[edit]Unable to view Wikipedia pics in China
[edit]For about 2 weeks now, every English and Chinese Wikipedia page has had ALL pictures show up as dead links. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what might be causing it (behind new Great Firewall nonsense).
220.152.202.197 (talk) 18:38, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- 1) Can you see images at other websites unrelated to Wikipedia? All images in articles are stored at http://upload.wikimedia.org. 2) Can you see http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a9/Example.jpg? 3) Can you see images at other Wikipedia languages? 4) Can you see http://wiki.riteme.site/images/wikimedia-button.png? It is stored here at http://wiki.riteme.site and displayed in the lower right corner. 5) Does Wikipedia:Advice to users using Tor to bypass the Great Firewall help? 6) Which browser do you have? Template:Space has porn, I think
[edit]I was looking at List of songs in Glee (season 2), and was greeted by a picture of a penis ejaculating. I tried to remove it from the page, but found no sign of the offending code. It looks like the 's' template has been edited to include this image, but I am not sure how to get there to edit it myself. Help, please? dstumme (talk) 02:34, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Never mind, looks like someone got to it in the time it took me to type this up. dstumme (talk) 02:38, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Correct. It was fixed with this edit. Dismas|(talk) 02:46, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Choosing a name for an article
[edit]I am about to start a new article about an international company headquartered in Ireland. It's primary business is aircraft leasing. The company's full formal name is "Aergo Capital Limited", however it is often called "Aergo" or "Aergo Capital" or "Aergo Capital Ltd." Redlinks for all these variants already exist in a number of articles.
I'm not familiar with the criteria applicable to selecting which form should be used as the article title. I notice there is a lot of variation in naming articles about companies. Take for example IBM, it could also have been named "International Business Machines Corporation" or "IBM Corporation" or "International Business Machines Corp." or "IBM Corp." so how does one select the best option? In the case of IBM it's probably quite easy because the acronym on its own is widely recognised and not easily confused with anything else. Roger (talk) 07:22, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- WP:NAME has the guidelines for this. Whatever name is the most common, while maintaining neutral tone is probably best. --Daniel 07:30, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I found exactly what I needed at WP:Naming conventions (companies). I have started a sandbox draft at User:Dodger67/Sandbox/Aergo Capital. Roger (talk) 09:41, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- You should also take a look at WP:CORP - the relevant references (3 and 4) do not at the moment appear to demonstrate notability. – ukexpat (talk) 13:13, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- That's why I started it in a sandbox. I've already had the experience of a new article getting speedied while I was still busy typing the second paragraph. Notability will be established by a number of cites from (mostly business) news articles as well as aviation trade publications - got two from the Irish Times so far. I'm not in a huge hurry with the article anyway. Roger (talk) 13:49, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Unable to get rid of "cite error" message
[edit]On the zoophilia article, there is a "cite error" message which stubbornly stays in the article and won't go away. Whenever someone tries to fix the "cite error" message, they are redirected to a "spam filter notice". The "spam filter notice" claims that it was triggered by a blocked website. However, no such website is on the article -- the spam filter notice seems to have selected that blocked website out of thin air. Is there any way to get rid of this stubborn "cite error"?Plateau99 (talk) 12:17, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- User:Hoo man fixed the error with this edit. – ukexpat (talk) 13:15, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yes; I reproduced the error, myself, then asked in the tech channel on IRC. And Hoo man (talk · contribs) was very helpful! The problem was due to a template, Template:Derefer. See diff. I'm not sure why the domain is blocked (or if it should be) - I'll deal with that, somewhere else. But yes, the actual problem in the article is fixed. Cheers, Chzz ► 13:19, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- The url is blocked, because such services can be used to bypass our spam blacklists (htxp://dereferrer.org?url=htxp://badPage.com wont be found as badPage.com from the spam blacklist ;)). I'm Hoo man on wiki, btw - Hoo man (talk) 13:33, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

I can't get rid of 'This Page reads like an advertisement warning sign
[edit]Hi, I've created a page for the author Elif Shafak or Safak and a warning message appeared 'This Page reads like an advertisement'. I've since read the neutrality guidelines and carefully edited the page to make sure no unnecessary descriptions are used and that it is very factual. I've also looked at similar author pages and it is now in adherence with those. However, the warning sign is still on the page. Could you tell me what I need to do to have it removed? Thanks Annabel — Preceding unsigned comment added by Annabelr (talk • contribs) 12:37, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Can you please either add references, or remove, the unreferenced claims?
- For example, "Motherhood, feminism and post-feminism" and "Academic life" have no references. Where can I verify that Shafak grew up with two very different models of Turkish motherhood, that her daughter was born in 2006, and - especially - that she suffered postpartum depression?
- Please see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Thanks, Chzz ► 12:44, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Also, the long quote in the lead paragraph reads as promotional. It should probably be summarized into one sentence in a neutral tone. The Interior (Talk) 12:49, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Note also that maintenance templates like that are not removed automatically even when the issue has been dealt with. – ukexpat (talk) 13:16, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Reliable Source for Alumni Status?
[edit]If there were a "List of Alumni of Notre Dame" page, would being a page run by the Notre Dame Alumni Office of Famous Alumni be considered a primary source which would need to be confirmed or a secondary source? Also, would the equivalent for national level student organizations like Young Republicans, Fraternities and Honoraries be the National organization's website?Naraht (talk) 15:34, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think for alumni status or membership of organizations such as those you mention, the websites of those organizations are sufficient, unless of course there is a dispute as to such status or membership, when additional sources would be necessary. – ukexpat (talk) 15:41, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Suggestions for Revision
[edit]Dear All,
I created the page "Assouline" to add this illustrated book publisher to Wikipedia.
Although I studied the Wikipedia tutorials and other similar luxury brand/publishing house pages before creating "Assouline," my page was marked for speedy deletion due to content that sounded too commercial and promotional.
Can anyone offer suggestions for how to improve my encyclopedic writing voice and revise the article?
Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
SusanSmith2 (talk) 15:48, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- The page is in fact at Assouline Publishing CTJF83 15:55, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Pages on this topic have been at both names and variously deleted, recreated, merged, redirected, etc. DMacks (talk) 16:00, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- (ec) I see that another editor has worked on a previous page about the same publisher (Assouline Publishing), including some content from the Assouline page. The latter is now a redirect to the former (can't have two articles on same topic, and may as well use a clearer and previously-used name for it). Take a look there to see how the tone is more neutral and includes independent references for the notable claims. DMacks (talk) 15:59, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Actually the original poster created Assouline the content of which has been merged into the existing Assouline Publishing article. Assouline now redirects to Assouline Publishing. – ukexpat (talk) 16:01, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
How do you remove a picture from a page?
[edit]I would like to know how to take a picture off of wikipedia because we have not gotten proper copyright authorization yet.
Swjohnson8 (talk) 17:59, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- You are referring to File:Synaptic Transmission.gif? I have tagged it for speedy deletion based on your request here. – ukexpat (talk) 18:05, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Gone. DMacks (talk) 18:15, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

- I have redacted your e-mail address for your privacy and because we cannot do anything with it here. I would give the password reset another try, after bypassing your cache etc. – ukexpat (talk) 19:37, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
