Information icon Hello, I'm Edwardx. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Edwardx (talk) 11:53, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Edwardx,
The source is the person - Jason Tarry who asked me to update for him. How can I reflect a source who is the person themselves?
best wishes,
Chris Wiki CW Wiki (talk) 12:12, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Chris. For a start, you could read the Wikipedaia help pages linked to above. After all, I assume you are getting paid for your time. And as you have a conflict of interest, I will leave you another message below, with more help pages to read. Edwardx (talk) 12:51, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Wiki CW Wiki. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Jason Tarry, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 12:52, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, very much. I don't believe a conflict of interest has taken place. As a result of the changes I proposed, Wiki readers would benefit from having accurate, up to date factual information regarding the birth year of the individual and their relationship status. I do not benefit commercially from this. Wiki CW Wiki (talk) 13:02, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Edwardx, I have sourced the minor changes (related to personal life) to LinkedIn. Could you please let me know if this is acceptable? I have read this guidance and believe it could be OK: Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites#LinkedIn
With best wishes,
Chris Wiki CW Wiki (talk) 10:19, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Jason Tarry who asked me to update for him" - that is an obvious and straightforward conflict of interest. Looking at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources, "LinkedIn is a social network. As a self-published source, it is considered generally unreliable and should be avoided unless the post is used for an uncontroversial self-description." So, it would be okay to use it to support "Jason lives in North London with his partner Fenella and young son. He has three grown up children." However, it is NOT okay to remove the Grocer reference, as this is needed to support him being born in Tonbridge, and his previously married to Cathryn. Edwardx (talk) 12:01, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really sorry @Edwardx - thanks so much for your help and explanation. It's very helpful. I'm still working out how to navigate so appreciate your understanding. Wiki CW Wiki (talk) 13:34, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is it now OK?
Best wishes,
Chris Wiki CW Wiki (talk) 13:35, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Wiki CW Wiki! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Jason Tarry that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 12:12, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
