Hi I have been trying to write this article: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Daniel Silver for a long time and it has been always refused. Could anyone help me to understand what's wrong with it? Thanks valentina3000 Valentina3000 (talk) 00:43, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As multiple reviewers told you, the draft's tone is unduly promotional, and the sources for those vague but well-sounding phrases (what does it mean to "carve out the psychological and emotional dimension of sculpture"?) are largely not based on reliable third-party sources but on the websites of galleries exhibiting Silver's work. How can I add an image ( copyrighted to which I have the permission to use in a wikipedia article) in an article? When I try to upload it, it says my article needs to be published first in order to upload an image that is copyrighted

Thank you very much — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acheytan (talkcontribs) 02:41, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Permission to use the image in a Wikipedia article is not enough; to be considered "free" the image must be released under a license that allows everybody to re-use it for any purpose, including commercial purposes, such as the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License. If your image was released under such a license, you can upload it to the Wikimedia Commons via their Upload Wizard. Otherwise Wikipedia considers the image "not free", and its use will be governed by the non-free content criteria, on of which indeed requires such images to be used in articles; drafts are not enough (and there may be other issues precluding use of that image outright).
Once the image is uploaded, the picture tutorial explains how to add it to an article. Huon (talk) 10:58, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I am in the process of editing/improving my article Net Neutrality in India. So kindly hold your reviewing (and save your time!) till I upload the article again.

Thank you,

This seems resolved; the article is currently submitted for review again. Huon (talk) 10:58, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to know the reason of the above mentioned page being deleted. Awaiting your reply. Thanks Nicola frenandes (talk) 09:08, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • As per the note on your talk page, the submission was deleted because it was a copyright violation. You cannot simply copy and paste content from another website, even if you wrote it yourself, unless you can guarantee it is compatible with our free documentation licence, which means you are happy for other people to take your content, reuse it, put it in a book, and sell it. Are there any volunteers who might be able to help me tidy up the in line references on this new article for creation please?

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Phil_Scraton

I've done this as my first new article, but I struggle with the in line refs. I think that I may have done enough to get the article accepted but it could benefit from a reference tidy up

I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to fix them but I just don't seem to get the hang of it (in fact I am at the point of quitting Wikipedia as I am so frustrated at how difficult it has been to get the article (well written IMHO) accepted) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nd1667 (talkcontribs) 21:22, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've tidied up the references with this edit, but at a glance many of them aren't independent sources anyway. Huon (talk) 10:58, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question about reliable references in a unique situation

[edit]

Title of submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ageless Engines

The reviewer ( JSFarman ) was concerned that several of the references in the Ageless Engines submission are based on the company's web site. He wanted more reliable sources. There were many other references to newspapers, magazines, books and other general design or historical information about the company included in the submission. But, there is no place other than the company's web site to show what the company sells and how it is developed.

Ageless Engines is a one-of-a-kind company that designs plans for model radial engines to be built by individual home shop machinists. TNo other company develops and offers plans for this type of engine. The plans, and their resulting engines, are not based on actual prototypes but rather a general design. Therefor it is not possible to cite another source for this development work. The company web site, if printed out, has over 75 pages of technical information. The web site includes four ( 4 ) videos showing the parts being manfactured as well as several completed and running engines built by customers. I cited the company web site as the source for what plans the company offers as well as the development status of future engine plans ( the sleeve valve ).

Can you advise me on how I can improve the reliable sources, given the uniqueness of this company's products. What would be considered a reliable source for this information ? Thanks for any help. By12lisa (talk) 23:33, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If no one but the company itself bothers to write about its unique products, then that information probably isn't all that relevant anyway. I would expect, though, that there are newspaper articles or reviews in modeling magazines that cover the products in some detail. Huon (talk) 10:58, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article does IMHO have sufficient references from independent sources such model engineering magazines. However there is another problem with the references - "see www.agelessengines.com site" is not a proper reference. Please replace all of these with actual links to the specific web page concerned such as http://www.agelessengines.com/sleeve.htm -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:47, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
