diacritics lost when importing text file
I had a list of articles drawn up with a query to toolserver here. I copied to a .txt file and reformatted so that it would be understood by AWB (that is, I changed |Abipón to #[[:Abipón]], etc.), and then imported it as a text file. However, all accented letters were dropped from the list: "Abipón", for example, came in as "Abipn". This also happened with Kanoé, Apiacá, Chané, Karajá, Masbateño, Mocoví, Äynu ("Kano, Apiac, Chan, Karaj, Masbateo, Mocov, ynu").
My OS and version of AWB have not changed from my last report on this page. — kwami (talk) 15:41, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Probably you didn't save the text file as UTF-8, so accents were lost on save. Load "links on page" from Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Sandbox instead. Rjwilmsi 15:52, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- You're right, I saved it as ANSI. However, the accents were not lost on save: They are still there in the text file. So it would seem to be a bug in AWB.
- I saved as UTF-8, and it imported correctly, but people won't normally know they need to do that when ANSI has no trouble supporting the text. — kwami (talk) 16:10, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- rev 7547 Rename "Text file" list provider to "Text file (UTF-8)" to clarify usage. Rjwilmsi 17:11, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- rev 7548 Add text file list provider for Windows 1252 (ANSI) encoded files, in addition to existing UTF-8 file list provider. Rjwilmsi 17:31, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that was fast! Thanks! — kwami (talk) 21:43, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

It sounds like you are trying to log into AWB as the Ip address you used above and if that is the case you need to create a Username and once you have met the eligibility criteria you can request an account to use AWB. Special graphemes on :sl
Status | Your version of MediaWiki is not supported, please update |

Problem is with "special" graphemes č, ć, đ, ž, š: when bot is shortening code for link, it causes the word to be visually linked only to special graphem. The problem is with sl.wiki. The stickylicks aren't activated. I think we can fix this. I fixed it for the el.wiki in the past. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:04, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Indeed, we want to fix the root cause of this, rather than work around it. I've had a look at the language codes you listed, and SL and HR were missing any sort of linktrail (bar the original english fallback). I've added the basic link trail you mentioned in mw:Special:Code/MediaWiki/82547. The rest of the languages look to have the right sets of characters. If you want to look at the SVN copies [7], and for the languages you care about/understand/whatever, check the $linkTrail variable. (More, the stuff in the too square braces). If there is anything that needs updating, in those languages, please leave me a detailed talk message (on my talk page), listing missing characters from each, or updated examples for each, I can update them in the MW SVN. They should then become live, by localisation update. If not, I will get them scapped out. As it's an improvement for the community, it's much better to update MediaWiki, rather than making AWB work around these! Reedy (talk) 13:44, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Check my fix. -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:09, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- That's great. But AWB doesn't do that. Either AWB should perform that fix, or leave these particular tags alone. Avicennasis @ 02:05, 24 Adar I 5771 / 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with Avicennasis. I looked at Template:Unreferenced, and it has an example showing a section in the description like the one AWB tried to fix. On the template talk page, I requested a better example for the description parameter, as I think it would be better to use {{Unreferenced section}} per Magioladitis' fix. Should not remove full cite information in duplicate cites
Someone just used AWB on the Multiregional evolution page, which I'm currently cleaning up. I noticed that the full cite information was removed in one case, leaving just a cite by name. This can be problematic because someone may remove the only remaining cite in a reorganization or rewrite, leaving an orphaned name cite, which may not be that easy to catch. In my opinion best practice is to leave the full cite information with every occurrence, leaving the name feature as a way of merging cites in display for the benefit of readers. This should at any rate be a conscious decision on the part of editors, so it shouldn't be done in an automated tool. Please have AWB leave full cites alone. If this is a feature request rather than a bug, please move it there. Diff here:
http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Multiregional_origin_of_modern_humans&action=historysubmit&diff=406110873&oldid=406110598 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Warren Dew (talk • contribs)
- Not done The use of condensed named references is common practice at Wikipedia per WP:REFNAME. If you disagree with this policy then please post at WP:REFNAME. Rjwilmsi 19:35, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- That's not what he's asking, though -- he's asking that cites be left in, but that dup cites be given the name of the first one, so that any one can be deleted without orphaning the refs. Correct? While it's not a bad idea, it could lead to confusion, because if you change one without changing the name, it will still combine the named refs, even though they no longer match. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:45, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Correct. WP:REFNAME says that whether to keep the bodies of multiple duplicate cites is a matter for editorial judgement, so it shouldn't be automated. With respect the the possibility of the bodies no longer matching, they should still both refer to the same document, so while they may contain different data the data they both contain should always match. Hopefully people who use refnames change the name when they change the document it refers to - I always try to use a unique refname, such as a DOI if available. I'm wondering if just using http://username:password@host:port for the proxy would work... Reedy (talk) 20:18, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've added such line at line 93, file apiedit.cs ProxySettings.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(@"user", "mypass"); and everything started working. --Alex Blokha (talk) 18:45, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
- ver 5.2.0.0. Proxy authentification is needed, but it is set up automatically, as I understand, using windows domain rules. Ie ver - 8.0.6001 --Alex Blokha (talk) 09:33, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Fixed in version |
I get this problem every time I open up AWB, and I get this error on both of my computers that I've been running it on. This puts me always configured to connect to http://wiki.riteme.site/, even though I've configured the customized URL to http://www.wowpedia.org/. There's no error or anything when I close the window. Reach me at http://www.wowpedia.org/User_talk:Gourra. --Gourra (talk) 06:42, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- Can you post the proxy settings you are using, or link to a screenshot of them? Thanks Rjwilmsi 11:49, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- I have no specified proxy settings. --Gourra (talk) 13:55, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- AWB fetches proxy settings from your Internet Explorer settings. What do you have specified there? Rjwilmsi 14:32, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- Also: what text are you entering, I think it needs to be
www.wowpedia.org/
. Rjwilmsi 14:36, 21 October 2010 (UTC)- There are no specified proxy settings in IE. The URL keep resetting to
www,wowpedia,org
after I restart it, and when I type inwww.wowpedia.org
I just get the same error and there is no change. --Gourra (talk) 14:43, 21 October 2010 (UTC)- I might have an idea why it acts up, and that might be that the work place has a proxy setting that conflicts with connecting with AWB. If that's the case, I'm just simply out of luck. --Gourra (talk) 06:39, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- I managed to bypass the workplace's firewall/proxy block by using a proxy server, but there's still no luck. --Gourra (talk) 09:11, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

- I have no specified proxy settings. --Gourra (talk) 13:55, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Personal Note: The web is "es.gta.wikia.com", but the program stills saving as "es,gta.wikia.com".
Please update to latest awb's release and rereport if bug insists. -- Magioladitis (talk) 20:51, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
