Gran Torino IS a comedy
Please do not undo my edits because you missed the point of the movie. Have you seen it? Do you really think the movie is an unironic tale about the most racist old man ever? Even after he befriends the Hmong people, he still calls them names like "Dragon Lady" and "Yum-Yum."
- As a matter of fact, I have, and find it hard to agree with you. Nevertheless, we do not change genres based on our personal opinions; we need reliable sources for them. Feel free to discuss your concerns on the article's talk page. Widr (talk) 17:09, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
What is your reliable source for it being a drama?
- How about the links in the External links section of the article? I can't see any of those sites labeling the movie as a comedy. Widr (talk) 17:27, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Why are you lying to the public? Do you have a Mac? Do you use the product? Have you been hurt by MacKeeper? It's constructive to help a large company rather than protect the public.? Saint Vincent (island)
hi Widr, i got your message regarding an edit i made to the wiki on St Vincent. Thanks for advising me as to the deletion. I have the wikipedia app on my tablet i used it to look up St Vincent and it gave a good description of St Voncents name according to the native indians at the time of Columbus. However when using just the firefox browset to lookup the same subject, the wiki was not exactly the same, i just wanted to correct what it said about the islands name at the time of discovery. I am new to this so i guess i messed up the edit, my apologies.95.63.8.40 (talk) 17:13, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Terry 2/04/14

IP address vandal permaban?
Hi, thank you for fixing the vandalism here. Looking at the history of 50.122.58.35, shouldn't that IP address be banned indefinitely? Nothing but vandalism from that IP, as far as I can tell. Thanks, Cowicide (talk) 18:11, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
- The IP hasn't edited for over a week, so blocking wouldn't be appropriate now. IP addresses aren't usually blocked indefinitely anyway. If they continue vandalizing, we can always report them at WP:AIV. Widr (talk) 18:18, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Please check out the Rock Hudson Article -- help needed
Hi-- I'm writing to you as a person who has edited the Rock Hudson page and who also appears to have significant Wikipedia experience and/or admin status (I'm not sure about that last part). Anyway, there is an Anon editor that has deleted a chunk of text from the Rock Hudson article, because according to this editor, "The entire entry is politically motivated and serves no useful purpose." The material being deleted has been there a while with no complaints, it is neutral in tone (tho it mentions Reagan), and is sourced. The first time the material was deleted, I reverted and added a request for comment on the deletion/material being deleted to the talk page. The same IP has re-deleted without responding on the talk page. The edit summary says: "Quit adding this nonsense back into this page. It has nothing to do with Hudson." I don't want to get into an edit war, so I'd like a wise 3rd party to step in. Maybe that could be you? Looking at the contribution history of the IP in question, the editor's relatively few contributions have mostly been deletions accompanied by unsupported, incorrect and/or provocative edit summaries (My favorite: "Glenn Miller did not play jazz, which had mostly faded from the scene by 1935"). Most of the IP's edits have been reverted on the pages in question. Whether or not this editor is usually wrong doesn't determine the result in this instance, of course, but I think the context does matter. If you don't want to get involved, could you point me to someone who might be able to help? Thanks! David.thompson.esq (talk) 02:00, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks (though I'm not an admin). This seems to be a content dispute, so it would be best to go by consensus here. It doesn't exactly look like the IP is doing that. I also noted that they have been warned of the similar behavior back in December. Since the original content is sourced and previously accepted, I don't see any reason to remove it without discussion and consensus on the talk page first. Widr (talk) 05:51, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- so I should re-revert and direct the IP to make his/her case for consensus on the talk page? Thanks for your response, by the way. David.thompson.esq (talk) 02:39, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
- That would be a good idea. I would also mention it in the edit summary and maybe on their talk page too. Widr (talk) 04:30, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
- so I should re-revert and direct the IP to make his/her case for consensus on the talk page? Thanks for your response, by the way. David.thompson.esq (talk) 02:39, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Need advice for speedy deletion
I noticed that the Wiki pages for Royal Golden Eagle and Asia Pacific Resources International Limited are both phrased in a biaised manner and very negative in content.
There is no balanced reporting of facts or information about either companies.
As such, I believe it is the work of persons who intentionally want to defame or attack these companies.
Can you advise how to request for speedy deletion of both of these Wiki pages?
Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.73.231.126 (talk) 10:12, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- Speedy isn't going to work here, but you can propose the articles for deletion. Please read Wikipedia:Proposed deletion. Widr (talk) 10:51, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks very much for your advice and guidance. Can I clarify the step with you?
Do it mean I just need to put the "liner" at the top of the actual Wiki page? (i.e. above all other text?)
Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.73.231.126 (talk) 00:35, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah. It should go to the top of the page. Widr (talk) 04:32, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Annual percentage rate
I noticed you removed my edit about APR and marked it as vandalism using STiki. The definition that's their is incorrect. The statement "If the $10 fee were considered, the monthly interest increases by 10% ($10/$100), and the effective APR becomes approximately 435% (1.1512 = 5.3503, which equals a 435% increase). " doesn't make sense. If the fee were calculated in it would be $110 compounded by 5% which would yield about 197, which means the APR on a $100 dollar loan would be 97 %. Adding a $10 fee and saying that 10/100 is 10% doesn't make any sense. Was there something I did wrong or why did you mark it as spam? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:9:2A80:1BE:A409:F133:E0E1:F6BB (talk) 21:48, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- I did not mark your edit as vandalism or spam, it was removed as a good faith edit. Additions starting with "I don't think..." should go to the article's talk page instead of the article itself. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. You might want to try to rephrase or fix the original article if you find errors there. Widr (talk) 22:07, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Communicating with an IP address
Hello Widr.
