Re: Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance
Since you commented on a Grammy-related list that I recently nominated, I wanted to let you know that I went ahead and nominated the list Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for FL status. List of FC Barcelona presidents
Hello. I have created a list of all presidents of Barcelona here, and I would like to hear you input on the featured list nomination here, because it has not received any reviews for 14 days now. If you could add whether you support, (are) neutral or oppose the list, that would be very helpful as well. Cheers! Sandman888 (talk) 06:46, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Hello, I appreciate that your reviewing the article, but it will not be ready by the deadline (end of month). So you could move on, I'd just fail the GA review if I were you, and one day maybe in December or January I can fix it up to standards. --Nascar1996 Contribs / Tasks 15:44, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks for your splendid work in closing RFD discussions. However, there is a consensus in the RFD community that page histories should be maintined. This was agreed at 'Grumman XF5F-1 "Skyrocket'. Would you please userfy this redirect, with the history, to me and I'll do the necessary. Bridgeplayer (talk) 17:05, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'm a little confused as to your request; what exactly do you want userfied? There doesn't seem to be a purpose in userfying the redirect especially if it'd just get deleted again anyway. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:59, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- In order to preserve the history the procedure, as discussed in the RFD, needs to be followed - move to Grumman XF5F-1 "Skyrocket" followed by deletion of the resulting redirect. Bridgeplayer (talk) 18:07, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi, as usual you have done an absolutely monster job of closing out RFDs. However, I should be grateful if you would take another look at this one. Though there was a small majority for deletion, all the three deletion !voters were arguing against the X-space redirects being kept and, FWIW, I agree with that. None of the three addressed the proposal for retargeting. As OE argued, the retarget Featured Article to Feature article would not only be a normal retarget but it would save 500+ redlinks being unnecessarily created. I should be grateful if you would either take a second look at the close or; if you are agreeable, let the close stand but 'make no objection' if I create a new redirect as an editorial action. Hello
I want to bring up something that has been troubling me. On the GA nominations page, the Copa Libertadores page has been ignored for a pretty long time while the main reviewers perform reviews and other subjects. I don't want to sound like a nag but other nominees (which are about a week old) have been taken faster than my nomination.
Since this is a mass message to the most frequent reviewers (I only counted four main reviewers), could you at least tell me if an article needs to be a GA before nominating it to become a FA? Or at least point me to a reviewer that could review my nomination? Thanks.
Jamen Somasu (talk) 13:10, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Well, since I have been frustrated lately by the obvious disinterest in anything Spanish-speaking, I would like to ask you for a favor. Could you please review this GA nomination? It shouldn't take too long since the page is informative but fairly long. Thanks. Jamen Somasu (talk) 16:09, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Commas in dates
Hi W. Actually, the proper format is to have a comma after the year in a date (rather than deleting those, you might look for where they are missing to add them). As comma explains,
most style manuals, including The Chicago Manual of Style ["It’s conventional to put a comma after the year. The commas are like parentheses here, so it doesn’t make sense to have only one.”][1] and the AP Stylebook, ["When a phrase refers to a month, day and year, set off the year with commas... Feb. 14, 1987, was the target date."][2] recommend that the year be treated as a parenthetical, requiring a second comma after it: "Feb. 14, 1987, was the target date."
Cheers.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:48, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

