01:10:58, 13 August 2019 review of submission by SophiaMMY

[edit]

I'd like to answer the question left by the reviewer - there are plenty of linguists who speak both Mandrin and English, so why is he notable? One prominent reason for my submission is that he is the only one from China's mainland who has been awarded Fellowship by the Chartered Institute of Linguists. Fellowship, as is declared by the CIOL, is its highest professional membership and embodies the 'highest professional standing'. And the official website (I provided as an external link as ref in the draft, or please check here: https://www.ciol.org.uk/teacher-tutor?items_per_page=25&from=31&order=membership_type&sort=desc) shows that there are no more than 20 fellows worldwide in the field of English education.

If we take into account that Mr. Cai is also a Chartered Linguist and a Member of Institute of Interpreting and Translation (in the category of conference interpreting), I have to say that I find the combination of professional recognition at such high levels is quite rare indeed. According to my initial research, I'm afraid there are NOT lots of linguists like that at all.

Meanwhile, before he established his own business Flipped English, he was National Education Director of Web Education (2011-2016). It is hard to say that Web Education has any international influence, but it might help if we know that Web Education is one of the biggest English training insitutions in China, with over 150 schools nationwide covering 62 cities (ref: http://www.webi.com.cn/). Being National Education Director means that he was already at the top of the industry in China as early as in 2011.

I hope they are sufficient to support my claim that he is among the top linguists both in China and the world as a whole and he deserves a place in wikipedia. Thank you!

@SophiaMMY: Wikipedia's criteria for an article is having multiple in-depth sources. Profile/directory entries, especially from related organizations, are not accepted. The Tsinghua source is the closest that comes to the threshold, although it is very short and basically a passing-by news article. I think the reviewer's question was worded a bit misleadingly. "Notability" refers to Wikipedia's notability policy, so what they really are asking is how the subject of the article satisfies the criteria outlined there, especially biographies. This is shown with sources. Sorry you had to write out a long explanation. Your claim that they may be notable is valid, but it now has to be supported by multiple independent in-depth sources. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 09:11, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HELLKNOWZ,

Thank you for responding to my post on August 2019 review of submission of 'Draft:Hero Cai'. I have seen that the key issue here is to prove that person is sufficiently 'notable'.

I have followed the links you gave and found that the wiki policy says 'Academics meeting any one of the following conditions, as substantiated through reliable sources, are notable'. And one of these conditions is 'The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the IEEE).[2]' [1]

Can I ask why the fellowship of the CIOL was not thought to meet this condition, while Fellow if the IEEE, which is an association for technical professionals, is? Can I assume that the CIOL, despite being the only lingiustic institution that has got chartership in the UK, is not considered as prestigious as bodies like IEEE? Would you suggest other institutions for linguists that MIGHT BE considered more prestigeous?

Thank you!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by SophiaMMY (talkcontribs) 01:11, 14 August 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hellknowz (talkcontribs) [reply]

@SophiaMMY: I copied your message here, so that people more familiar with WP:BIO notability can reply. The criteria I mentioned are general criteria and this exception in BIO may apply, but I am not familiar with CIOL and whether Fellowship is sufficient here. It may very well be. But the concern still remains that there should be enough sources to actually write an article and cite everything in it. It's currently extremely short and not based on any sources we normally consider for WP:GNG. I don't know if this exception is sufficient and I do not think the article would make it through a deletion discussion. Again, I might be wrong and I hope someone else chimes in. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 08:43, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is more relevant new information about this fintech. Mcdonaldna (talk) 01:25, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mcdonaldna: Wikipedia requires in-depth coverage that is not just passing news articles. The two news sources are basically short press releases, they don't say anything other than what the company posted. Such sources are not sufficient for an article. More details are explained at the links the reviewer left in the comment. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 09:02, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is an authentic detail of Evaldas Gulbinas. There is no suspicious. please allow the content. EvaldasGulbinas (talk) 08:36, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@EvaldasGulbinas: Articles require multiple in-depth independent sources. Short entries, sponsored content, and related exhibition/gallery entries are not accepted. We don't doubt that the article is true, but that's not how Wikipedia decides what articles to have. The primary requirement is a multitude of quality sources. Also, you have to WP:DISCLOSE any conflict of interest. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 08:56, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Shall I create "Buddha At Work" instead of Geetanjali Pandit

Babitahamdard (talk) 10:59, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Babitahamdard: - the notability criteria are fairly similar for both - if you can prove the book is notable you also prove the author is notable.
What you need to do is to find 2 or 3 reliable, independent reviews of the book Nosebagbear (talk) 12:53, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Can you please let me know why my article has been declined.

Which article are you talking about? —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 12:01, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I guess it's this one User:Orangevinoth/sandbox which has no sources and I declined it for this reason. Please log in when editing. Theroadislong (talk) 12:16, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Frakes928 (talk) 21:37, 13 August 2019 (UTC) This is the first article I have attempted to publish to Wikipedia, and would love to see a list of items needed to complete to make sure the article is approved to be live. Thank you in advance.[reply]

The draft has been rejected because the topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. In order to demonstrate notability, you need to provide references to articles written about Rashad Groce “Tite” in unrelated, independent journals, magazines, books, etc. Theroadislong (talk) 21:43, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would just like some help as to why my Draft was rejected. I would like to learn how to make this page acceptable and great. Dwtrapan (talk) 23:37, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Dwtrapan: You need to provide multiple independent in-depth sources about the company. That is the threshold for an article. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 23:58, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
