March 2016 meetup

[edit]

March 26, 2016, 9 AM to 1 PM. Wikipedia Edit-a-thon Party. The edit-a-thon will be held in the Mission Valley Library in San Diego, 2123 Fenton Pwy. We will meet for breakfast at IHOP, 2169 Fenton Pwy, at 9AM. We will go next door to the library around 10 AM. If you come by trolley, take the Green Line to Fenton Pwy. If you drive, there is plenty of parking. Bring your laptop! This is a fun group of people that will make you feel at home. Please let us know if you're interested with messages to Swedam (talk)

Note: this meeting was originally scheduled for March 19, and has been rescheduled to March 26. If anyone can edit the Meetup box on the page, we can't get to it to remove the March 19 date. Thanks very much! DrMel (talk) 18:54, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

February 2014 meetup

[edit]

A Wikipedian Sebastian Wallroth will be here in San Diego from 3 to 8 February and would like to meetup with local Wikipedians here in the San Diego area. I would be up for it but would only be available on Monday the 3rd, or Saturday the 8th after 1600; however, it is far enough in advance that I can change my schedule around to accommodate a meetup. Would anyone else be interested in meeting a German Wikipedian?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:44, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to meet with Mr. Wallroth. Those dates are open at this time, I would to get a specific date soon, if possible. Monday the 3rd or Saturday the 8th are good. Jim1138 (talk) 22:20, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would be up for a Monday 3 FEB meeting, say in the afternoon, pre-dinner, for an hour or two?-RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:39, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's getting closer to the date, where are we at with this? Is it just Jim1138 and myself interested in meeting this German Wikipedian?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 11:23, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still interested in a meeting. I'll reside at The Dana on Mission Bay arriving on Sunday February 2nd. --Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 10:38, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, are you planning anything mid-afternoon on Monday 3 February? What about you Jim?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 12:50, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Anything happening today? Jim1138 (talk) 20:10, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! I'm interested in a February meetup too. I'll be here in SD for the next 8 weeks. --trm 03:41, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Pride 2014

[edit]

Are there any SD residents interested in participating in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a multi-national effort to improve coverage of LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects? Perhaps an edit-a-thon or a photography project? Please visit the project page for details or let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Another Believer (Talk) 17:36, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone from San Diego going to 2014 LA Wiknic?

[edit]

I missed the San Diego Wiknic - still feeling very much the newb. Would love to connect with others in SD / SoCal. Wondering if any SD wikipedians are heading to LA Wiknic on July 6? DrMel (talk) 23:36, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

April 2015

[edit]

I am thinking of holding a meetup this March. I had stopped editing heavily for a while, and have since returned, and it has been a while since an actual meetup has occurred. I have become involved in a fandom community in Southern California, so many of my free weekends are already booked. How does April 11th (Saturday), in the evening, sound to everyone?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 18:50, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'm available. Feel free to ping me nearer the time. Bovlb (talk) 06:42, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
While I live in Chula Vista, I think a central location, accessible to public transit would be good for everyone. Also should we chose a place that serves adult beverages? food?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 19:14, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to join if I'm in town. Helping with an Art edit-a-thon at UC Irvine March 7 (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Irvine/ArtandFeminism/UC_Irvine). Definitely interested in getting edit-a-thons happening here in SD, especially on psychology and "quality of life" related articles. DrMel (talk) 22:31, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bovlb: & @DrMel: How does 11 April sound to everyone, say a casual meetup after 1730PDT? If we want to actually work on stuff, we can look at the following day 12 April.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:27, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I put it in my calendar. I'm North County so somewhere a little north of SD would work well for me. Bovlb (talk) 21:46, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bovlb: & @DrMel:, I have created a new page to carry on our discussion: Wikipedia:Meetup/San Diego/April 2015.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 03:30, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

January 2016

[edit]

I know this is WAY in the future, but I would like to know who from WP:CAL, WP:SAN, and WP:MLP would be interested in being on a panel at a convention, specifically about the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fandom.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:44, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a confirmation of panel participation, but to see whom maybe interested.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:58, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
San Diego is too far for me to travel. Dogman15 (talk) 03:36, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
From Northern California, it is an eight hour drive, perhaps Dogman15 can carpool with those who are coming down?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 04:46, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I'm interested to come. But seeing that I'm from Australia, there's a very low chance that I can come. Seeing that international airfare is quite expensive here XP Good luck to whoever goes ^^ ILM126 (talk) 10:06, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, location disparity – I'm a Singaporean. (I also note that I'm no longer interested in the Wikipedia MLPFIM articles, though I still contribute at the E club and on pony/art sites elsewhere.) Parcly Taxel 12:45, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Late October 2016 meetup

[edit]

Who is interested in attending a meetup in late October, hosted by Dr. Mel, in Mission Valley, with the goal of starting a usergroup and getting edit-a-thons started back up again.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 02:30, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a meetup.com posting for the event here.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:18, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PETER'S IDEAS FOR SanDiego Wikipedians GRANT FUNDS :)

[edit]

Hi all. Ideas of things on which to spend grant funds, of San Diego | SoCal Wikiians | Wikipedians:
° Pizza (!!) and flavored Seltzer for meetups 😁🍕🍕🥤
° Standee sign for library meetups to put outside the door, actually, maybe two, one for outside/outdoors from the library entrance..?
° Possible to buy FB ads ? I dunno, or Google AdWords promoting our group (s),
° Funding for an annual .ORG website domain name that merely redirects to the Wikipedia page? We could pay extra for the Privacy Feature. Very inexpensive, maybe both are ~$15+29 annually?
° Ability to have paid presenters or speakers, rent an auditorium if not allowed at library? Put on debates for fun about wiki policies?

