican pro-independence activists were killed by police at Cerro Maravilla in Villalba."
The statement should read as : "1978 – Two Puerto Rican pro-independence activists were killed in a police ambush at Cerro Maravilla in Villalba", which is more specific (since a police killing could had been the result of many other more common things such as bank robberies, etc).
Also, please note there is an error. Cerro Maravilla is not located in Villalba, Puerto Rico, as it states, but in Ponce, Puerto Rico. See HERE. So the entire sentence should actually read:
"1978 – Two Puerto Rican pro-independence activists were killed in a police ambush at Cerro Maravilla in Ponce"

Can this date be added? "2000 – Air France Flight 4590, a Concorde supersonic passenger jet, F- BTSC, crashes just after takeoff from Paris killing all 109 aboard and four on the ground." This request is due to aircraft accidents coming more into the public eye these last two weeks with 3 airline crashes in two weeks. This will also show that crashes in the past also had a major influence on aviation. Nathan121212 (talk) 19:19, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
- Not done because of the exact reason you mentioned. As there are currently two air disasters listed on ITN, I felt it was important to get a wider variety of topics on the Main Page. —howcheng {chat} 04:55, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

@Howcheng: Can I ask you to add birth of Ali al-Ridha ref for this day? Regards Saff V. (talk) 06:02, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I don't understand. The article is unsure about his birth date (introduction says circa 29 December, the infobox says circa 1 January (or possibly 5 August), and the "Birth and family life" gives a definite date of 29 December. Nothing about July. If you mean his birth is celebrated as a holiday, that fact is not mentioned anywhere in the article. But besides the birth date, the article has several values for the death date as well. The introduction says 23 August, the infobox says 6 June, and the "Death" section says "The precise day is not agreed upon." So there are a few problems that need to be fixed before this article can be included. Thanks —howcheng {chat} 08:17, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Howcheng: No, There isn't any wide or common celebration for the birth of Ali al-Ridha and I suggested that just it would be nominated as persons who were born on that day in the last sentence (Maxfield Parrish (b. 1870) · Erika Steinbach (b. 1943) · Louise Brown (b. 1978)) of wp:OTD part. You know, the problem is the kind of calendar. In Muslim society, the birth of Ali al-Ridha or other Shia Imams have been celebrated based on Solar Hijri calendar. So that as nominating in this source, he was born on 11th of Dhu al-Qidah and this date is matched with 25 July. Saff V. (talk) 08:41, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Saff V.: For births/deaths, we normally list on the Gregorian date, except that as I stated above, the article doesn't make clear what that is. —howcheng {chat} 16:04, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
