Listing

[edit]

How can I create a listing for a public person? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deadroses (talkcontribs) 02:01, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean, exactly? I don't think I understand. ―Nøkkenbuer (talkcontribs) 02:37, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If by 'listing' you mean an article, see Wikipedia:Your first article. Note that you need to demonstrate through published reliable sources that the person concerned meets our notability criteria. AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:01, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help - Emails havent been responded to

[edit]

Hi,

Elcom Credit Union — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bowey21 (talkcontribs) 03:35, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is our old company's Logo and name. We would like to update this page but I am struggling to understand where/how to do it.

Any help would be amazing!

Cheers

Dave — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bowey21 (talkcontribs) 03:34, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We already have Community First Credit Union, but it's currently being considered for deletion. Retaining this and merging the Elcom article into it may be the solution: Noyster (talk), 09:54, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Move request

[edit]

I know there is a page for move requests but the instructions for listing a request are very difficult to understand.

I would like to request this page Bob Chinn be moved to Bob Chinn (film director) so that the page Bob Chinn can be a dismabiguation page for the film director and also this person with the same name, Bob Chinn (restaurateur)

Done After you're account has been active for four days and you've made 10 edits, you can do it yourself for non-controversial edits. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  05:11, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I will add that, for an editor who knows how to create a disambiguation page, it is easier to do it (create the page) than to explain how to do it. (So, if an editor makes this sort of request here, it generally just gets done.) Thank you for creating the disambiguation page. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:54, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

list of topical templates? especially for lists...

[edit]

hi there! I tried to find a list of templates for different purposes in the help-area... couldn't find it, sorry. may be, one could adapt wiki to dummies like me? so why not offer a list on help:templates, following the pattern e.g.:

templates for general articles
t.s for portraits
t.s for historical articles
...
t.s for lists
...
etc.

what I was looking for, was a template for a list with several columns, that can add figures to form sums... my special purpose is to give a possibility to draw up a list of islamist terrorist attacks that sums up, numbers of attacks, hostages taken, ransom demanded, ransom payed, dead and wounded (confirmed, alleged); moreover there should be the columns: date, site, name, perpetrators (declared, suspected), reason given, weapons used, publication-canals/links, etc. so one can get a good overview, also quantitatively... (not possible in the topical article as it stands now...) (if you have improving suggestions, please...!)

so could some techy please help me? thanx a lot! please inform me about an answer here! --HilmarHansWerner (talk) 13:02, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

answer may be here: Category:List templates.--ukexpat (talk) 12:46, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the hint! but prima vista I do not see "list that can do (also) sums..." may be you could shorten my search a bit...?! thanx again! --HilmarHansWerner (talk) 13:07, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The top of Help:Template links to Wikipedia:Template messages which links to Category:Wikipedia templates. It's also linked in Help:Template#Creating and editing templates but maybe there should be a more prominent link at top of the page. We have tens or hundreds of thousands of templates so it can be hard to find one, especially if you don't know whether it exists. A template can only see its own parameters and not what there is on other parts of the page, for example in a column above the template. That means it is unfortunately not possible to make a column sum template. It would be possible but usually too complicated to build an entire table with a single template call which could then have access to each cell value in its own parameters and compute a sum. mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions##expr can compute sums but only when the values are given directly to #expr. Example: {{#expr:2+3+5}} produces 10. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:31, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of articles that use a template?

[edit]

How to get a complete list of articles that use a template? Clicking "What links here" shows the articles (the one's marked "Transcluded") but it only lists 500 at a time. I'm working with a template that has over 10,000 and would like to get the complete list on a regular basis. Is there a tool that will show the complete list not in 500 chunks? -- GreenC 15:07, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

From the template page, Click "What links here", "Hide links", "Hide redirects", "500", and if you still want more then manually change limit=500 in the url. limit=5000 is the highest possible. You can write larger numbers but the list will stop at 5000 and have a "next 5,000" link. Is chunks of 5000 good enough? I haven't examined whether other tools can list more. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:43, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The template currently has over 10,000 but will be more in the future. This is probably something for a tool for on Toolserver as the API maxes out at 5000 and requires multiple API requests of 5000 chunks. But I'd like to get a single list if such a tool to do that exists. -- GreenC 15:50, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@PrimeHunter: I've written a program WTLB (gawk). It will display the list of articles using a template, no limits at 500 or 5000. Not sure where or how to advertise if anyone who might want it. -- GreenC 02:53, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Grant Shapps sockpuppet allegation

