Stuff to do

[edit]

What would be on the agenda for this meetup, and what sort of time of day? Something like what we had for the one in Birmingham (pub meet during the daytime) would be fine with me, but if anyone has any ideas please tell. - Zeibura (Talk) 17:29, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the Birmingham one was better than the Manchester one in its organisation. I'd also prefer it to be during the day. So, meet for a pub lunch around 1:00 would be a good plan. Majorly (talk) 19:01, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Pub lunch, all day drinking followed by a strip club? I hear Wikipetan is making a guest appearance..... Ryan Postlethwaite 19:27, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think we had some minors among our number in B'ham, and probably will again... maybe we should organise a late-night meetup sometime ;). --Tango (talk) 19:29, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Pub lunch at around 1 sounds good to me. If people want to do anything else after eating, we can, but just sitting around chatting worked well in B'ham. Anyone in Manchester able to suggest a good, cheap pub that does good food and isn't too far from the train station(s)? --Tango (talk) 19:29, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, let me think on this one. There used to be a really good pub (and cheap) called the picadilly tavern which is obviously near the station - standard stuff but each meal comes in three different sizes - we could have a little challenge! Ryan Postlethwaite 19:31, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How long ago were you there? According to the reviews, it looks like there was a change of management in 2006, have you been there since then? --Tango (talk) 20:47, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think it was that long ago but I could be wrong. I know a couple of people that went a couple of months ago and I'll ask them what it was like. Ryan Postlethwaite 20:50, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I love the sound of Ryan's pub! Pi
*wonders why Pi's signature doesn't have a timestamp* Yeah, Ryan's pub is good. A link would be nice, so it can be found... Majorly (talk) 19:53, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(reset) Actually, better not. Strict no trainers door policy? Majorly (talk) 20:33, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not last time I went, I presume that means at night. Ryan Postlethwaite 20:36, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oooooh, pub grub, yum! I hope they have chocolate fudge cake. Merkinsmum 21:02, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you don't mind me joining in: I only just found out about this meetup, thanks to the wikipediauk-l mailing list that I just joined...
A couple of suggestions for other pubs: Kro Piccadilly (I haven't tried that one, but I know that Kro Bar's pretty good), or Wetherspoons (again, I haven't tried that one specifically, but Wetherspoons is normally good). Mike Peel (talk) 22:31, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've been in the Kro Bar; if it was that one, it was a nice place, but short on quieter corners for a chat. Warofdreams talk 23:32, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Wetherspoons one looks good. We'd need it to be quieter so we could hear each other. Majorly (talk) 00:37, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whetherspoons food is excellent for my budget and good too:) and of course no music there- I like some rubbish music sometimes though, so I'm flexible about where we go (though poor.) Someone local could see what pubs have a budget deal type thing for lunches on a saturday. I'm thinking steak, anyway:) or maybe fish and chips.Merkinsmum 00:13, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Weatherspoons' fish and chips proved very popular in B'ham - I think about 80% of the people at the meetup had it! --Tango (talk) 01:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I should be able to attend that, will book train tickets as soon as we sort out times. --Astral (talk) 23:12, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What did you chat about- wikipedia?

[edit]

Did you chat about wiki much at the last meet, or was it just banter? Just curious. Does anyone want to mail each other and/or swap msn etc. messenger addys, so we can get to know one another a bit before meeting up? Merkinsmum 21:02, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Last time wikipedia was the primary topic of conversation although it was not exclusivel so.Pi 21:15, 6 January 2008 (UTC) (Timestamp back)[reply]
I have Ryan's and Steel's already... :) If you look here, my msn is there if you want to add me. We talked about Wikipedia mostly, iirc... such as RFAs, what stuff we edit, what we hate, what we like, different proposals (e.g. we could talk about proposal for rollback this time if anyone cares...) Also, there's Wikimania... Majorly (talk) 21:17, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it was mainly Wikipedia. We talked about Wiktionary a bit. A small about of generally geek chat as well, but we pretty much stuck to Wikimedia related topics. --Tango (talk) 21:30, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been to a few meet-ups; they generally start off with chat about Wikipedia, and then if they get going, spiral off in every which direction. Before almost everyone heads home and the last handful of us end up going on a pub crawl. Warofdreams talk 23:34, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

what time shall we meet?

