07:28:43, 23 May 2016 review of submission by Melanie Vollert

[edit]

I want the mySugr article by the mySugr User deleted and publish this one. Can someone help me?

@Melanie Vollert: Welcome to the Articles for creation help desk.
I suggest that you go to Draft:MySugr and tag it for speedy deletion as G6. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:42, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • You were editing with the name MySugr. I've left a message on your talk page about required disclosures in case you have a connection to the company.
  • User:Melanie Vollert/sandbox uses the same references as Draft:MySugr, which was declined for failing to prove notability. You may want to ask Robert McClenon for elaboration. My own sense is that the TechCrunch and Healthline articles are reliable sources.
  • User:Melanie Vollert/sandbox reads more like something written by the mySugr marketing department than an encyclopedia article. Contrast it with some of Wikipedia's best articles about companies, such as BAE Systems and Oliver Typewriter Company.

Request on 07:38:50, 23 May 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Ahmedasghar2016

[edit]

Hi! I created an article titled Tesoro Accessories using Special:Mypage procedure. The article was submitted for review but submission was declined. The reasons being that the article sounded like an advertisement. Also, it was stated there is a lot of overlinking occurring in the article. Kindly assist on the fact that how can i make my article less like an advertisement, as the article is already very short. How can i avoid overlinking in the article? Also, guide me as to how i can add categories at the end of the article? Thanks

Ahmedasghar2016 (talk) 07:38, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We don't care that " On an Online Press Release, Paula Tesoro stated that every woman has the right to feel beautiful and she wants them to feel amazing through Tesoro Accessories." So what? It's a press release by the owner/founder; what she says is promotional and not to be trusted or noted. What do impartial, third-party sources say about the company? Don't give us fluff and nonsense about the "vibrant" culture she came from, or regurgitated pablum from the company's own marketing materials; tell us simple, verifiable facts about why this company is notable (if it is; you've done nothing to show it so far). --Orange Mike | Talk 22:50, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with OrangeMike, and that is the main reason why I declined it. I wouldn't say it is "already very short". If you have information on the notability of the company, such as reviews in neutral business magazines with sales figures, add them. Do not link women (or its genitive, women's) in an article about a company. Anyone who is reading the English Wikipedia should know that the word 'women' either refers to adult female humans or sometimes to all female humans. More generally, as I noted, the overlinking of ordinary words makes an article hard to read (in a different way than being a marketing brochure). I would like assistance as my page was denied for sounding too much like an "advertisement". Can you please guide me through an article or provide an example that is non-ad like.

Thank you,

Kelsey

Kelseygardner (talk) 13:15, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Look at a sentence like, "provides native and rich media formats for content and ad distribution across premium publisher inventory, driven by its proprietary recommendation technology. Its real-time optimization technology enables plista to display advertising which is designed to be engaging and relevant to the user." With the exception of words like "and" and "which", every word of that sentence is a lie, a euphemism or incomprehensible industry jargon (what on Earth is meant in this bafflegab by "native"????). I must assume you work in the PR industry; as DGG, one of our most respected editors, once wrote, "Experience has unfortunately shown that most (but not all) people with experience in PR cannot be taught to write a proper article, because they are so completely oriented to writing advertisements or quasi-advertisements that they honestly cannot see the difference between that and a proper encyclopedia article." --Orange Mike | Talk 22:44, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Review needed to correctly direct the writer as to what is missing, or needs to be removed or edited on the " Sang Bleu" draft.

@E83DF: To demonstrate notability, in-depth coverage by multiple, independent, reliable secondary sources is needed. I'm not sure whether a clothing company 'zine would be considered a reliable source. You can ask at WP:RSN. Wikipedia prefers scholarly or journalistic sources. The Guardian, Pret-a-Reporter, and MTV either don't mention Sang Bleu or barely mention it, and contain very little about Buchi, only brief quotes from him. Complex and Dazed are primary source interviews. Wikipedia is interested in what other people have said about Sang Bleu, not so much in what the founder says about it.
If sufficient sources can be found to establish notability, then address the language of the draft. "Independent crossover project" and "global project covering fashion, fine art, performance art, literature, sociology and tattooing" do not convey to the reader what Sang Bleu is, and are apt to leave the impression that Buchi doesn't have a clue either. "Recognised destination for tattooing" is also problematic phrasing. Presumably any hole in the wall with a "Tattoo Parlour" sign out front is a recognised destination for tattooing. --Worldbruce (talk) 01:05, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Burning Glass Technologies - emails soliciting page creation

[edit]

I and at least one other editor have received direct Wikipedia emails from a media company asking us to create a new page for an American company. Whilst there was no suggestion of payment to us, clearly the Wikipedia user who made the approach was employed by that company, and made that evident. The email reads:

I'm reaching out to you today on behalf of one of my clients, Burning Glass Technologies.

They've asked me to reach out to a handful of Wikipedia editors like yourself in hopes that you would be interesting in helping to create and develop the Burning Glass Wikipedia page.

Burning Glass is a company based out of Boston, MA, USA and is focused on reshaping the job market by providing analytics that empower employers, workers, and educators to make data-driven decisions. Burning Glass is interested in establishing a Wikipedia page about their company, as other similar companies in their industry (such as Glassdoor and Talent Technology) have pages already.

I've included some notable news clips about Burning Glass below to help give you a better idea of the company. You can also learn more on their website at www.burning-glass.com. We would very much appreciate your help in beginning a Wikipedia page for Burning Glass, and to be sure that we mind Wikipedia's community standards in the process. If there is any more information I can pass along, please don't hesitate to ask.

I didn't feel this sort of email was appropriate, and would welcome advice on whether this is acceptable practice, and the best course of action if it is not. Parkywiki (talk) 21:39, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is grossly abusive of our system. What Wikipedia account was used to send these e-mails? (They have forfeited any expectation of privacy by using our platform this way.) --Orange Mike | Talk 22:33, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It was a blank account name (Dajack02) which has never made any edits. However, I do have the gmail address of the sender which I can make available, if required. Parkywiki (talk) 22:42, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As the "at least one other editor" referred to above, I added a search for Burning Glass Technologies to my favorites.
Until today, there were no matches, other than two mentions at Wikipedia:Articles for creation then this edit was made to Résumé, and the same editor has started a draft at User:Sbugs/Burning Glass Technologies - Arjayay (talk) 16:09, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've watchlisted the draft and have removed the needless name-dropping of the companies at Résumé. /wiae /tlk 16:18, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It has now been moved to Burning Glass Technologies - Arjayay (talk) 16:28, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. That is a redirect from article space to user space. I have tagged the redirect for speedy deletion. I have nominated the userspace article for miscellaneous deletion as a WP:FAKEARTICLE. Either they can move it to real article space (and face AFD), or they can move it to draft space. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:29, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Have deleted the addition of a link to that redirect as a "See also" link at Résumé - Arjayay (talk) 18:47, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
