@Dragonlover21: I'm not sure what you mean by notifications and clear. If it's about the two icons to the right of your username at top of pages then click one of them and click "All notifications" at the bottom to reach Special:Notifications. If you have unread notifications then there should be an option to mark them as read. Some users have reported it doesn't work for them. It works for me. You can mark individual notifications as read by clicking the blue circle to the right of them. This also works after you only click the icons and not "All notifications". Creating a new category

Hello! Is there a central place to discuss/propose the creation of new categories? I am thinking we should have one for Inuit artists. We have "category:artists from Nunavut", which is close but not the same.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:16, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Islam and slavery

Some editor misleading information about Islam. This editors are non-muslim and it is their hate against Islam that makes it appears that Islam permits evil doing in their writing. If you have a comment on the article Islam, please make it in the page Talk:Islam. I should warn you that it is a very bad idea to declare that other writers do or do not adhere to any religion (or political belief, etc); and, unless you provide extremely convincing evidence, it's worse to declare that they have, or are motivated by, hatred of the subject about which they are writing. -- Hoary (talk) 03:32, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Fuad ashraf academia n: We do not in general try to assess an editor's biases or hatreds. Instead you and other editors are supposed to assess whether or not assertions are verifiable. Referring to an artist that keeps changing stage name

I recently created Ichigo Rinahamu, who previously went as two names: Yokoyama Rina when she was a member of BiS, and Rinahmu when she was a member of Akishibu Project. When writing about her career during those two periods, should I refer to her as Ichigo Rinahamu (by far WP:COMMONNAME), or by her stage name during that time?   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 05:23, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't claim to know. "Yokoyama Rina" (or as en:WP would normally put it, "Rina Yokoyama") looks like a real Japanese name and, alone among the three, might be her actual name (though it probably isn't). "Ichigo Rinahamu" has seven syllables, three more than "Yokoyama". Incidentally, I struggle to detect her notability. -- Hoary (talk) 05:58, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For pro wrestlers, we typically use the contemporary name when discussing each stint. Whether J-pop idols are essentially joshi puro idols who sing is debatable. But they're not very different, all things considered. InedibleHulk (talk) 06:55, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive and stalker

The editor trying to advise you on your Talk page has a long standing on Wikipedia and a very good reputation. Help with large charts

Hi, anyone who knows well Wikipedia markup for charts can help on how to draw the large charts in the Spanish article on COVID-19? I would like to avoid the horizontal scroll bar in the number of new cases, active cases, recoveries, and deaths. -- ChaTo (talk) 10:30, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ChaTo: Well, there does have to be a scroll bar, either on the individual charts, or on the page as a whole, because there is too much data to fit (at least in the current form, with readable individual day counts and labels). I'd suggest discussing it at Talk:COVID-19 pandemic in Spain and, if you get consensus without the actual code solution, getting technical help at Template talk:Graph:Chart (or WP:VPT if you don't get help after a couple of days). —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 01:17, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a non- profit organisation profile on WIkipedia

@Christine Alfons: We don't have profiles, we have articles that summarize multiple professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources on the subject.
If you work with or for the non-profit, you need to disclose your conflict of interest (see the instructions at WP:COI).

Pages are misplaced in a category page

Hello, in Category:Lists of libraries by country the page "List of libraries in Mexico" is under the letter "I" and the page "List of libraries in Israel" is under the letter "L". How can it be fixed? thank you --DoritG (talk) 13:26, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DoritG: I fixed the category sorting with these two edits. Note that the "... in Mexico" page had the sortkey (the bit after the pipe) set to "in Mexico" rather than just "Mexico", causing it to be sorted under "I" rather than "M", and the "... in Israel" page had no sortkey at all, so that it was sorted under the first word of its title ("Lists"). Hello, Real Augustin. Unfortunately, the construction "How do [x] be searched . . ." is not grammatical English, and while English speakers are usually quite tolerant of mistakes if, despite them, the meaning is obvious, in this case it's difficult to be sure about what you are actually asking (I can think of two different things you might mean). Can you either (a) consult someone with more experience in the language and have them re-word the question or (b) go into more detail about what you want to do?
If you are referring to an article in Wikipedia that does already exist, can you please give its exact title, as this might help us to give a useful answer. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.24.23 (talk) 13:57, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could you be more specific as to the issue? I see that you're using {{sfn}} and {{reflist}}, and don't see anything wrong there, although I don't like the section name Nature religion#Footnotes when the only footnotes are {{sfn}} citations. Certainly if you ever add any true footnotes they should not show up under references.
In the bibliograohy your use of {{refbegin}}, {{cite}} and {{refend}} also seems normal.