WS ring question
Did Josh Booty and Mark Kotsay win WS rings with the 97 Marlins? Both appeared during the 97 season, but neither appeared in the 97 postseason. Booty's wiki page lists him as a WS champ, and his gamelogs show him as a September call-up (which suggests he was at least on the postseason roster) while Kotsay played his cup of coffee in July. - I am aware that by definition Wikipedia is licensed under GNU and that I do not own my userspace. However, as WP:USERSPACE, "by custom if used reasonably and within these guidelines, you the editor will mostly be left to manage and set them up entirely as you wish." This is normally interpreted to mean that as long as I don't violate Wikipedia policy, my userspace is mine to mangage and edit meaning that other editors should not arbitrarily edit userspace articles or files without the originating editor's permission. ----moreno oso (talk) 15:16, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Since the other infobox template just redirects to the other, you can keep what you wish. On Xeno's point, the line between trivial and untrivial seems rather blurry to me, as I wouldn't have thought moving an infobox from its redirected name to the current one as a trivial thing, though I guess it could be in the case of changing a capital letter. WikiCup 2010 July newsletter
We are half-way through our penultimate round, and nothing is yet certain. Pool A, currently led by Sasata (submissions) has ended up the more competitive, with three contestants ( Sasata (submissions), Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions)) scoring over 500 points already. Pool B is led by Casliber (submissions), who has also scored well over 500. The top two from each pool, as well as the next four highest scorers regardless of pool, will make it through to our final eight. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Planning has begun for the 2011 WikiCup, with open discussions concerning scoring and flags for next year's competition. Contributions to those discussions would be appreciated, especially concerning the flags, as next year's signups cannot begin until the flag issue has been resolved. Signups will hopefully open at some point in this round, with discussion about possible changing in the scoring/process opening some time afterwards.
Earlier this round, we said goodbye to Hunter Kahn (submissions), who has bowed out to spend more time on the book he is authoring with his wife. We wish him all the best. In other news, the start of this round also saw some WikiCup awards sent out by Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions). We appreciate his enthusiasm, and contestants are of course welcome to award each other prizes as they see fit, but rest assured that we will be sending out "official" awards at the end of the competition. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Draft picks
Glad to see the Cards nominated. It looks like List of Seattle Mariners first-round draft picks could go to FLC with just a few hours work. Should that try to be the next one nominated?<pr> Also, List of Arizona Diamondbacks first-round draft picks is close, but I've had a small question. Since I noticed the same thing in St. Louis' history- why is there a year where they received a compensatory pick but no supplementary one? (2003 for Arizona, 2000 for the Cardinals). Of the eight left that need creating, I'm going to do Pittsburgh next, unless that was where you were headed as well. Courcelles (talk) 18:14, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi, not sure why this hook was removed from the nominations page. I reviewed this July 27th nomination on August 5 and posted a request to the creator's and nominator's talk pages to re-format the URLs. Footy list needing reviews
Hello wizardman, I'm writing because you reviewed a previous list I had at nominated at FLC so I was wondering whether you'd care to review List of FC Barcelona records and statistics? The lengthy article makes it a bit hard, so there are not a lot of outside reviewers popping in. Best regards, Sandman888 (talk) Latest FLC 15:08, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Big Brother 11 (U.S.) GA nominee
Hi I nominated Big Brother 11 (U.S.) for GA and I was wandering if you wouldn't mind reviewing the nomination since you reviewed Big Brother 2009 (UK). It would be great for the project to get a second GA article within a short amount of time. Thanks. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 15:25, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 June newsletter
We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were Ian Rose (submissions) (A), Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader), ThinkBlue (submissions) (C) Casliber (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.
If you're interested in the scores for the last round of the Cup, please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Round 3 and Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Full/Round 3. Our thanks go to Stone (submissions) for compiling these. As was predicted, Group C ended up the "Group of Death", with 670 points required for second place, and, therefore, automatic promotion. This round will probably be even tougher- again, the top two from each of the two groups will make it through, while the twelve remaining participants will compete for four wildcard places- good luck everyone! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn, Fox and The ed17
GOCE Newsletter
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk. |

Hello Wizardman, I kdon't know if we have chatted before, but I came here to know whether you are promoting from the WP:FTC page or not. Because it seems a number of nominations are lying there for a long time. — Legolas (talk2me) 10:39, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Copyedit request
Can you copyedit Ben Paschal for me, it just needs a further copyedit for it to become a FAC. Thanks Secret account 15:26, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
See my message in the talk page of the baseball wikiproject. I would work on an article of your choice if you could help me let Paschal be a featured article. Thanks Secret account 15:52, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
On Aug 20 you have indicated at WP:GAN#MISC that you have initiated a GA nomination review for City of Washington–Washington & Jefferson College relations. However, as of today, August 25, a dedicated subpage for the review for this article has not yet been created. Do you still mean to review the article? If not, it's probably best to remove the "review initiated" note from its listing at WP:GAN#MISC. Thanks, Nsk92 (talk) 19:50, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

GAN for Jim Wallhead
Ok, firstly, I realise that leaving this message might be frowned upon by some, but I'll risk it anyway as I figure you either listen or you don't :)
A few months ago, you reviewed Jim Wallhead for me at GAN. It was admittedly nowhere near GA status, though I didn't realise that at the time. This is the review page for the first submission. I've had the newest version listed at GAN for about three weeks. Now, I realise that cutting in queue would be frowned upon, but I'm just wondering if you could eventually take a look to see if your own review has been satisfied.
If not, then no problem. Hope to hear from you soon. All the best. Paralympiakos (talk) 18:22, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I read your message, and I think the #1 issue about the article is its style. It is not engaging or fun to read. I didn't gain any new insights or interesting details. The minute details about it's omissions are irrelevant; it is just a really boring article, and I can't put myself into the mood to edit it anymore.
And truth be told, this lack of interest is what is killing its GAN, and will continue to do so. --Screwball23 talk 03:43, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
What's up, Mr. Wizard
Yo! I have done some good upgrades on the Copa Libertadores article despite many obstacles, and I was wondering if you think this is good enough to become a FA. I would like to have you nominate this article for feauture status since you seems to know a lot about wikiediting. What do you say? Go over it, if you think it is close enough and worth your time (to pin another star on your userpage), I encourage you to do it (the article deserves to be a FA). You can respond here. I'll read it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.145.92.159 (talk) 12:31, 31 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.215.154.171 (talk)

Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round. Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles. Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals. Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to Stone (submissions) for these.
Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.
Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded.
