Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

  • SALT (band)  The Salt Collective (currently a redirect back to SALT (band)) (move · discuss) – WP:NAMECHANGES; MOS:ALLCAPS 162 etc. (talk) 06:52, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No problem with downcasing, but not sure about changing to The Salt Collective. From what I can gather, the latter is a collaboration with various others to produce an album, but not clear that it is identical to the original Salt group, or indeed can be said to supersede it...  — Amakuru (talk) 15:38, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on eliminating the all-caps, but if their name remains "Salt" note that there is another band of that name (from Sweden) at Salt (band). ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:44, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to revert undiscussed moves

Contested technical requests

Currently this draft is not yet eligible to be moved to main space. Since this season has already been completed, it should better match the more complete articles of other seasons such as Survivor 47. Also the prose needs to be updated to the present tense. TiggerJay(talk) 01:21, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Aeriuxoy This article has changed names several times including as recent as 2023. This should undergo a full RM to stabilize the article title before the next page move. TiggerJay(talk) 04:43, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Intrisit While these are typically straightforward, given that the target page has been retargeted several times, it would be prudent to perform a full RM discussion before moving this page. TiggerJay(talk) 21:49, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that all other ThinkPad series articles do not have "IBM" in the titles at all: see ThinkPad X series, ThinkPad T series, ThinkPad R series, and several others. This one simply needs to be moved to ThinkPad A series, though that namespace is currently redirected to the omnibus ThinkPad article. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:10, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Doomsdayer520: IBM ThinkPad T20 series and IBM ThinkPad Power Series are counterexamples to that. DigitalIceAge (talk) 16:45, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That merely shows a lack of consistency, so you have discovered a problem that can be cleaned up. Those two can have "IBM" removed as well. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:55, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think the consensus is to remove the manufacturer where possible in such titles. See previous RM at VIC-20. 162 etc. (talk) 17:25, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Unless user:DigitalIceAge objects, I can complete these numerous moves on Feb. 3, to make them all consistent and without the "IBM" in each title. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 19:49, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:TRANSLITERATE, "Names not originally in a Latin alphabet, such as Greek, Chinese, or Russian names, must be romanized." That would apply to the article title, but the literal version can be in the text. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:59, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But 'Qьzьl Armies' is the name in Latin Script. In Cyrillic its 'кызылармеец'. --Soman (talk) 21:00, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My character encoding converter is currently indicating that the second and fourth letters that you just typed here and are using in the article, ь, is actually the soft sign letter in Cyrillic, not the b letter in Latin. If it is suppose to be Latin b, as in Qbzbl Armies, you should also be able to move it there normally. If it really is suppose to be the soft sign ь in Cyrillic, then no such page move. Zzyzx11 (talk) 23:39, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The Common Turkic alphabet does not use "ь". No objection to Qızıl Armies (dotless i), which appears to be the correct romanization. 162 etc. (talk) 00:46, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is not the Cyrillic soft sign, but the I with bowl used in Yañalif Latin script. -- Soman (talk) 09:43, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yañalif is obsolete, and it should not be used in any Wikipedia article titles. 162 etc. (talk) 17:09, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Opala300 You must perform a full RM discussion for this move as you previously boldly moved this page and it was subsequently reverted. Please click the discuss page to being the process. TiggerJay(talk) 00:16, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Assemblies of God  World Assemblies of God Fellowship (currently a redirect back to Assemblies of God) (move · discuss) – On 16 July 2007, Assemblies of God and World Assemblies of God Fellowship were merged. Reason was for disambiguation. This request is to unmerge the two pages for the same reason of disambiguation and accuracy. Once unmerge, this page should be redirected to World Assemblies of God Fellowship. The move cannot be made because the name World Assemblies of God Fellowship already exists in the Wikipedia database. It needs to be unmerged first. There is a contention by another author that Assemblies of God is the common name. However, when the average person says, “Assemblies of God,” they are either referring to the Assemblies of God USA denomination or to people in general who belong to an AG denomination. But this page is not about the USA denomination, nor is it about people in general who belong to an AG denomination. This page is about the global cooperative body of over 170 Pentecostal denominations. It self identifies as World Assemblies of God Fellowship, and it is consistently referred to by others as such (per the references cited on the page). Calling this page Assemblies of God does not meet the precision test for article title. Tinihere (talk) 02:41, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Tinihere Based on your own summary this sounds like a contentious issue, and thus requires discussion on the article talk page. This is exclusively for uncontroversial changes. TiggerJay(talk) 03:04, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
