Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): AWB
Function Summary: WikiProject tagging
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run (for this task, future tasks may be added)
Edit rate requested: 6 edits per minute
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): No
Function Details: Bot takes articles from Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian music/Articles, and places {{WP Australia|music=yes|class= |importance= |music-importance= }} (see Template:WP Australia and WikiProject Australian music) on the article's talk page, thus placing them in Category:WikiProject Australian music articles. There are currently 4613 articles on the list, but only 1819 in the category (per an AWB category listing), so it will make about 3000 edits in completing this task. The bot is also capable of adding {{talkheader}} to pages which don't already possess it.

[edit]Standard task. Sure. (I'm not approving, I can't :-) ) ~ Wikihermit 00:09, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Please remember to read the manual and make sure you know how to convert to talk pages, append/prepend, etc. it's a fairly easy task. There should be no problems :-) Good luck! --Boricuaeddie 00:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Wait. If it's a one time run, I could do it if you'd like. I already have a bot ready to go. ~ Wikihermit 00:16, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd rather use this one, so I can re-run it whenever that list outnumbers the cat. I could also expand it to patrol the Australian music related cats at some stage (starting small). Giggy Talk 00:37, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Cool. It's fun running bots. I don't blame you :-). ~ Wikihermit 00:38, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Quick, key, question-- does it support {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} βcommand 00:58, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Not 100% sure. I know the template isn't hard to use (I've used it before, many times), but I'm not sure if I'd be able to get it working via AWB. I'm guessing that's possible? If yes, then I should be able to do so. Giggy Talk 01:08, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 01:16, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- I approved it a minute ago.... --After Midnight 0001 01:29, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- In that case, run the trial :) Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 01:53, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Before you go an mess things up by accident please be aware that for wikiproject tagging you need to use a regex to support the bannershell. βcommand 01:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Trialling now (without regex and banneshell, since I'll need to read up more on that). The problem with the list is that there are lots of false positives; if I get it to do more tagging for this project I'm going to have to play around with different cats. Anyway, that's another task request, some time in the future :) Giggy Talk 02:11, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- The possibility of false positives is also noted in the edit summary. Giggy Talk 02:14, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Please do not continue without supporting the bannershell, that is a key part in the current wikiproject tagging process. βcommand 02:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- It looks like the bot is adding the banner to articles which already have it. I'm going to remove the bot from the AWB approval list. --After Midnight 0001 02:54, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- This issue has been fixed (it had the wrong item on its "skip if contains" list. Should be good now. Bannershell issue fixed here. Giggy Talk 02:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Issues are sorted now, so Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. with proper settings. Please re-approve for AWB. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 04:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Whoops, I misunderstood as the "Done" being trial done. I guess I should have noticed I asked for it to be reapproved for AWB, the person whosaid it approves bots for AWB, and the person who said it wasnt the botop. My bad! Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'll re-run a trial tonight when I get home - no AWB at school. Sorry about the confusion. Giggy Talk 23:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Are you using vanilla AWB, or kingboyk's plugin w/AWB? If the former, I strongly suggest the latter (details should be findable either here or here). Martinp23 23:24, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm running AWB v4, and the plugin is shipped with it. I just have to find it and config it. 23:30, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I should know this, but. Does AWB add banners to {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}? — madman bum and angel 00:20, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Not natively, but you can using advanced find and replace, as with this bot (see above discussion). Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 03:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Done - OK, I ran a quick trial (12 edits) because I didn't have time to run the full 50. In any case, they all went OK. You can find the contribs here, all edits down to [1] (Talk:All I Need Is You) were made today (they have a different edit summary). Hope this is good. Giggy Talk 07:51, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A slight concern and sorry for the late notice: Take for example Beatles song Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da which is in Category:Number-one singles in Australia and therefore landed in Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian music/Articles. In fact, anything in (say) List of number-one singles in Australia in 2007 is probably in the list. Is it appropriate to tag a non-Australian song with {{WP Australia}}? I wouldn't have thought so, but would like to hear others thoughts on that. —Moondyne 07:54, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- [2] - It's OK, I check all of the bot's edits. For future AUSMUS tagging tasks, I'll have it run through different cats, not through the #1 singles cat. Unless you want those ones tagged for the project (I'd have thought no). Giggy Talk 08:03, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Cool. The two to skip would be Category:Lists of number-one albums in Australia and Category:Number-one singles in Australia (and their associated sub-cats). Australian songs will be picked up from other cats higher up in the tree I'm sure. —Moondyne 08:09, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- It looks like the second trial did not include any edits that used {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}. I would like to see some of these before the bot is approved. Also, I don't think that the banner that you place on the page should be above the {{talkheader}} when present. --After Midnight 0001 23:31, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, I've added (manually) {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} to 3 talk pages (1, 2, 3), and I'll now run them through the bot to show you how it works :) As for {{talkheader}}, I've got an idea of how to get around that, but I'm worried that if I implement that, it may result in the banner being placed twice if BannerShell is also present. So if you don't mind, I'll just let that go. Giggy\Talk 04:31, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Was that last one using AWB? There is no "using AWB" on the end of the summary, and you cannot turn it off unless you have a bot flag, which you don't. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 09:39, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not sure that I am comfortable with leaving the {{talkheader}} issue as is. Question to BAG members: is it standard to have this placed above the talk header? To me, an edit like this, where you have a banner on top, then a talkheader and then another banner looks sloppy. It obscures the talkheader such that it (the talkheader) doesn't serve its purpose. --After Midnight 0001 10:32, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- AWB is just appending it to the top. I don't know how you would get around this. ~ Wikihermit 21:40, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- In that case, wouldnt it be easier to make it remove talkheader then put the talkheader code in the prepend. Then it also does talkheader tagging. Also, it's best to avoid hiding the "using AWB" during trials, as it is not marked as being a bot. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 02:25, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Good idea, I'll do that. Giggy\Talk 02:27, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- In that case, consider adding talkheader part of the brfa. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 02:30, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Done...do I need to trial that too? Giggy\Talk 06:45, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- It looks like you made 13 edits and they were looking good, but you reverted 10 of them. Is the bot picking the wrong articles to tag or is there some other reason you are reverting it? Also, are you sure that you want your bot messing around in this nonsense. --After Midnight 0001 10:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- One problem. Looking at the log, you shouldn't be skipping non-existent talk pages. ~ Wikihermit 17:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- After-Midnight: As noted above by Moondyne, the list I'm taking articles off isn't the most "correct" list, and contains a good deal of false positives, which I need to revert (at some stage, I'll take all of those off the list manually). And the EFD thing was manual.
- Wikihermit: The plugin suggested I do, but I see your point. I'll change that. — Giggy 08:27, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I think that you need to clean up your list before you do any more edits with the bot. It appears that you have already reverted yourself twice on some of the pages. You can not continue to work on live pages and then revert them when those pages shouldn't even be on your list. --After Midnight 0001 09:55, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
