Wikipedia:CARL Medical Editing Initiative/Fall 2019/Course Overview/Assignment 2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goal: Perform a literature search for information regarding the groups Wikipedia article. Identify one citation from the literature search from which information can be retrieved to improve the groups assigned Wikipedia article. Use the project resources page

Submission: Each group will upload a single assignment to gradebook that includes a page completed by each student in the group. Thus a group with 7 students will have 7 pages, each page having the student’s name at the top. The document should be titled with the name of your group using the following format: Group XX_Wikiassignment

  • MAKE SURE YOU KEEP A COPY OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT: YOU ARE GOING TO PLACE A COPY OF IT ON YOUR SANDBOX WHEN WE DO EDITING TRAINING ON NOV 11 (see Course overview)

***Every student will put a copy of their contribution to this assignment on their Wikipedia sandbox for the tutor to see**

Task for Submission: Each student page should explain:

1) How you searched for a source (search strategy – where you went to find it).

2) What potential sources were identified and considered (give examples of 1 or 2).

3) Why the source was chosen (what made it better than other choices).

4) List at least three reasons why the source that was selected meets Wikipedia’s reliable medical sources criteria.

5) How do you plan to use the source for improving the article?

Grading: Each citation (one per person) will be marked using the below rubric:

1)     1 mark for appropriateness of search strategy

2)     2 marks for citations identified / considered

3)     2 marks for a clear rationale for why this resource was the best choice

4)     3 marks for 3 reasons that this meets the criteria set by Wikipedia

5)     2 marks for what you plan to do with this source

Total = 10 marks