[edit]

about 2pm? Merkinsmum 00:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1pm would be better, I think. Majorly (talk) 00:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree 1pm sounds like a good plan. - Zeibura (Talk) 00:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, 1pm is good. 2pm would be a little late to eat, and people are unlikely to eat before arriving, since many of us have quite long journeys. --Tango (talk) 01:11, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with 1pm PiTalk - Contribs 16:48, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IRC it up; I'll be there ;) dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 10:22, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
O RLY? Sweet. Majorly (talk) 14:24, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...1pm UTC = 11pm here. I dunno if I can be bothered. It is only you guys. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 22:51, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Shame. If you were coming DHMO I'd cancel my business appointment and come along. After all I'm sure I can get some work elsewhere to fund User:Embryo of Pedro due in August ...... :) Pedro :  Chat  23:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

how are you all doing?/up for it?

[edit]

I just bought my train tickets at a station and they still weren't all that expensive. Have the rest of you got tickets? I'm only coming for a few hours though, so hope our food comes fast lol Merkinsmum 00:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking forward to it... haven't booked anything though (I don't live that far away). Majorly (talk) 11:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll turn up this time, but I've been out of the Wikipedian loop for a while - what fun arguments/new proposals should I read up on before coming? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 12:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Read WP:ANI that has all the gossip and drama lol, I keep meaning to read people who are coming's contribs, just looking at their userpage to see what their interested in, or talk page, would probably be more fun and give something to chat about though. Also I need to check how to get to the pub. Looking forward to it...at least the food lol :) Merkinsmum 17:58, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

[edit]

Just double checking which pub we're meeting at? Special Random (Merkinsmum) 19:15, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the top of this page - "The Manchester & County". WjBscribe 19:24, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's the wetherspoons. Thanks, I was just panicking lol Special Random (Merkinsmum) 19:36, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

mobile numbers

[edit]

Anyone want to swap mobile numbers in case any of us gets lost or has any other problems getting there? I mean don't if you don't want to, but if you do, mail each other with them, I have email enabled. Special Random (Merkinsmum) 20:06, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid chaps that I must drop out, as I have a list of urgent stuff to do that I was hoping to fit in before getting on a train, but it would seem that I can't, which sucks. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 05:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shame you couldn't make it- hope you can make it to a meet soon. :) Special Random (Merkinsmum) 19:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hello boys

[edit]

Hi to all who came, hope you had a good time, maybe some of you are still drinking lol:) I enjoyed it, and left before I got toooo plastered lol (well, more plastered.) Hope Ryan's trousers dried out ok :) :) Special Random (Merkinsmum) 19:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was nice to meet you! And everyone else, so I can put faces to the names. I regret I couldn't drink more due to the meds I'm on (and the kerfuffle with that damn barmaid... gah!) --Deskana (talk) 00:25, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
what happened lol, did she take ages to get round to stuff? I can't drink much, I fall asleep or make a tw*t of myself, good job I planned my train for just the right time, before I knocked cider over more people lol :) Special Random (Merkinsmum) 00:42, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. I went up to the bar and tried to order for me and Will, and she ID'd me and I hadn't brought my passport. So I went back to Will and gave him the money and asked him to get me a coke, and she said he can't buy drinks for me so we had to leave! I just ran back to mine (I live in the city) and got my passport so I could tell them to get lost if they tried it again! I'm sure you can drink more than me... these meds I'm on make me really ill and sleepy when I drink, and I just couldn't resist it. I regret it now! --Deskana (talk) 01:08, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I cancelled at the last minute - I did the same thing with the Birmingham one. Next time, I'm writing it on my calendar straight away. Neıl 21:54, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
