Invitation Meetings Africa & Wikipedia[edit]Why Wikipedia?[edit]In recent years this editable internet encyclopedia in many language versions (English, French, German, Swahili..) has been widely used as a reference. For example, the article Africa has been consulted 245,518 times in October 2013. For researchers, students, information specialists and amateurs wishing to share their expertise with the public at large, Wikipedia is an appropriate medium. However, editors of Wikipedia need to understand the special working principles of this medium. In the short course Introducing Africa & Wikipedia we discuss these topics. How can we improve Wikipedia by corrections and additions? And by writing new articles, uploading photographs, longer texts and other files? In the Writing session Contributing to African subjects on Wikipedia we get down to work. We invite experts, amateurs and other interested Africa buffs to join us at both meetings. See also this ASC webpage for the rationale behind this project. Please register as an editor (user) of Wikipedia by clicking the Register button in the topmost right corner of any Wikipedia page, especially if you join us at the Writing session. Of course you remain free to contribute or not and you won't be spammed.
