Clarity on why my article is rejected

[edit]

My article draft is https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Self_Insert and someone said that my article fails musician notability guidelines. I am confused because rule 1 of those guidelines states "Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself", and I have found two reliable secondary sources on this band both with notable mention. Do I need more than 2 sources or are my existing sources bad? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimfish000 (talkcontribs) 04:05, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jimfish000: I see you posted the same question at the Teahouse 14 minutes after this post. When you have a question, please post at the Help desk or the Teahouse, but not both. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 05:06, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jimfish000: There aren’t enough sources to demonstrate notability. There are only two, and one is about the album. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 05:34, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References 5 and 30 are the same source - can you please do that "double up" thing in the references - I cannot. Please check ref number 32 as well. Thanks 115.70.23.77 (talk) 04:09, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure you can! Read the instructions at WP:NAMEDREFS and look at reference #1 in the same article as an example. GoingBatty (talk) 04:23, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Got it - thanks for your support115.70.23.77 (talk) 04:37, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it is ref. numbers 5 and 31 that are the same source - and unfortunately it didn't work - but never mind! Thanks for trying to help me115.70.23.77 (talk) 04:39, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I made the change in this edit. I hope you see how it works now. I also restored my previous post - please don't delete other people's posts. GoingBatty (talk) 05:03, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj

[edit]

Over the course of his life, Shivaji engaged in both alliances and hostilities with the Mughal Empire, the Sultanate of Golkonda and the Sultanate of Bijapur, as well as with European colonial powers. Shivaji's military forces expanded the Maratha sphere of influence, capturing and building forts, and forming a Maratha navy. Shivaji established a competent and progressive civil rule with well-structured administrative organisations. He revived ancient Hindu political traditions, court conventions and promoted the usage of the Marathi and Sanskrit languages, replacing Persian in court and administration — Preceding unsigned comment added by 7Parth Patil (talkcontribs) 04:16, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@7Parth Patil: Hi there! If you have a suggestion about the Shivaji article, you may post it on the article's talk page: Talk:Shivaji (preferably with a reliable source and a detailed explanation of your suggestion). Hope this helps, and happy editing! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Portal:Astronomy goes out of bounds in windowed

[edit]

The portal is not flex which makes it to go out of bounds when in windowed. GoldRoger487 (talk) 09:48, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GoldRoger487: Hi there! Do you mean that when you view the portal in a small window, the view is so wide that a horizontal scroll bar is displayed? If this is an issue unique to Portal:Astronomy, I suggest you post to Portal talk:Astronomy. If you have the same issue with all portals, I suggest you post to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Portals. GoingBatty (talk) 14:52, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The issue was posted on the talk page.

Hi everybody, I don't know if I'm in the right place for my question, but anyway... The list of above baronets names James William (born 1987) as 8th baronet, but his uncle, 7th baronet Charles (born 1950) seems to be still alive, as well as his heir presumptive, his brother William Jeremy (born 1953), father of James. Can anybody check these infos and modify the article in one or in the other way ? Thanks from a french user Jagellon (talk) 10:27, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jagellon, the inconsistency was introduced by an IP editor earlier this month, so I have reverted their edits. TSventon (talk) 11:52, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for reacting so quickly :) Jagellon (talk) 12:02, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I was the user that updated the Stuart-Menteth page, as I am part of the family, James Stuart-Menteth is my farther and sir Charles Granville Stuart-menteth is my grandfather, and yes he is alive! We had a conversation and noticed it needed to be updated, sorry for the inconvenience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.92.97.239 (talk) 23:07, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for wanting to help improve Wikipedia, IP user, but in future please don't directly edit articles about your own family: instead please make an edit request, preferably citing a reliable published source for any information you want to add. See WP:PSCOI. --ColinFine (talk) 13:12, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Refrigerator

[edit]

We purchased a Kenmore Elite refrig from Sears in Aug 2016. In July 2021 the frig quit cooling and freezing. We called Sears support and they sent out tech and eventual replaced the compressor which had a 10 yr warranty. Tech said they had a known issue with that compressor. It did not fix the issue. Another call out, the tech replaced system board. Said it was not communicating correctly. Didn’t solve, then came back and updated the software. Didn’t solve, said that’s all he can do. Have called Sears helpline and tried to escalate, won’t call. We have paid approx $594 for tech service with no fix. Have talked with Sears dealer they won’t do anything.

