I would be glad to have help with:

Enslaved v. slave in article naming

[edit]

Hello project members, recently an article I started under the title Angela (enslaved woman) was moved to Angela (slave) - my understanding is that enslaved is the better terminology to use as it describes the act that was forced on people, and does not suggest it was their identity. However the mover, said they were following a convention for XXX (slave). I wondered if there had already been a discussion about this or an RfC more widely? Lajmmoore, That is my undersanding as well. I think that someone may have sought to make a shorter article title without realizing that it is inappropriate to name someone a "slave". I came here looking for a WP reference for the use of "enslaved person" over "slave", for now I have been using external sources. It would be better to have a Wikipedia link.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:42, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Slavery#Terminology.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:43, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there's no need to force uniformity between article titles, so the change wasn't necessary. Lewisguile (talk)

A move discussion ended in favour of slave for certain article titles, Talk:List_of_slaves#Requested_move_16_November_2021. Rsk6400 (talk) 06:58, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is a requested move discussion at Talk:Anti-Black sentiment#Requested move 22 June 2024 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 21:58, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

[edit]

Hello WikiProject African diaspora:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!
