Life span of Lakṣmīpuram Śrīnivāsācārya, Sanskrit scholar and pandit of the Oriental Research Institute Mysore

[edit]

{{resolved}} Lakṣmīpuram Śrīnivāsācārya edited multiple ancient Sanskrit texts (as far as I can see) in the period from 1902 to 1929 while working as assistant pandit at the Oriental Research Institute Mysore. To determine the copyright status of one of the works edited by him, we need his death year, see Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Vishvas vasuki. As it appears, one article was published about him: Srivatsa, Lakshmipuram P. (1994). "Mahamopadhyaya Panditaratna Laksmipuram Srinivasacarya". Quarterly Journal of the Mythic Society. 85 (3): 1–16. ISSN 0047-8555. Has anyone access to this article or is otherwise able to research the year when he died? --AFBorchert (talk) 22:37, 10 February 2018 (UTC) P.S. A similar request has been posted at WP:BIBRA. --AFBorchert (talk) 22:55, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This has now been resolved at WP:BIBRA, Śrīnivāsācārya's life span is 8 March 1866 – 16 January 1938. --AFBorchert (talk) 13:30, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As explained at the top of this page, we can't do full book scans due to copyright constraints. You could try requesting a part of this book (if this is going to be of any use), or specific book reviews (which I imagine will be useful for the article). – Uanfala 11:46, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@HaEr48: Actually, pages 114-163 are Chapter 3: Reading: Affective ABCs of Learning. The chapter is divided into seven sections:
  1. The initial section (114-121)
  2. Sentimental Identities of Learning (121-125)
  3. Tajwid: Apprehending a System (125-132)
  4. Feeling Registers and Alphabetic Association (132-146)
  5. "Traditional" Methods: "Deeper" Learning (146-151)
  6. "Modern" Methods: "Faster" Learning (151-159)
  7. Synthetic Processes of Education and Example (159-163)
The index for "Iqra' (teaching method)" lists 118-119, 151-153, 155-157. Would the initial and "Modern" Methods sections, which cover the indexed pages, suffice for your purpose, or do you need all seven sections of the chapter? --Worldbruce (talk) 06:01, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This book is cited on the LGBT article for the claim that the Q in LGBTQ stands for questioning. I seek to verify that claim. Benjamin (talk) 03:23, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Benjaminikuta: Google Books does prove the claim, but doesn't have the page number. I've emailed Google Books to have them provide the page number. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 03:31, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, although I was hoping for a discussion of the relative prevalence of the term, rather than just a passing mention. Benjamin (talk) 03:39, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Benjaminikuta: Maybe the reference could be replaced with an improved one? This encyclopedia mentions that Q can stand for Queer or Questioning and the Q was added to LGBT in 1996 as well (on page 690). I could look for more different sources if you need. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 03:49, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MrLinkinPark333, have you had luck before with emailing Google Books for bibliographic details such as that? If so, where do you reach out to? --Usernameunique (talk) 05:45, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernameunique: At the bottom of the Google Books page, there is a linked titled Report an issue. It'll take you to a link where you can fill in the problem you're having. The last option "I have a question or feedback about a book" is helpful when you find a book that is public domain but not fully accessible on GBooks or if the title/author/other details is wrong. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:40, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not, as this article does not mention Nashville...Zigzig20s (talk) 05:38, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: Well, that's the one referenced in the LA Times. The archived link for the url mentioned in the article points to the same study. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:58, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: The paper doesn't mention Nashville by name, but figure 1 (which is not inline with the associated text, but can be found on page 52) plots the corruption of state capitals, and the point marked TN (i.e. Nashville, Tennessee) is about the fourth most corrupt state capital. Request two articles from JSTOR for Senusret II

[edit]

{{resolved}} I am currently working on Senusret II and am planning to bring the article up to GA, if not FA. I've got my hands on a number of useful sources, but there's two articles that would help me out here. They are both available on JSTOR, so anybody with access could get hands on them. I'm not one of those people.

Both articles were used by somebody contributing to the article at some point, though their choice of citation formatting made it near impossible for me to determine what source they were using. music reviews on I'm Making Believe

[edit]

{{resolved}}

Hello. I am looking for these two music sources for my draft on I'm Making Believe by Ella Fitzgerald and The Ink Spots that appear here on AllMusic:

  • (june?) 1944 review in Metronome: "Then the Spots before my eyes. It's the same old act for the Spots, and its quality is the nadir of everything"...
  • 1949 review in Melody Maker: "The cloying, sentimentalized tunes with their over-dramatized treatment; and the slow, seldom varying drag tempo, which always seems so exactly right for the number, whatever it is."...

Additionally, there was another review in Metronome magazine (December 1944): "Ella redeems the first side with her wonderful chorus..." I want to see if there's more than what I found on Google Books here.

Thank you. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 03:02, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@MrLinkinPark333: How confident are you that the years and magazines are correctly matched in the two bullet points above? Allmusic has them the other way around, Melody Maker review in 1949, and Metronome in 1944. I paged through the 12 issues of Metronome from 1949 without finding a review of "I'm Making Believe". For what it's worth, they briefly reviewed many other Ella Fitzgerald titles, and the no-holds-barred language is very much in line with their typical reviews from that era, so the quote probably isn't made up, it just isn't from 1949. Alas my library has a gap in their holdings from 1940 to 1948, so I can't check 1944 for you. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:06, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Newspapers.com

I could use a copy of the article about George T. Crawford (an obituary, I think) from p 36 of the December 8, 1905 Boston Daily Globe. The newspapers.com url is this. I suspect the url is for the full page. I know The Wikipedia Library has subscriptions available for this resource but this really is a one-off request and I don't want to take up a resource that could be better used by someone else.

Purpose is to confirm/deny a suspicion I have regarding Crawford family of the White Mountains. If I am right then obviously I will be citing the thing. Thanks. --Sitush (talk) 09:02, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
