I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

University of Oregon notable alumni

I'd hardly call a chancellor of a major university, two current members of the US House of Representatives, one current member of the US Senate, a software engineer with major contributions to his field, an award winning biochemist, and an extremely popular blogger "random names". I propose we add them back in to your edit adding in faculty and staff.

I personally think that there were too many images in that section. That's why I deleted them. You are welcome to add them again. However, if you do please keep the section below that has images of notable faculty/staff --Wiseoleman17 (talk) 21:32, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's fairly common on Wikipedia for more images than that to be shown. Take for example the sections for UC Berkeley and University of Florida. Would you rather the gallery be removed entirely in favor of a bulleted list?

I just wanted to have some balance btw the alumni and faculty/staff sections i guess. I also think they listing all the notable names kind of defeats the purpose of having a separate article. Having too many images makes it seem kind of crowded in my opinion.

How about no more than one name from each alumni category (arts, business, science, law, politics etc.) Is that a good compromise or is that too arbitrary?

I personally prefer the gallery as I think it tells a more compelling and visually appealing story. Maybe I will add more to fac/staff as i find more names that fit that description.

If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
