Edit period(s): One time run.
Estimated number of pages affected: 8,000
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Y

Function details: The bot replaces redirected templates with their current templates, with an emphasis on stub templates which have been renamed at WP:SFD. All the classes have been written, and I already have a fully functional, semi-automated tool version (i.e. human assisted) of this bot. -FASTILY (TALK) 02:30, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]How does this respect WP:R2D and the following statement on Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Template redirects itself:
- You are reminded that making page edits solely for the purpose of bypassing template redirects may be considered "trivial editing", and therefore contravene the AWB rules of use. Normally you should not make page edits just to bypass redirects unless there is an agreed need to do it.

- If you cared to read the bot's function details, you'll notice that I specified an priority in assisting with the migration of Stub Templates renamed via WP:SFD. If it is that inappropriate to make such changes, you may consider this request withdrawn. -FASTILY (TALK) 21:43, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- {{BAGAssistanceNeeded}} So...verdict? -FASTILY (TALK) 02:24, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- A few questions:
- How are renamed stub templates different from any other template? Is the intention to only use the bot to bypass templates immediately after an SFD is closed (per Wikipedia:SFD#Renaming options)?
- Will the bot only operate on recently renamed stub templates? The function details say that it will "focus" on renamed stub templates, but it isn't clear if that focus will be exclusive or if it will branch out to other templates.
- As far as I understand it, the AWB template redirect list is a list of templates to bypass only in conjunction with other substantive changes to the page. If the only purpose of a bot's edit is to bypass a redirect, then how does it not fall afoul of WP:NOTBROKEN or AWB rule #4?

- Good questions. Anomie⚔ 03:55, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

. I'm withdrawing this request. I have neither the time to argue for a 'controversial' task nor the time to run it. -FASTILY (TALK) 04:02, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Withdrawn by operator. I didn't think this looked particularly controversial, but rightio. --Chris 04:11, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
