From today's featured articleGod of War: Ghost of Sparta is a third-person action-adventure video game for the PlayStation Portable, first released on November 2, 2010. Loosely based on Greek mythology, it is the sixth installment in the God of War series and the fourth chronologically. The player controls Kratos, a Spartan warrior who became the God of War. Haunted by visions of his mortal past, he journeys to the Domain of Death to rescue his brother Deimos, then teams up with him to battle the God of Death, Thanatos. The gameplay focuses on combo-based combat and includes quick time events that require the player to complete game controller actions in a timed sequence to defeat stronger enemies. The game also features magical attacks, puzzles, and platforming elements. Critics praised its story, gameplay, and graphics, and the game won awards at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo and the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards. By June 2012, it had sold nearly 1.2 million copies worldwide. A remastered version was released for the PlayStation 3, included in the 2011 and 2012 God of War video game collections. The John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer is an award given annually to the best new writer whose first professional work of science fiction or fantasy was published within the two previous calendar years. The prize is named in honor of science fiction editor and writer John W. Campbell, whose science fiction writing and role as editor of Analog Science Fiction and Fact made him one of the most influential editors in the early history of science fiction. The nomination and selection process is administered by the World Science Fiction Society represented by the current Worldcon committee, and the award is presented at the Hugo Award ceremony at the Worldcon, although it is not itself a Hugo Award. Over the 46 years the award has been active, 195 writers have been nominated. Of these, 47 authors have won, including one tie. There have been 51 writers who were nominated twice, 17 of whom won the award in their second nomination. (Full list...)

Banknotes of the Australian pound were first issued by numerous private banks in Australia, starting with the Bank of New South Wales in 1817. Acceptance of private bank notes was not made compulsory by legal tender laws but they were widely used and accepted. The Queensland government issued treasury notes (1866–1869) and banknotes (1893–1910) which were legal tender in Queensland. The New South Wales government issued a limited series of Treasury Notes in 1893. The Commonwealth government passed an Act in 1910 which prohibited the issue of banknotes by private banks, and established Commonwealth powers to issue, re-issue, and cancel Australian notes. These notes were initially issued by the Australian Treasury, and then by the Commonwealth Bank from 1920. The Australian pound was replaced by the Australian dollar in 1966. This note, denominated five pounds, is part of the 1918 series.
