Australian Transport Safety Bureau

Hi there WhisperToMe

As requested I have taken some photos. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is only a small part of the Department of Infrastructure ... However I have taken some photos of the building.

anti-AA (initials) template

Hola ho WTM, I hear you make the template "anti-image muhammad" in Indonesian Wikipedia from Wagino suit. I may ask not to be made template is also just the theme is "support the movement of revocation of management status Albertus Aditya" in Indonesia Wikipedia because it raises the image muhammad in an article (for reasons of the previous template) --Erik Evrest (talk) 12:56, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK OK understand. But how about this template: User:WhisperToMe/Userboxes/NoMo. It's no different with this template because there are also violation elements of freedom in Wikipedia. And "anti this Wikipedian being an administrator" template means it's okay.
One more, on my talk page if you want to create a message / reply to me there are provisions which read: "Harap dengan Anda memencet tombol bertuliskan "Ngobrol Bareng Yuk !" jika ingin membuat pesan baru kepada saya agar dapat segera ter-arsip-kan dan pasti saya akan tetap membalas pesan Anda" or its translation is "Please be with you squeeze button marked "Ngobrol Bareng Yuk !" if you want to make the new message to me so that can bewas archive and I definitely will keep reply to your message" (Erik Evrest Constitution in 2010, number 6, first sentence) And ask for your previous message about this move is also on the archive page along with a reply to this message.Erik Evrest (talk) 12:38, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

London Southend Airport

Can you somehow put an edit notice on this page saying that future services/carriers must have an actual start date and a source? A vast couple of IPs continue to add EasyJet as starting services and "April 2012" is not a date. We have made hidden notes (4 times already) but it keeps getting reworded. Portal:Houston

Great stuff! I'm starting to get in your way, I think (we had two Ima Hoggs for a while...) so I'll move elsewhere and perhaps have a poke around later, if you like. I've boldly got rid of the "news" section and I'd suggest doing the same for the "Music, art and culture" section (saving any decent articles for the article/biography sections) unless of course you think you've got enough articles to make it viable. It's looking much better already. BencherliteTalk 19:41, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Random quotes sounds a good idea too. This should be an easy "keep" at WP:FPOR soon - we'll need some more DYKs but that should be OK (I've set up Portal talk:Houston/Distinguished articles to deliver a bot run of items, which we can then pick from). Polish presidential aircraft crash reports

Hey, just out of curiosity: what do you need those transcripts and reports for? Wikipedia work or something outside of the project? It's just that I'm from Poland and I was wondering what one might need them for. Cheers, Ouro (blah blah) 06:37, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I created the page because of the video game but actually it should be not only about the game. What do you think? --Hydao (talk) 10:49, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you take a look at this? Delta's service to ATL will suspended for the winter and will resume next summer (hence seasonal). However, an IP continues to insists that airline will operate next winter when schedules for that seasonal haven't been published yet. I just wanted to know if it is indeed seasonal. Snoozlepet (talk) 14:45, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to explained to him this but he keep saying that me and Wikipedia are misleading and fails to understands seasonal routing. I think that is a personal attack to me. Whenver a route doesn't operate during a particular season (regardless of reason e.g. poor loads, etc), we denote it as "seasonal" until it becomes bookable again the next season, right? but he insists that it will operate all year. Delta's booking system and schedules only go thru May 2012. We need to go with the airline's schedules and booking systems say. So, indeed this is a seasonal route for now until it is bookable for next winter. Snoozlepet (talk) 20:07, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WhisperToMe,

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks!

