Vandalism of Thomas Tallis article

[edit]

I am new to edits on this site (just created account for this purpose) so please forgive me if this is the wrong page to post on this, but I looked at the article on Thomas Tallis https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Thomas_Tallis and it appears to have been the victim of schoolboy trolling, what would be the proper avenue to get it fixed? Shynbald (talk) 00:04, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shynbald. If you don't know how to fix the vandalism yourself then reporting it here is fine and appreciated. I've fixed the problems. --NeilN talk to me 00:07, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My Wiki page was deleted

[edit]

I'm Kari Kimmel and somehow my wikipedia page was deleted. I asked the the photo be removed, but the whole entire page is gone now. Please help! kari — Preceding unsigned comment added by KariKimmelHaskell (talkcontribs) 01:21, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kari, first it isn't your page or article. No one has ownerships of an article on Wikipedia even if it is written about them. Next, the page was deleted as per here because it didn't meet WP:GNG or WP:MUSICBIO as users couldn't find references for it. NZFC(talk) 01:25, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note to any administrator, I think this might be a mistake and I might be able to save the page and meet WP:MUSICBIO. I'm happy for it to be recovered to my draft to work on if someone can? NZFC(talk) 01:29, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@NZ Footballs Conscience: Do you want it in draft space or your user space? --NeilN talk to me 01:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Draft space will be fine thank you. NZFC(talk) 01:58, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@NZ Footballs Conscience: Here you go: Draft:Kari Kimmel Happy editing! --NeilN talk to me 02:07, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, gives me another project to work on. NZFC(talk) 02:08, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

HOW TO ADD ABOUT ME IN WIKI

[edit]

Hi., Sir/Ma'm As we know wikipedia which is the popular wedsite around the world and also tell me how to add about me in wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.111.100.23 (talk) 01:50, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Sorry, that's not how it works. We have no interest in what you have to say about yourself. If you are notable enough for there to be an article in an encyclopedia about you, somebody else without a vested interest in you will eventually create such an article. --Orange Mike | Talk 07:08, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please update my wife, LeToya Luckett picture on her Wikipedia page. The current picture is extremely outdated. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.231.144 (talk) 05:32, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We havehad these three more recent pictures of her we could use instead. Or you could contribute a picture to Wikimedia Commons, so long as it has a suitably unrestrictive copyright license. Maproom (talk) 08:45, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is this a case of "check out #myhotwife", Tommicus? For what it's worth I do think she's more attractive than Bouncy. It's a shame that by drawing attention to these copyright-infringing images you've caused them to be listed for deletion. nagualdesign 02:06, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Hayden Groves

[edit]

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Hayden_Groves I created and uploaded my first piece, how long does it normally take to be accepted ? CobraTrump01 (talk) 13:16, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't yet submitted the draft for review. When you are ready to do so, add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft. You may be among the many editors confused by WMF changing the button labelled "Save changes" to "Publish changes". It doesn't "publish" the page to anywhere but an updated version of the draft, and the software change wasn't accompanied by updates to many of the help pages & instructions which still referred to "Save". You may also find it useful to read the guidance at WP:Your first article. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:24, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey CobraTrump01. I have added the AfC banner, and you may submit it as David says above. I have also removed the image, because the version on commons did not include credible evidence of permission. This needs to be sent via email, following the instructions left for you on your commons talk page. GMGtalk 13:26, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
thank you both, I have now done this can you please check that it is correct please GMGtalk (talk) 13:35, 17 January 2018 (UTC) CobraTrump01 (talk) 13:41, 17 January 2018 (UTC) @GreenMeansGo: CobraTrump01 (talk) 13:49, 17 January 2018 (UTC),[reply]
CobraTrump01, Eagleash and I made some changes to your draft. See also the article history for the edit summaries, and please ask if there is anything you don't understand. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:10, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rody Rijnders

[edit]

Sadly, Roderick Rijnders passed away, January 15th of 2018 (see here). I tried, but I'm struggling with the infobox. Could someone fix it? Vinvlugt (talk) 14:17, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done - Thanks for letting us know the sad news. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:35, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Killing of Cecil the lion

[edit]

Does anyone know why Talk:Killing of Cecil the lion will not archive properly? Please {{ping}} me when you respond. --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:28, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jax 0677: This change may help. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:39, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's done the trick. --David Biddulph (talk) 06:40, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jax 0677: (edit conflict) you're probably best off asking on the talk page for the bot. My guess is that it has to do with the code requesting to archive to a different page - the code wasn't updated when the page was moved from Talk:Cecil (lion) so the bot would be trying to update an archive which is now a redirect. Try updating the archive code and see if it starts working again in a few days. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:40, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translate a Wikipedia side

[edit]

Hi

I want to add a new langue to a Wikipedia site, but don't know how. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThisUsernameIsTaken 123 (talkcontribs) 17:13, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Try m:Requests for new languages. --Ixfd64 (talk) 18:23, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@ThisUsernameIsTaken 123: Your request is unclear. If you want to add a link to an existing article in another language then see Help:Interlanguage links. If you want to translate an article to an existing Wikipedia language then see Wikipedia:Translation. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:31, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bogus citation error in Ollagüe

[edit]

