This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Arts. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Arts|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Arts. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Keep - the writer is known within the contemporary art scene in the UK and is currently active suggesting there may be more additions to the page in future. While I agree that searching for the author turns up lots of his own writing, a look at other art critics, writers and journalists with Wikipedia entries returns similar results. In terms of independent coverage, this article does include links to notable outlets that have sought his views on art stories and artworks. Suggestions for improvement rather than deletion may be a better course of action. Keep - although this person is mostly only known within the contemporary British art scene, they have contributed numerous articles, interviews, and features in multiple outlets and have been quoted in many sources (as can be seen from the citations). They are clearly significant enough within their own field to warrant keeping this article. Quotations in sources are not enough to demonstrate notability (except in a limited case for certain academics), and authoring articles isn't either. What SIGCOV in independent, reliable sources can you offer? Dclemens1971 (talk) 13:40, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mitch Kern

It appears that this Calgary-based photographer and academic does not meet NARTIST nor GNG for inclusion. It has been almost entirely edited by single purpose accounts that have only edited this article along with a series of WP:SPA IPs from Calgary that added unsourced personal/professional content (now largely cleaned up). The sourcing is almost entirely non-independent primary sources. The article was recently PROD'ed, then de-prodded by one of the IPs. Then IPs from the same range twice removed two maintenance tags (notability, primary sources) without fixing the issues. There is one article on him in the Real Estate section of a local lifestyle paper which is largely an interview (primary). This leaves one good independent source in McCleans on a pinhole camera he uses with his students. I can't find anything to substantiate NACADEMIC, zero hits on Google Scholar. Basically the article shows that he is a photographer with an MFA degree, and a teaching job WP:MILL, but is he notable per WP-criteria? Bringing it here for the community to decide. Article does not appear to meet WP:GNG for WP:BIO on WP:ARCHITECT. I noted that the article mentions awards and projects but these lack independent and reliable coverage (WP:RS). Most sources cited are primary or fail to provide in-depth analysis. Also, the tone of the article appears promotional (WP:PROMO), contrary to WP:NPOV. Per WP:NCHURCH, individual congregations may be evaluated on GNG, which this one pass with SIGCOV in the Midland Reporter-Telegram ([7], [8]) plus the coverage in various George W and Laura Bush biographies. Keep, per the sources identified in the previous AfD that resulted in a withdrawn nomination. One can disagree with the application of WP:NCORP to restaurants (I tend to think it results in far too many WP:ROTM local joints being declared notable), but these sources clear NCORP as we understand it today. I can give you a few examples: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wildwood (restaurant), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Beppi's restaurant, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ping (restaurant), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elements (restaurant) (2nd nomination). (I am not offering these as WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS; I would generally disagreed with the "keep" decisions, but treating restaurant reviews as WP:SIGCOV is going to result in restaurants being held to a different standard than businesses that don't generate reviews. The bias is particularly strong for WP:MILL restaurants in markets whose local papers that review restaurants have national audiences (New York, Washington, Los Angeles, etc.).
