Jacques Anquetil

The 1962 Tour de France was the 49th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The 4,274-kilometre (2,656 mi) race consisted of 22 stages, including two split stages, starting in Nancy on 24 June and finishing at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 15 July. For the first time since 1929, the Tour was contested by trade teams instead of national teams. Victory in the individual time trial of stage 20 put Jacques Anquetil (pictured) in the general classification leader's yellow jersey, which he held until the conclusion of the race to win his third Tour de France, defending his title. Jef Planckaert placed second, and Raymond Poulidor third. In the other race classifications, Rudi Altig won the points classification, and Federico Bahamontes won the mountains classification. Anquetil's team Saint-Raphaël–Helyett–Hutchinson won the team classification, and Eddy Pauwels won the award for most combative rider. Altig and Emile Daems won the most stages, with three each. 1856 – U.S. representative Preston Brooks attacked Senator Charles Sumner in retaliation for a speech in which Sumner fiercely criticized slaveholders.

The Triple Gold Club is the group of ice hockey players and coaches who have won an Olympic Games gold medal, a World Championship gold medal, and the Stanley Cup, the championship trophy of the National Hockey League. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) considers them to be "the three most important championships available to the sport". Tomas Jonsson, Mats Näslund and Håkan Loob became the first members on 27 February 1994, when Sweden won the gold medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics. The term first entered popular use following the 2002 Winter Olympics, which saw the addition of the first Canadian members. On 8 May 2007, the IIHF that announced it would formalize the club and recognize the players who had won the three championships. There are 29 player members of the Triple Gold Club – eleven Canadians, nine Swedes, seven Russians, and two Czechs. Eleven of the players are defencemen and the remaining players are forwards; to date, no goaltender has achieved the honor. (Full list...)

The Tête à Tête is the second of a series of six oil-on-canvas paintings by English painter and pictorial satirist William Hogarth, created around 1743. The series, entitled Marriage A-la-Mode, depicts an arranged marriage and its disastrous consequences in a satire of 18th-century society, and is now in the collection of the National Gallery in London.

In this picture, the couple are shown shortly after their wedding, and there are signs that the marriage has already begun to break down. The husband and wife appear uninterested in one another, amidst evidence of their separate dalliances the previous night. A small dog finds a lady's cap in the husband's coat pocket, indicating his adultery. A broken sword at his feet shows that he has been in a fight. The posture of the wife also indicates unfaithfulness; as Hogarth once noted: "A lock of hair falling thus cross the temples ... has an effect too alluring to be strictly decent, as is very well known to the loose and lowest class of women". The disarray of the room and the servant holding a stack of unpaid bills show that the affairs of the household are in a mess.