Hey,

I don't know if you're following the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request#Accident report in ICAO Accident Digest but I think I've found the document you want. I'm not 100% sure its the correct volume however, so is there anything you can tell me about the report that will help me identify that its the right one before I order it from the depository library? US vs America

'In the English language "American" is commonly used to mean "US"'

I know there are a significant number of people who are offended when US is referred to as America. In the case of articles like those related to Guam, the "more proper" form seems even more appropriate as it is a legal territory of the Unites States of America. Hoping it is ok with you to post this here. DG12 (talk) 19:10, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, dropping a note to let you know I've undone a change of yours at this article, specifically your change of MAK to IAC. As the article has long used MAK and other Russian acronyms are in common use (CCCP and KGB are the two most common ones) I think we should discuss the change first, and have therefore opened a discussion on the relevant talk page. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! N419BH 03:12, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Egypt Air Flight 990 Egypt Civil Aviation Agency final report

No, unfortunately it looks to me that the NTSB website redesign is very much a work in progress and the Docket Management Search function does not appear to work. A cursory search of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry website did not reveal any English language links. I imagine that the docket contents will be available online again at some point. I need your guidance

An article I created Canal 5 (which is a Mexican broadcast television network with about 100 affiliate local stations thoughout Mexico) got renamed to Canal 5 (Televisa Network). For the last 5 years it erroneously redirected to the network's flagship station XHGC-TV. Seeing that plus there aren't any networks or stations with Canal 5 as their official name, some local stations are just informally known as canal 5 (channel 5). I created the article for the Canal 5 network. 100% (hundreds) of the articles that link to Canal 5 are intended for the network article I created. The user renamed Canal 5 I created without any discussion. He added cfds to the articles pertaining the network although there aren't any networks with Canal 5 as their name. See Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 July 4. Can I rename this article back to its original name and add the other uses template leading to canal 5 disamiguation (which would only have two links the article I created and Canal 5 Noticias C5N an argntine cable television news channel)? In my opinion a network's official name outranks stations' informal names and I don't want to start a wikipedian redirect war LOL. thank you for your time, -AMAPO (talk) 11:59, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Minal/Amina

WhisperToMe, the NYT article simply references Hajratwala's blog. MacMaster and others have publicly disputed the "facts" that are reported. Hence, simply showing that one unreliable source was repeated doesn't make it reliable. That is one lesson of this whole affair. Again, there's no real reason to insist on placing one insignificant person's claims against another insignificant person in the articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joatsimeon (talkcontribs) 17:20, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orient Thai's One-Two-Go OG269 crash

I don't know if your page is the correct place to reply to the concerns about verifiability, so I have editing your page and mine. You had concerns regarding original research etc, regarding the causes of the crash and systemic material,(presumably). The material I commented as "commonly known" and referenced earlier on this page, has now been published in numerous formats including the NTSB report, the Thai version of the Crash Report, the British Coroner's report and several news articles. Therefore, I plan to update the information in the article and remove the dispute tag. InvestigateUdom (talk) 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion to pull WikiProject Mexican Americans under WikiProject United States

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Mexican-Americans, to which you are a member, may be inactive or semi active and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. After reviewing the project it appears that there have not been any active discussions on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. I have begun a discussion on the projects talk page to see how the members of the project feel about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 00:27, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:MusyaScreenshot00.PNG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:MusyaScreenshot00.PNG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. Non-free rationale for File:KenseidenAlexKidd.PNG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:KenseidenAlexKidd.PNG.

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:16, 13 August 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Philly HS for Girls pic

I'm not sure if this fits the bill, but I have a fairly mediocre pic on file File:Philly HS for Girls.jpg. One problem is that I think this is just the gym. Another potential problem is that there are a couple other schools nearby that might be confused with PHS for Girls. If you are looking for something in particular, I have to do some photography in Philly anyway (within a month) and can go shoot another pic. All the best. Edit Notice for AirTran Airways

Can you make a edit notice regarding AirTran's headquarter location Although AirTran is a subsidiary of Southwest, the airline itself is still headquartered in Orlando (like any airline merger). Unless a source is provided stating that AirTran has moved its headquarters and employees from Orlando to Dallas, the headquarters should stay Orlando. I have reverted his edits and provided a fact sheet from AirTran's website as a source unless the headquarters location changes. Snoozlepet (talk) 03:07, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BAE Systems

My point is it is overkill to add three references when once suffices. Let's stick to one reference and if anybody challenges it we can back it up with further references.