I received a message that you had undone one of my edits. Trouble is that as this was a dynamic IP address, it was never going to be seen by the person it was addressed to. My own practice is that if I am making an edit and someone wasn't logged in, I just edit and don't worry about it.
Have fun
07:35, 18 April 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.25.162.45 (talk)
- Thanks for your message. You can ignore the warning if the edit wasn't yours. Widr (talk) 08:17, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Dynamic IP addresses
You really need to sort this out. Sending a message to people who are not responsible for an edit (or have any idea of who it could be) is just a waste of time. As above, you've sent a message to myself about edits made in September in relation to Conor Maynard.
Thanks. 92.4.141.27 (talk) 09:11, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- There's nothing to sort out. Most warnings are automatic and we do send them because of repeat vandals who end up getting blocked. I suggest you create an account if you are annoyed by messages not meant for you. Widr (talk) 10:12, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
OER inquiry
Hi Widr, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:51, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Well I marked it as a hoax and g7
As that one page the person keeps on deleting the g7 even (and it started as a hoax/person, I really don't know what to say other then they have been even adding this non existant person on other pages with different IP's) Wgolf (talk) 17:55, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed. If they keep on blanking, we may as well let them; blanking by sole author can also be considered a request for deletion. Widr (talk) 17:58, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Edit
Why did you undo what I wrote? I was truly trying to make this a more interesting page. The current format is just boring and really does not do a lot to describe Athens in a suitable and intriguing way. It is written similar to many boring small towns. I recently read a great description of Santa Cruz, CA, and was trying to model along these lines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carmen and Dude's World (talk • contribs) 00:05, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- This is encyclopedia, and your additions such as "the funkiest small city/large" are clearly unencyclopedic, even though you might consider them more interesting. Widr (talk) 00:20, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
Invitation join the new Physiology Wikiproject!
Based on the long felt gap for categorization and improvization of WP:MED articles relating to the field of physiology, the new WikiProject Physiology has been created. WikiProject Physiology is still in its infancy and needs your help. On behalf of a group of editors striving to improve the quality of physiology articles here on Wikipedia, I would like to invite you to come on board and participate in the betterment of physiology related articles. Help us to jumpstart this WikiProject.
- Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProkect Physiology talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
- You can tag the talk pages of relevant articles with {{WikiProject Physiology|class=|importance=}} with your assessment of the article class and importance alongwith. Please note that WP:Physiology, WP:Physio, WP:Phy can be used interchangeably.
- You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing physiology articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
- We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
- Why not try and strive to create a good article! Physiology related articles are often small in scope, have available sources, and only a limited amount of research available that is readily presentable!
- Your contributions to the WikiProject page, related categories and templates is also welcome.
- To invite other editors to this WikiProject, copy and past this template (with the signature):
{{subst:WP Physiology–invite}}
~~~~
- To welcome editors of physiology articles, copy and past this template (with the signature):
{{subst:WP Physiology–welcome}}
~~~~
- You can feel free to contact us on the WikiProkect Physiology talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. You can also put your suggestions there and discuss the scope of participation.
Hoping for your cooperation! DiptanshuTalk 12:32, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Notable Callers
Hello. I appreciate the content that you added on the WFAN Notable Callers section. As a frequent listener of the FAN, I have grown to love Leslie from Fort Lee myself. However, I wanted to let you know that most of the content that you added onto the section was not written to the best of its ability and needed to be cleaned up. I just wanted to let you know that I cut most of your edits, but it is only for the purpose of keeping the section credible and up to Wikipedia's standards. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to continue listening to the FAN with you. --Albino Geronimo (talk) 06:48, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

The 18th amendment correction
Hi. I am a teacher using this former student PC as my teaching PC right now at our school. I have never made a change to anything in Wikipedia and apologize if a student who used this computer before it became my PC did so. Can you please help me trace or track down the student who did so. Since all students sign a login/logout sheet I may be able to find out who did this before the school issued me this computer. I would need the following information if you have it available: the login name, if used, the date and time the change to the 18th amendment article was made. I am sorry this happened and can talk with the student about making such changes on a school PC, and prevent such abuse in the future. Thank you. Hi Widr, i'm Kuyapo. I was surprised when Wikipedia advised me on a page i opened that, among other articles, i had edited a page on "Spy Kids" and that you reverted the edit because it was "not constructive." Truth be told, i have not even opened the page on Spy Kid, much less done any editing on it. I am principally a user/reader of Wikipedia, i have no idea about my url address (the notice said it is 112.198.64.6), and i do not remember doing any editing on any wikipedia article at all. Nice to meet you anyway. Kuyapo (talk) 14:11, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
