This year's ranking list continued to use the complicated system from the preceding years, and Steve Davis was once again far ahead of the rest. Penalties relating to violence and drugs affected the former world champions Alex Higgins and Cliff Thorburn respectively. The Smith book, a key resource for this article, is available to consult at Internet Archive, but I'm happy to provide relevant extracts from any of the sources to reviewers. As ever, all improvement suggestions are welcome. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 00:20, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Seasons are referred to inconsistently throughout. I can see both "The list for the 1986–87 snooker season was the first" and "It was first time since the rankings were instituted in 1976/1977"
- "as part of a six month ban imposed by the WPBSA" => "as part of a six-month ban imposed by the WPBSA"
- "In May 1988, Cliff Thorburn had two ranking points" - no need to relink and restate his full name as he was just mentioned in the last paragraph
- "Stephen Hendry won the other two" => "Hendry won the other two"
- "If there wasstill a tie" (sic) appears repeatedly in the criteria listing
- That's what I got :-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:54, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Many thanks, ChrisTheDude. I've amended the article per the points above. Let me know "if there isstill" anything to address. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:46, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Please state who Gavin Lightman was
- "In April 1988," - the year should be 1987 as per The Times source
- "had earlier been found guilty in court of headbutting the tournament director at the 1987 UK Championship," - I think that was the 1986 UK Championship not the 1987 UK Championship as per the source
- "Alain Robidoux received two walkovers at the 1988 World Snooker championship" - championship should start with a capital letter in this case
- "The tournaments contributing to the 1988–89 rankings were the ranking tournaments held across two seasons" - repetition of tournaments
- "the player who earned more "Merit" points 'was the most recent season was given the higher ranking." - in the most recent season
- "the player who earned more "Merit" points was the most preceding season was given the higher ranking" - in the most preceding season
- "the player with the better performance in the previous ranking tournament was given the higher ranking, going back through ranking tournaments until the positions could be established" - same issue as the fifth point
That's all I have EnthusiastWorld37 (talk) 18:20, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Many thanks, EnthusiastWorld37. Hopefully I've addressed those points. Let me know if anything else is required. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 19:29, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- "Merit" points" and "A" points". Besides, why use a capital m for Merit?
- In the "Points tariff and basis of ranking" section, what's the reason for having "the" before some of the tournaments but not for others?
- In the first table, there's Losing semi-finalist but also Losing Quarter-finalist. I would make it lower case in both cases. Same for Last 16 Loser and Last 32 Loser.
That's what I saw, BennyOnTheLoose. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 08:28, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- I still don't understand why there are three pairs of quotations marks both in "merit" points" and "A" points", BennyOnTheLoose. Is it just a typo? Alavense (talk) 15:08, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Sort of... I had missed it. Hopefully now OK. thanks, Alavense. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:17, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