Thank you so much for joining us in the organizing of such things! Excellent ideas. At next meetup, let’s work on designing and drafting more fundable project proposals - so much momentum to build from! DrMel (talk) 04:32, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good @DrMel:! -Peter aka Vid2vid (talk) 19:48, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

June 29 2019 - Meetup in San Diego

[edit]

Hi all, I'm a Wikipedian from Berlin, Germany. I'll be in San Diego June 25 to July 8 to meet family. I would like to meet Wikipedians in San Diego just for a drink and a chat. What do you think? --Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 11:44, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sebastian Wallroth (talk · contribs) and welcome in advance to the States and San Diego! I'm merely an average, casual Wikipedia editor and contributor, but enjoy it a lot and I would be interested in meeting you. I could research local bars that have spacious *dry* tables for Chromebooks and laptops and that offer free WiFi.. :) - In what part of San Diego County will you be based or staying? From Peter. Vid2vid (talk) 19:22, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi User:Vid2vid, I'll stay at California Suites Hotel, 5451 Clairemont Mesa Blvd and a have a hire car. I have no appointments so far. Would be nice to see you and others and to have a nice evening together. --Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 06:00, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I‘m here now, hoping to hear from anybody who is interested in a Meetup. —Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 02:19, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome! I certainly am interested, in getting a communal beer or a dinner. Shout out to have two (2) folks join us @DrMel: and @RightCowLeftCoast:.. :) ..from Peter. Vid2vid (talk) 03:30, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Lets not forget about @Vahidmasrour:. What do y'all have in mind? I don't have time off really until Saturday (29 June) evening.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 05:02, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Saturday would be fine for me. --Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 17:17, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sat June 29 is perfect, I am free up until approx 630pm. Lunch, or early dinner, or just drinks? @DrMel: prefers Mission Valley region which is near her; we could do a Fashion Valley mall restaurant, or Cheesecake Factory, (then visit the Apple Store heh). @RightCowLeftCoast: and @Vahidmasrour: are all 5 of us "watch'ing" this Wiki page now? And available Sat/what time? Peace! -Peter Vid2vid (talk) 17:49, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @DrMel: is interested in adjourning instead to the La Jolla Shores massive bonfire MeetUp I was considering hitting, which is 7pm til ?, here is the link. Any interest? Alcohol is snuck in but not legal. Cheers, Peter. Vid2vid (talk) 19:34, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Sebastian Wallroth: and @Vid2vid: I’d love to meet up! Going to the WikiSummit in Berlin in March totally changed my life and added rocket fuel to the wiki projects I / we have been working on. On Saturday, I’m open in the evening and going to the bonfire Peter recommenced sounds great. I could use the outing and beach time! (and any of our beaches are so so much more worth seeing than a fancy shopping mall! (though Fashion Valley Mall is interesting as a place to study human behaviors, but maybe that’s just me)). Wherever works best for you all - I can drive over. I also have extra seats in my car if anyone needs a lift. Message me directly? @RightCowLeftCoast: do you have time to add the event details to wikiSoCal meetup pages? Inclusivity = invites (even if they are last minute). DrMel (talk) 04:28, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DrMel: I can, but perhaps we should choose a solid location and time first. Then it can be added to the meetup.com page, as well as the facebook.com group.
May I propose that @Sebastian Wallroth: be met at a place which features regional cuisine? For instance, if the editor has not had it before, the California burrito or Carne asada fries is a regional staple, and among the local Filipino American community crack wings are a staple.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 03:19, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to Locate "List of Members" section and make sure I'm on it..

Help (please) :) -Peter aka Vid2vid (talk) 19:46, 5 August 2019 (UTC) & .. added "please" on Vid2vid (talk) 07:40, 16 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

@Vid2vid: perhaps this is what is being sought meta:San Diego Wikimedians User Group#Participants and Supporters?--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 05:23, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@RightCowLeftCoast: - Happily added myself there, thanks. Strange that it wasn't intuitive to find. -Peter, aka Vid2vid (talk) 07:40, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for assistance at the 1000 Women in Religion San Diego Edit-a-thon, Friday, November 22

[edit]

Hi San Diego Wikipedians. Wikipedia:WikiProject 1000 Women in Religion is holding a beginners workshop/edit-a-thon for members of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature on Friday, November 22, 9am - 1pm at the San Diego Convention Center. We are a relatively new Wikiproject so are seeking help from a more experienced Wikipedian or two to help us at this edit-a-thon with questions and technical issues we may not know the answer to. You can find more information about the event at Wikipedia:Meetup/San Diego/1000 Women in Religion 2019. Let me know if you can help.--Dzingle1 (talk) 16:26, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MisNomer Title? Also, Summer SoCal Wiknic 2020?

[edit]

Hi all, two quick matters - 1. Isn't this page, Wikipedia:Meetup/San Diego a bit of a misnomer, with the subsection called Upcoming, including not only San Diego links, but also Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, London!, Phoenix, and possibly a few others? What's going on with that? 2. Is this Meetup page a good place to start planning a SoCal WIKNIK Summer 2020 Meetup? Invitation/reach would include much of California, soCal, Inland Empire, Riverside, possibly Tijuana Mexico, but especially LA, Orange County, and San Diego... Is anyone interested in helping to plan this? Please contact me. Thanks! --From Peter a.k.a. Vid2vid (here's his talk page), 🖋 on 18:45, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
