Michigan Wikipedians (or MWiki) is a Wikipedia student organization at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The group was the first student Wikipedia club in the United States.[1][2] The club is open to all students and faculty of the University of Michigan, as well as community members who are interested in Wikipedia.

History

[edit]

The group was founded in August 2010 by student MichChemGSI as the Wikipedians of the University of Michigan. It was the first student Wikipedia club in the United States.[1] In Fall 2010 the group was visited by Frank Schulenburg, head of public outreach for the Wikimedia Foundation.[3]

In July 2011, the group changed its name to Michigan Wikipedians. The most recent in-person meeting of the Michigan Wikipedians was held on April 17, 2014.
