Name of a jokey metal band (not Spinal Tap)

[edit]

This band was relatively recent and pretty popular. I think they were Swedish, but I'm not sure. I'm sorry, this isn't much to go on. Thanks! 96.240.87.162 (talk) 00:31, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure it isn't Raw Sex, but I mention them out of fondness. Perhaps Hard Core Logo? 213.122.21.248 (talk) 00:42, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Lordi ? Nanonic (talk) 05:32, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Could you specify the type of jokeyness? Basically, what made them jokey might help us know who you're looking for. Were they in a work of fiction, like Spinal Tap? Did they play metal covers of main stream songs, like Black Ingvars, or Lillasyster with their Umbrella cover? Were they just a bit more commercial and played music closer to punk rock or even pop, like the Backyard Babies? Were they very commercial and glammy, like The Poodles? [1] has plenty of suggestions, a bit too many to look through. (Sorry about the weird link, but I can't seem to create an internal link to the category listing) /Coffeeshivers (talk) 21:05, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If it's Spinal Tap - like jokeyness, you might be thinking of either Bad News or Leningrad Cowboys, though neither's that recent. Leningrad Cowboys are Finnish, though, which could be why you thought of Sweden. Grutness...wha? 22:40, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm clueless, but you might look through Category:Fictional musical groups, Category:Parody musicians, and List of fictional music groups which even has a subsection on "fictional groups that also existed" (including the "especially odd" case of Milli Vanilli :). ---Sluzzelin talk 01:06, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
SHot in the dark, but could it be Dethklok? While they are not Swedish per se, the two guitarists are Swedish and Norwegian, respectively. They are fairly recent, a metal band, and fictional. --Jayron32 05:03, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I too was thinking of Lordi but the are Finnish they won the Eurovision song contest a few years back. Mo ainm~Talk 21:02, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Right to left they are Andy Garcia, Sean Connary, Kevin Costner but who is the one extreme left ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jon Ascton (talkcontribs) 02:47, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. Got it. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jon Ascton (talkcontribs) 06:19, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help me identify this tune

[edit]

A certain melody keeps bubbling up into my consciousness. I used to think it was something to do with The Velveteen Rabbit, but I no longer think so. I sense vaguely that it is the theme tune to a television show, most likely a children's program, but I can't say anything else about it. I can only recall a snippet, which I worked out on a piano and uploaded. here. I played it badly, a bit too slow, but all the notes are there. If anyone can identify this, I'll be immensely grateful. This has been annoying me for years. LANTZYTALK 13:55, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds to me like a variation on (or rip-off of) Pachelbel's Canon.--Shantavira|feed me 14:30, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can see the similarity, but that's definitely not it. LANTZYTALK 04:25, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's also got a bit of similarity to Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, which is very Pachelbel's Canon-like, but only in a few places. It doesn't sound much more than noodling, if you ask me. But maybe that one can give you another lead. --Jayron32 05:00, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Let me say that I dont know the song that you are looking for, however should you not have found the song yet I recommend this website named Midomi. This website provides the option to 'hum' the song of which you do not know the name, if you are fortunate enough it will find the song you are looking for in its database.Intouchwithbertj (talk) 17:10, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rachmaninov work mentioned in Neighbours

[edit]

In an episode of Neighbours the character Harry Ramsey gave Summer Hoyland a CD of a piece of work by Rachmaninov. Which piece of work was it??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jo75 (talkcontribs) 16:10, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently nobody here knows. You might have better luck contacting the makers of the program, possibly through Channel Ten. Just one thing: a piece of music is called a piece, or a work, but not a "piece of work". That means something rather different, and is usually not meant as a compliment. -- 202.142.129.66 (talk) 22:47, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
