  • Comment - I hate to be the one to bring this up, but it seems a bit sacrilegious. Like comparing "his" life to Wikipedia, etc. Just might rub some people the wrong way. The quote is beautiful and well linked other than that. PrincessofLlyr royal court 15:37, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
    • Reply ~ Yes, I think the same as you (even if it was not my intention to be sacrilegious but the opposite.) What about using WP:DEV for "his life" ... well probably we will have about the same "sacrilegious" problem. And, a more generic and bland, but still valid: "Happy Easter from MOTD"??? –pjoef (talkcontribs) 16:28, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
      • I didn't think you were trying to be sacrilegious...in fact, outside of a WP context, I really love the quote. The linking itself, in a traditional MOTD style, is fine. It's just that it seems to make light of the occasion. Besides, even if we used this quote, someone would probably be annoyed with the religious reference. The generic "happy easter" may be the best way to go. PrincessofLlyr royal court 19:07, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
  • Oppose - I think that I need to agree with Ms. Llyr in this. I'll see if I can dig up a quote. ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 20:11, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

That's not bad, but the proverb (you know, the parts about the ocean and waves etc) make it a statement rather than an imperative. Kayau Voting IS evil 12:23, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Putting the above through Babelfish, translating from chinese comes up with "Endures to be uneventful for a while, draws back a boundlessness". In Japanese "Patience temporarily wind flat 浪 靜, the retreating/quitting part sea 闊 sky". In Korean "time, department skies". Hope this helps!!!! Simply south...... 15:12, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

recycle Reopened - time, department skies. Simply south...... 00:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

My Chinese is awful, but here's a handful of attempts (varying from accurate translation to accurate sentiment; it's hard to do both and be comprehensible!)

  • Stand strong for a moment and the storm will abate; step back and the sea will mirror the sky.
  • Take a moment's stand and the waves will be quiet; take a step back and the ocean will be calm.
  • A moment's endurance will quiet the storm; a step back will silence the sea.
  • A moment's endurance will bring respite; a step back will bring peace.

Take your pick :) sonia 22:41, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

I personally prefer the third, so... Kayau Voting IS evil 01:07, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

So it is basically saying don't do things irrationally. Think it over? Also, does anyone know what time, department skies means? Good ol. Translations. Difficultly north (talk) 02:07, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Nope, it is saying that one should drop the stick, even when reasoning is on one's side. Something the League of Social Democrats really need to learn. Kayau Voting IS evil 06:56, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Please can someone fix the fotmatting? Also the end part can be alternatively written as "yes, it is!" Difficultly north (talk) 17:06, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

  • Oppose It's nothing personal, but it just seems too hard to interpret what it means for someone who hasn't seen the film. It also just doesn't seem, ermm, motto-y enough. But please don't take this the wrong way.--Yaksar (let's chat) 11:12, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
