Eva Chikabadwa is a sculptor who has been credited with transforming the visual arts in Malawi[1].Born in 1980, she attended University of Malawi, Chancellor College in 1999 where she graduated with Bachelor of Social Science in 2003. She rejoined the college and graduated with art degree in 2008.
She teaches fine arts at Chancellor College, University of Malawi’s main campus.[2][3][4]
Background
[edit]Eva’s father was an agricultural extension worker, tasked with teaching modern agriculture in different districts of Malawi. Moving to many districts across the country, young Eva would enjoy meeting new people and seeing new places.[5]
Eva’s art has been considered controversial. At times, she has been censored out of exhibition halls. A great believer in artistic freedom, she believes the so-called controversial art can uproot evil and transform societies.