Is there a way to fix the bogus citation error in Ollagüe? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:35, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: I think you've run into a long-standing bug in the software, phab:T22707. You can use <ref>...</ref> tags and {{sfn}} notes inside {{efn}} footnotes, but it all falls apart if you try to define the efn footnotes inside the {{notelist}}. Try moving the efn note definitions up into the text where they are first used. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:39, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it works now. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:43, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of current United States governors by age

[edit]

Can someone with chart know-how fix List of current United States governors by age, there is a rank column that is carried over in the template that is not used, or actually even attached to the chart. --RAN (talk) 19:13, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RAN, are you meaning you are wanting the rank column completely taken out from the article? or are you wanting it fixed so it is part of the table? NZFC(talk) 19:25, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes remove, it is sortable, so no need for a rank, it looks like it was carried over in the template, none of the other related lists have a column for rank, I imagine because it will have to be reranked by hand whenever a new person is added to the list ... best to just sort. See List of current United States lieutenant governors by age --RAN (talk) 19:29, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. NZFC(talk) 19:32, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It was showing |} after each table, but I've got rid of those by deleting the {{end}} templates which belonged with the static column. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:49, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The static column is specifically designed for use with sortable tables, so that the reader can see the rank of each item as each sort option is chosen. List of districts of Nagaland is an example with it working correctly. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:53, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Items missing from my Watchlist

[edit]
Resolved

Why is it that my Watchlist is incomplete? For starters I have it set to show 5 days (and it says, "Below are the last 200 changes in the last 120 hours") but it only ever shows the last day or so. Today it only shows today's edits, and certain pages have an incomplete list of changes. For example, Talk:Frank Zappa discography shows only the last 6 edits, and the 2 edits that immediately preceded those were made in my absence, so it would be appropriate to display them too.

I assume this has something to do with the number of edits, since 200 is a round number. Is there any way to change this so that I can see all the edits made in the time period specified? nagualdesign 19:57, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Scratch that. I found the settings in my preferences and changed 200500. nagualdesign 20:23, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File not in use! What to do with it?

[edit]

Hi! I've been going through today requesting deletions of broken redirects and then started going through the dormant not in use Files like images etc. What do I do with these and what templates do you use to get it erased if its not connected to an article etc and have been like that for a very long time like a number of years. Could someone shed some light on this process an example file is at File:GoldStarChoates.jpg and there are countless listed as unused, in my view they should be removed if not in use to free up space etc. Central · Python  21:21, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

One misconception is that deleting frees up space. Nothing is ever really deleted, it is just hidden from view of most editors. If you really feel File:GoldStarChoates.jpg and other files should be deleted you will need to open discussions using WP:FFD. ~ GB fan 21:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(Edit conflict) I wouldn't worry about files that aren't currently in use unless they're non-free. There's no need to concern yourself with saving server space, and the images may be useful to Wikipedia or other projects at some point in the future. It takes a lot of work to upload images and there's no good reason to undo that in most cases. [Edit] Plus what GB fan said. There's a note about this somewhere in the guidelines, though I can't recall the link. nagualdesign 21:30, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So? What I'm doing is alright then? Like counter-vandalism, getting broken redirects fixed etc. I would like one day Rollback rights, New page rights etc. in the future. Feedback's appreciated. Central · Python  21:33, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting deletions of broken redirects is helpful, yes. Or better yet, fixing the redirects to point to the correct page, if appropriate. Requesting image deletion, not so much. nagualdesign 21:35, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Two of the redirects you nominated for deletion had the correct target until two days ago. You should have checked the page history and reverted to that target. The administrators should also have done that but they are sometimes busy and don't check everything. Both redirects had an incoming link which broke. I have restored New Garia Halt Railway Station and Draft:Forest disturbance of invasive pests in the United States, and reverted them to the correct target. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:42, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One more point, which should be obvious but it's perhaps worth pointing out: Making requests of any sort generally involves making work for someone else to do. If at all possible it's normally better to do something yourself. While identifying things that need doing is generally helpful, actually doing those things is more helpful. nagualdesign 23:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pages can only be deleted by administrators but if a user is just mechanically nominating everything on a list like Special:BrokenRedirects or User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects then it's not helpful. The pages should be individually examined. Administrators can already do that from the lists. If you arbitrarily nominate the pages for deletion then administrators may falsely assume you examined them and omit doing it themselves. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:47, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Those files should be flagged for migration to Wikimedia Commons where they can be grouped and categorized for people to find them that are looking for them. The tag is {{commons ok}} --RAN (talk) 23:38, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CentralPython: You asked for feedback so - please note that your large signature is very annoying. If you wish to go far in the world of Wikipedia, please consider changing it to something that does not disrupt the page layout; it makes it look like you're screaming I'm more important!!!111eleven 86.20.193.222 (talk) 17:36, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't give a shit about the signature bit, besides I found it from another user on Wikipedia this time an Administrator on the site who used exactly the same signature and yet he/she don't get bad comments about it. It'll stay as it is and the comment you've suggested I don't find constructive. Don't do it again! Regards Central · Python  17:56, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough; it was merely constructive criticism. Many potential-admins have recieved negative feedback about obnoxious signatures in WP:RFA - I could dig up citations for that if necessary. But sure; be your own person. Best of luck, 86.20.193.222 (talk) 18:04, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