[edit]

I am thinking of editing the Grant Shapps article to add a citation of this Guardian article, which claims that Wikipedia has blocked the user account Contribsx because Grant Shapps "or someone acting on his behalf" has used the account to edit his own page as well as the entries of Tory rivals and political opponents. However, User:Contribsx and User talk:Contribsx do not indicate that the account has been blocked. Has The Guardian made a mistake? Perhaps the block has been withdrawn in a hidden way. Verbcatcher (talk) 15:46, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

See the user talk page again. The account has been blocked as a sockpuppet. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:06, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The user and talk page only show whether a block template has been added in the wikitext. Special:Contributions/Contribsx automatically shows a current block. It has a "block log" link which will also show former blocks but there is only the current block in this case. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:09, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I don't think the notice was there when I looked before. Verbcatcher (talk) 18:40, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

correction of error

[edit]

In correcting my name Yom Brand, artist, I typed "Yom" instead of "Tom". My stupid mistake. Can this be corrected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:6800:D6E:85B9:B3A2:C03:A92D (talk) 16:10, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is the only edit by your current IP address and I could not find what you refer to in searches. Please give a link to the page with the problem. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:14, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, no luck finding it either. There is a draft at User:Kjbrand/Tom Brand, but it hasn't been edited at all since 2011 (the COI editor who created it has not edited since 2010).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 18:27, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

We have found a page that outlines a film character Linda Jefferson in the movie Perfect Season. Linda Jefferson

The page also connects the film to director Brett Leonard who is no longer associated with the project. Brett Leonard

Please let us know how best to repair and update this page.

Most sincere appreciation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CommunicaWorld (talkcontribs) 17:57, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The place to request changes to an article is its talk page, either Talk: Linda Jefferson or Talk: Brett Leonard. Maybe that answers your questions. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:51, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The article Linda Jefferson is about a professional footballer, and does not mention any film. So it is hard to guess what is being requested here. Maproom (talk) 07:48, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering how long it takes before a CFD nomination is closed? My nomination of Category:Rakkah Family has been sitting here since February 5. AFDs are closed within a few weeks at most. Thank you, Yoninah (talk) 20:27, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The answer to your question is: "when an admin gets around to it"! I notice that there is no clear consensus, so I have relisted it so more discussion can take place. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 17:59, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia doesn't take autobiographies. We're not Facebook. We probably deleted it because it failed our general notability guideline. Did you cite multiple academic or journalistic sources that were completely independent of you? Ian.thomson (talk) 21:12, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I guess this is about User:Geolinc/George joel stanley which was created by User:Geolinc and not the account User:Geolincoln you posted with here. You were notified at User talk:Geolinc. The page had no sources and was completely unsuited as a Wikipedia article. See Wikipedia:Notability (people) for requirements for a biography. If you enable email at Special:Preferences and ask for it then I can mail a copy of the deleted page. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:35, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

how do I change my password? from the temp 1 u just gave me? cant find that anywhere...

[edit]

At the top of the page is a link that says Preferences. There, you'll see a link that says Change password. Ian.thomson (talk) 21:23, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

|chapter= ignored

[edit]

In User:MRewald/sandbox/Ingetraut_Dahlberg I twice get the error message "|chapter= ignored". I have no idea, why I get this message, as there is no parameter "chapter", and I don't see any parameter which could work as a synonym. Please, does anybody have an idea, how come, that I get this error messages. Thanks a lot in advance! --MRewald (talk) 22:57, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, MRewald. The problem is in the definition of {{Internetquelle}}, a citation template copied from de.wikipedia, and then made into as a wrapper round {{cite web}}. Internetquelle has an argument "titelerg", which has been mapped onto the argument "chapter". Unfortunately, Cite web has no such argument (nor has ever had one, as far as I can see). I think the answer is to use the parameter "at" instead of "chapter", but I'm not sure. I suggest posting on Template talk:Internetquelle. --ColinFine (talk) 23:35, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
