Cardiff's FA Cup squad in January 1921

Cardiff City F.C.'s 1920–21 season was the 20th season of competitive football for the club and their first in the Football League, having been voted into the Second Division. They finished the season tied on points with Birmingham, who were champions on goal average; both teams were promoted to the First Division. Cardiff reached the semi-final of the FA Cup, defeating First Division sides Sunderland and Chelsea. They were knocked out by Second Division Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the Welsh Cup, Cardiff, the holders, were beaten by Pontypridd after a fixture clash forced them to field a reserve side. Cardiff fielded 29 players in 1920–21, Billy Hardy playing in the most games. New signing Jimmy Gill was the club's top goalscorer with 20 goals in all competitions. The club's average home attendance at Ninian Park was more than 28,000; two home league matches recorded attendances of 42,000, and the FA Cup tie against Chelsea attracted 50,000. (Full article...)

539 BC – Cyrus the Great captured Babylon, incorporating the Neo-Babylonian Empire and making the Achaemenid Empire the largest in history at that time.
1792 – William Robert Broughton, a member of George Vancouver's expedition, observed a peak in the present-day U.S. state of Oregon and named it Mount Hood after British admiral Samuel Hood.
1948 – Arab–Israeli War: The Israel Defense Forces massacred at least 52 villagers while capturing the Palestinian Arab village of Safsaf.

Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary

As of 2021, Vietnam has eight sites inscribed on the list of World Heritage Sites, and a further seven on the tentative list. Selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Heritage Sites are places of importance to cultural or natural heritage as described in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, established in 1972. Vietnam accepted the convention on 19 October 1987, making its historical sites eligible for inclusion on the list. The first site in the country to be added to the list was the Complex of Huế Monuments in 1993. Two cultural sites from Quảng Nam were listed in 1999: Hội An Ancient Town and Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary (pictured). Further sites were added in 1994, 2003, 2010, and 2016, when Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex was inscribed as the first mixed site in Southeast Asia. (Full list...)

The marsh fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) is a species of butterfly of the family Nymphalidae, found in the Palearctic region. Females are larger and less vibrant in color than males. Due to their short lifespan, females mate soon after they emerge from the chrysalis. They bear so many eggs that they crawl to nearby vegetation to start laying them, being unable to fly far until they are less burdened. These two marsh fritillaries were photographed in Dorset, England, while mating; the male is on the left of the image and the female on the right.