The short-cite Albanese 1991 doesn't link to its full-cite because {{sfn|Albanese|1991|pp=7–8}} is expecting to link to a CITEREFAlbanese1991 anchor ID. But, the full-cite overrides the automatic anchor ID creation because it has |ref=Alb91.
All of the other short-cites work because they are constructed like this:
<ref name="Beyer 1998 11">[[#Bey98|Beyer 1998]]. p. 11.</ref>
Solution? Make the Albanese 1991 short-cite like Beyer 1998 or make all of the short-cites like Albanese 1991 ({{sfn}}).
Albanese 2002 is listed in §Bibliography but not linked from the article or from §Footnotes.

Trappist the monk, Thanks; I generally use the references where the citation specs are in the body and not this older form where they are divided. As such, I want to clean up the things you identified, though am not sure exactly how to do it . . . is there a script to help with those issues or is it something that is manually done in the code editor? Why would you describe short-cite / long-cite as an older form. Parenthetical / Harvard / ... referencing have been around for a while but those styles are currently practiced at en.wiki quite a bit. We have good template support for this form of citation and various scripts to help ensure that everything is working as it should do. The cs1|2 templates automatically create anchor IDs that match the anchor links created by {{sfn}} and the several templates in the {{harv}} family of templates.
Without you first achieve consensus to do so per WP:CITEVAR, changing the citation style at Nature religion should not be done. You can likely get away with changing the underlying markup because that kind of a change doesn't change how the article renders for the reader. For example, you can (I think you should) change this form:
<ref name="Beyer 1998 11">[[#Bey98|Beyer 1998]]. p. 11.</ref>
to this form:
{{sfn|Beyer|1998|p=11}} – requires removing |ref=Bey98 from the long-form citation (of course there is a work-around for that if you think it more important for some reason to retain |ref=Bey98)

Help Needed in Removing a photo file

After uploading a photo, which I purchased for editorial purposes, without the necessary info to indicate that I obtained it legally due to some error in the info going with the upload... I've received this on my User page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:JBJblaze#Speedy_deletion_nomination_of_File%3AJodie_Comer_at_The_BAFTA_Los_Angeles_Tea_Party_2020.jpg). I've already decided to delete it but have no idea exactly how. May I please have assistance on this matter? @JBJblaze: When you "purchase" a commercial photo, you are actually purchasing the right to use a copyrighted photo under the terms of a specific copyright license. This does not give you the right to re-license the image under a different copyright license. To upload an image to Commons, we require the use of the CC-BY-SA license. You do not have the right to re-license that image to us under this license. The copyright for a photo belongs to the photographer. (If a photo includes an image of a copyrighted work, then the photo is a "derived work" and the copyright on the included work is still in force also.) -Arch dude (talk) 18:49, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How does one then go about uploading a portrait of a celebrity, or is that, as I've suspected, done by only specific occupational people? I didn't realize that uploading her photo was then re-licensing it but that's understandable, though disappointing. --JBJblaze (talk)
Generally, we get somebody to take a photo which they are then willing to license to Wikipedia under our terms. For example, a number of the photos of science fiction figures (both pro and fan) in Wikipedia were taken by a small group of fan-photographers who have done so specifically so these photos could be made available to the wider community through the Wikimedia Commons. We encourage professional and amateur photographers alike to attend events and explore institutions at which photographs of subjects can be taken, which can then be used here, from wildlife to punk bands to minerals. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:52, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JBJblaze: If the celebrity has a fan website/forum, you may be able to ask if a fan already has such a photo. Make SURE the fan is really the actual photographer and knows that the photo will be licensed CC-BY-SA. We can then help the photographer through the upload process. The celeb's agent may notice and get a pro picture licensed properly for you in self defense, but be prepared to help the agent through the licensing learning curve.
