[edit]Viewing point maps
[edit]There is a type of map displaying points where the points seem to be strangely embedded into the page. Hovering the points gives a small tooltip with the name of the point but this is impossible to see the different points when many of them are stacked into a small area.
Is it possible to get a larger version of or zoom in to these types of maps? Clicking the map just brings up the base map without the points and zooming in to the page through the browser does not affect the points.
I have seen these types of maps mainly on French Wikipedia though they likely exist on other versions too. How are these maps created and where is the point data coming from? Is it possible to pull up a zoom-able map with these points or to download them?

- @Busmargali: The page you linked is on the french Wikipedia, which is a seperate project. These maps are created by using a svg map of french and later generating the hover points with CSS, which makes then unable to be zoomed. However, here on the english Wikipedia we have a zoomable alternative based on OpenStreetMap, see Wikipedia:Maps_for_Wikipedia and

Is there a way to get my password if Email was wiped to my account, but I have proof of my account from a previous email before I switched emails
[edit]The email is wiped without my intent (it was the email service itself) but I have a single wikipedia email from wikipedia sent to me about my account referring to it about whatever it is that I had to my account previously before. Is there a way I can contact an admin and just forward this wikipedia email from the active email as proof that this is indeed me and my account in order to revert my account to that active email?--2600:1700:4000:62E0:FD5F:D6A1:8447:13DB (talk) 06:35, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Most likely not, i am afraid. If you no longer have access to the email account used on Wikipedia, you only can register a new account with a new username. The sole exception to this would be if the old account had Steward, Oversight or a similar high-profile user right. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:08, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

- This looks to be Wikipedia:Userboxitis, which isn't sanction-able. Feel free to take their userpage to MfD if you'd like to cause them some minor annoyance for no benefit. Elli (talk | contribs) 09:44, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- The harm to the project is cluttering up 252 categories with another entry. What if a thousand people decided to do that? That's the problem with spam. If it was done once it would be OK. If it is done hundreds of times it becomes spam instead of just being promotional. --Guy Macon (talk) 23:06, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

New Pages/Links
[edit]Dear Sir/Madam,
I noticed that we publish a number of Regional and National Catholic Newspapers in the UK - some that we own, and others that we publish on behalf of other people. I am aware that you have lists of papers and pages of information for most UK newspapers but we've not added any information about our papers. I started add them all to Wikipedia, but I got the following message: It appears you are adding external links to many different Wikipedia pages in rapid succession. This is often a sign of people spamming Wikipedia... I was intending to add the links as that was a quick job - and then add a page of information for each publication (you already have one of our publications on the wikipedia - https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Catholic_Voice_of_Lancaster - so I was going to add something similar for each one). I don't want to violate any of the rules regarding adding information so I thought it was best to check with you first before making any more updates.
Should I carry on with creating a page for each publication or should I stop?

- Hello, Nick. Wikipedia does not contain, and is not intended to contain, everything, but only things that meet its criteria of notability - roughly, that enough has been published about the subject in reliable sources that are totally independent of the subject to base an article on. For this reason, most list articles contain only entries that are notable - entries that are, or could be, the subject of independent Wikipedia articles. The article Catholic Voice of Lancaster, though it has been around for twelve years, is seriously deficient in not citing any sources, and unless somebody does find and add some suitable sources (remember, they have to be written and published completely independently of the subject) then that article is likely to get deleted, and will then get removed from List of newspapers in the United Kingdom. If any of your publications meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then somebody could write articles about them - preferably not you, because of your conflict of interest, but you are not forbidden to try, provided you make the necessary declarations as a WP:paid editor. But otherwise, no, Wikipedia will not take note of them. External links in Wikipedia articles are strictly controlled (according to the policy in EL), and in any case, adding links to a website you are associated with is regarded as a Conflit of Interest. - @Gronk Oz: Go to your user page, click on the link at the left side of the page marked "What links here". Then go down the list and see what Wikiprojects have your user name linked from them. "This article incorporates information from the corresponding article in the French Wikipedia."
[edit]Is there a template that could be used to add the text "This article incorporates information from the corresponding article in the French Wikipedia." and similar. I see templates for other Wikipedia:Wikimedia sister projects but not other language wikipedias. I'd like to replace the improper hatnote at Jacques Dufilho and other pages. - I agree, we shouldn't be citing other language Wikipedias. If it's a translation (which it looks like it is), then Template:Translated should be added to the talkpage, not the article itself. We definitely shouldn't be assuming that unsourced information is correct because it's on another language Wikipedia, which is what that hatnote is trying to do. Article for April 7 date
[edit]I was reading the article for the April 7 date ... located here ---> April 7. I wanted to make an edit to the introductory paragraph. When I hit the "Edit" button, there was really nothing to edit. It just listed a bunch of templates. So, I imagine that the entire template itself needs to be edited ... and that said edit would subsequently appear in all "date"-type of articles (not just the April 7 article). So, my question: what Talk Page do I need to go to? Here? Or somewhere else? This is my specific edit / question. The article states: 268 days remain until the end of the year.. I thought that sentences are not supposed to start with numbers. So, it would have to be re-worded to something like: A total of 268 days remain until the end of the year. (or some such wording). (Am I correct about that rule of grammar?) What needs to be done? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:19, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- I suspect this issue will affect the other 365 day of the year articles. You are correct that sentences should almost never start with figures. My suggestion would be to replace the full stop at the end of the first sentence with a semicolon. Mjroots (talk) 15:33, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks. I can't make heads or tails out of that template page article ... {{Day}}. I don't see anywhere, where there is some sort of text that states "X number of days remain until the end of the year". (And, thus, said text would be edit-able, I imagine?) - It reads the day from the page name so the display is disabled at top of Template:Day where it would make a bunch of meaningless error messages. I have added an example display to Template:Day#Usage. On preview it displays what the previewed version would display. You can ask for input at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Days of the year. Images not showing on some election infoboxes
[edit]I was creating an article for the 1949 New York City mayoral election using the infobox from the 1945 New York City mayoral election, but when I did this, I noticed that the middle images do not show in these infoboxes, despite being there in the source. No response to edit proposals on edit restricted articles - next step?
[edit]Hi, a question for the Ediquette Team: I'm an unregistered IP, and there are pages I can't edit. Unless it's typos, I always declare on the talk page first anyway, but sometimes that's all that happens. Does it occur that some 'inedible' article is forgotten, more or less? I feel it would be inappropriate/fruitless to go "HEY GUYS!" on the talk page, so is there some other, established chain-of-command procedure to follow? - I think I understand the question to be, what happens if you want to suggest a change to a semi-protected page, and no one answers your comment on the article talk page? You can use the {{Edit semi-protected}} template, which puts your question in a category that helpful editors patrol. I'm not guaranteeing the response is quick - I haven't used it and don't really know the backlog time - but at least you're in the queue. Is there a user page template for not being able to edit due to being in China and having spotty internet?
[edit]I discovered the numerous WikiBreak templates today and decided to put one on my user page due to high school. Since I plan on going to China for university, and the VPN connections are spotty there, I plan on having another notice on my user page later this year. Is there a template for "this person will have limited access to Wikipedia due to being in China and having restricted Internet" or something like that?
