Wikipedia:Meetup/WikiCaribbean/Wiki Caribbean Festival 2021
Join us for the Wiki Caribbean Festival: September 26, 2021, Livestreaming from 2:30-5 PM EDT/AST, 18:30-20:00 UTC
#WikiCariFest is a first-of-its-kind, online Wikimedia community celebration of Caribbean cultures, colours, creeds & ideas. Hosted by the Wikimedians of the Caribbean User Group and Wikipedia Weekly, the annual event first started during the COVID-19 Pandemic in September 2020 when most Caribbean carnivals and festivals could not hold their celebrations and parades. This year, we are keeping the vibe going, with the Wiki community as we celebrate and highlight the vibrant culture, history, and peoples of the Caribbean with special guests and more
This year's Wiki Cari Festival (2021) was the most watched event on Wikipedia Weekly when it posted and as of April 2022, is the third most viewed! Check it out here.
The event aims:
- Increasing awareness of various parts of our regional culture and news.
- Sparking greater awareness of the heterogeneity of Caribbean culture and its 30+ million inhabitants.
- Galvanizing community members to improve contributions on Wikipedia Categories, Commons & most importantly, WikiData - in all the region's representative languages.
- This event is part of the Wiki Loves the Caribbean Campaign to identify and help close information gaps on the Caribbean in Wikipedia. #WikiLovesCari
