Semi-protection needed
You were the last to semi-protect this. The troll is clearly happy to wait a week and the only chance of breaking the cycle is for protection of at least three months. I suggest indefinite protection, lifting it when it seems appropriate. That way, the troll won't have a date for when to return. It's unusual, but something has to be done. An edit filter might catch most of them, but a filter for one page would be unusual as well. Johnuniq (talk) 07:22, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- I'd rather not yet. That page is watched by many, and this particular troll isn't one of our most competent ones (quickly reverted and blocked). Widr (talk) 08:14, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

I was looking through recent changes and noticed that you blocked someone, citing block evasion. Not questioning the block but I did notice that the SPI page you link to is a redlink and I was wondering if it was a typo. --Border of Phantasm (Complaint Center) 17:29, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Massive disruptive editing
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:97.88.225.207
The following IP user (previously warned and blocked for disruptive editing bordering on could be considered "vandalism" at this point given the scope and repetition) has resumed causing massive disruptive edits to multiple pages following being unblocked. 74.83.113.39 (talk) 04:01, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Hoax albums
So I think the user may be tied to Dylan Florida but it's a lot different from his normal MO but he's the only 'prolific' hoax album creator I can think of and despite the lack of a usual username the hoaxes seem to coincide a bit with their behavior (see the Avril Lavign redirect to a Natalie Imbruglia album.) I see as I was typing this he was indeffed, but what are your thoughts? CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 12:18, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

List of 2017 albums
I thought the block and pending changes protection of List of 2017 albums would be enough to discourage the disruptive IP from editing it, but perhaps not. I have reverted their pending changes, but I get the feeling this pattern will continue. Is it enough yet to make it simply require autoconfirmed without pending changes? Ss112 20:09, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- I'll keep on an eye on it. Good thing is that those changes won't go "live" unless they get accepted. Widr (talk) 20:17, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Considering they still haven't gotten the message they're not welcome on WP, they'll most likely be back, potentially with a(n attempted) revert and snarky edit summaries to go with it, so it may need to be further protected soon. Ss112 20:19, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

- If I get there before you, which is highly unlikely. Widr (talk) 20:30, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- I really think List of 2017 albums needs to have its protection status upgraded. This IP user is persistent, disruptive and not getting the message. Edit: Okay, thanks for that. Ss112 23:06, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

can we personally message to talk users through wikipedia, or not? I want to discuss various things related to reason I've got blocked. so we could solve the situations going around BLP's violation and some Wikipedia Basics. Broken nutshell (talk) 17:56, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Broken nutshell: Not in the usual 'Messenger' sense, no. There is a WP:EMAIL facility, if the user has set it up (it's not compulsory), but in the interests of transparency you wil generally find that talk page messages are the usual form of communication. without speaking fr Widr personally, there doesn't seem to be anything in those things you ant to discuss that is so egregious as to need a cloak of anonymity, as it were.
- On a (possibly) related note, I asked you on your own talk page why you referred to yourself in the plural, as accounts are only for one person, not shared use. Cheers, — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 18:05, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

IP editing recent music articles
Hi Widr, in regards to the Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/PeopleEater143 IP who edited List of 2017 albums, can you please also maybe look into semi-protecting 9 (Cashmere Cat album)? (I also asked you to potentially protect Bloom (MGK album), but that article's editing has slowed.) 9 is where some of their disruptive editing also takes place. Thanks. Ss112 06:08, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Edit summary of HBC AIV helperbot5
Hi,
The bot uses "rm" in his edit summary. I couldnt understand what it stands for. Here is an edit summary: "2 IPs left. rm 174.79.60.245 (blocked 7 days by Widr (AO ACB))."
Does it stand for "removing"? If not, what does it mean? Thanks. —usernamekiran(talk) 20:14, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, you guessed it right. Widr (talk) 20:39, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. —usernamekiran(talk) 20:50, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran: It's a (semi-)official abbreviation. See Wikipedia:Edit summary legend. The short hand is a mix of Unix geeks who like to abbreviate (rm, meaning remove, is the Unix command to delete a file, for example), and a requirement due to the max length of a summary. Vellore
Hello. Right after you protected Vellore a registered user, Special:Contributions/Venkatesa prassnna, continued the edits of the IP-hopper, and a quick look at their contributions, talk page and block log (blocked for 60h on 3 May by Materialscientist for "persisten addition of unsourced material" on Vellore...) talk makes it obvious that the IPs and the registered user are one and the one, so it might be worth to keep an eye on them. Or perhaps even block them since the latest IP received a level-4 and the named user started editing after that... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 11:57, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Music group's "manager"
Hey Widr, I reported the user Kenbraw for being a promotion-only account yesterday but the report was dismissed due to there not being enough recent activity to warrant a block. Shouldn't a user repeatedly claiming they are a group's manager, disputing content and continuing to edit stating "I am the Proclaimers' manager" in their summaries be blocked for advertising or promotion? Ss112 13:20, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- You may consider posting to WP:COIN. AIV was certainly not the correct venue for this. Widr (talk) 14:24, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- How was it "certainly not the correct venue" when other accounts are reported at ANV for advertising or promotion through the same type of edits and this appears to be the exact same thing? Ss112 21:20, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- AIV is only meant for obvious vandalism or spam that require immediate attention, not something from a month ago. Bad reports tend to sit there longer before anyone declines/removes them, others are actioned normally within minutes. Widr (talk) 21:28, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