This is a short summary how is the best way to escalate this information out to public??

@Oklaaggie: Wikipedia has nothing to do with Sears, and we cannot help you here. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 15:08, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections to Richard Coke page

[edit]

I am working with descendants of Richard Coke, former governor of Texas. Earlier this week, I made several edits to his Wikipedia page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Richard_Coke) that corrected slanderous statements and incorrect opinions and brought them in line with historical records. These corrections have not been updated in Wikipedia. For example, the statement is made that his becoming governor returned white supremacist rule to Texas. Even the Texas Historical Commission publication on African Americans in Texas states that this marked the end the Reconstruction in Texas. (https://www.thc.texas.gov/public/upload/African-Americans-in-Texas-2021.pdf page 11). Additionally, I removed the comment about the decline in African American voters. Governor Coke's term as governor ended in 1876. The statistics quoted are for the time period starting 1890, well after Richard Coke ceased being governor. Other edits were made to correct information to relevant historical records, which were noted in the edits.

Please advise the status of these corrections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CarlaKDallas (talkcontribs) 15:11, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CarlaKDallas Please direct your comments to the article talk page, Talk:Richard Coke. Your edit to the article was removed because it removed existing sources and replaced them with Wikipedia links-Wikipedia articles cannot cite other Wikipedia articles. 331dot (talk) 16:06, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I added your comments and also a paid notice/declaration Talk:Richard Coke#Corrections to Richard Coke_page. You shouldn't edit the article directly, but instead provide suggested edits. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 08:44, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can i create a Wikipdia page for a company/ Film Production Company? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AhmdAsjad (talkcontribs) 16:14, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@AhmdAsjad: Yes, if the company passes the requirements at WP:NCORP. If it does, then check out WP:YFA and it has the steps to create a draft article for review. If you are new, this is not an easy task, so the usual advice is to work on improving existing articles for awhile until you have experience with Wikipedia. RudolfRed (talk) 16:24, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AhmdAsjad: If you don't have experience with editing Wikipedia, I suggest you start with Help:Introduction and The Wikipedia Adventure to learn how to edit. GoingBatty (talk) 16:28, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AhmdAsjad: If the company does not meet our notability requirements, any attempt to create the article will be a futile waste of time because we will delete your work. Really. We delete about 200 articles every day, so please make sure you can defend a claim of notability as we define the term. If you can, then we can help you. -Arch dude (talk) 16:36, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blanking my own talk page

[edit]

I'm trying to blank my own talk page on another wiki, but a few are reverting those edits. Is there a reason to keep those around when the history page can offer a preview ? GoldRoger487 (talk) 18:06, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GoldRoger487: Every wiki has their own rules, so you'll have to ask at that wiki. For the rules at the English Wikipedia, see WP:OWNTALK. GoingBatty (talk) 18:09, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the timely response. GoldRoger487 (talk) 22:58, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Local Government Climate Action in Australia

[edit]

Hello,

Can a section describing climate action (eg policy summary, net zero target/s, types of actions taken and planned, names of local climate action groups etc) be added to each existing Wiki page for each local government authority in Australia ? If so, then I would be willing to co-ordinate an effort to find volunteers across Australia willing to write and add such a section to each Wiki page for each of Australia's 562 local government authorities.

I look forward to hearing from you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterHavord (talkcontribs) 19:27, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PeterHavord: Hi there! You may wish to ask at Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board, and provide an example. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:29, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism help request from Wikiusername57564

[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at Haseki Sultan Complex. Namely, the link "A Historical Look to Educational Buildings: Istanbul Haseki Kulliye Madrasah, Mitademo" links to a cheap online casino and not an academic article. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, Wikiusername57564 (talk) 21:26, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikiusername57564: I highly doubt it's vandalism, but it seems the domain has been usurped. I've added {{dead link}} to the link; hopefully there's an archived screenshot of the site. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:30, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