Secondly please consider your tone - telling me what I can say in an article and where to say it is perhaps not the most constructive form of communication. Comes across a bit like ownership.

Please consider that this is a featured article, and to have "Westminster, City of Westminster, London," in the intro, breaking the flow of an already long sentence is not appropriate for what should be prose of the highest quality. It is certainly worth a mention in the main body if you think that is important.

File:ContinentalSquare.JPG

Hi, WhisperToMe. I stumbled across File:ContinentalSquare.JPG, a photo you took of a building in France. You haven't tagged it with a free license tag, and in fact you added a non-free use rationale to it, citing the fact that architectural works in France retain a copyright. That's probably true—I don't know much about French copyright law. But even if the building itself is under copyright protection, the act of photographing it creates a new (additional) copyright, correct? So it seems to me that you should freely license the copyright you hold in the photographic aspects of the image: the angle of the photograph, the time of day, the framing of the shot, and so forth. Sure, the building itself will still be copyrighted, and so the image as a whole won't be free, but your contributions will be free at least.

The other question I have about this image is how the non-free aspect of it meshes with WP:NFCC, especially point 3b (low resolution; this is a high-resolution photograph) and point 4 (previous publication; I assume this photograph hasn't been previously published outside of Wikipedia, but maybe the fact that the building exists counts as being "publicly displayed"?). What is your interpretation of the policy in this instance? —Bkell (talk) 20:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lincoln County template

Either it's a community or it's not. If it's a community, it needs to have the state name attached unless it's on the AP list of well-known cities. Moreover, the intro for the article says that it's a prison: it does not say that it's any sort of community. If you believe that it's the type of place that begins on this template, you need to repurpose it. Better idea: try to write a separate article about the area where the free people live. Nyttend (talk) 02:25, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot to say: Articles are listed on templates based on the content found in the article. Besides the intro, the rest of the article says nothing about the area in which the free people live, so it's entirely inappropriate (regardless of what you said on my talk page just now about the free people) to include an article exclusively about a prison facility on the template. Nyttend (talk) 02:28, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The best thing to do is to write a separate article or to drop the issue: they're distinctly different entites, since prisons are not populated places. Nyttend (talk) 02:38, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Aircraft Accident Investigation Board requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Adamdaley (talk) 23:18, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Portuguese in Angola

Actually, from what I understand, 60% of the pop of Angola are native Portuguese speakers. Comes from the mixing of all the displaced people during the decades of war, for whom Port. was the only common language. — kwami (talk) 22:36, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As you'll see from our Languages of Angola article, reliable data does not seem to be available. As for Angola being excluded from the total for Portuguese, you can see that at Ethnologue itself: por They give the figure "57,600 in Angola (1993)", essentially zero, while the data we have is that 1/3 of the pop (5M) are monolingual in Port, and 2/3 speak Port as their native language, though the latter doesn't square with 1/2 speaking Bantu natively. (As I said, the data isn't very reliable.) — kwami (talk) 23:31, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You recently removed the convention on this list that all names follow the Japanese name order (family name, given name). While your solution of following the Japanese order for politicians born before 1868, and the Western order for those born in 1868 or later, follows the letter of MOS:JAPAN, it is extremely confusing and inconsistent in a list which spans the two periods without a gap. For instance, Wakatsuki Reijirō and Osachi Hamaguchi were born only four years apart, and were consecutive Prime Ministers, but their names now follow different orders. I recommend that this be reconsidered. BartBassist (talk) 16:49, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a bit of a cheat's solution, but could we argue that, although the early PMs were born before the Meiji era, the first term started in 1885, in the Meiji era, so we should treat all the PMs as modern figures and use the western order. That way, the list would at least be consistent. BartBassist (talk) 17:36, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Kreon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The fictional character does not meet the general notability guideline and, without reception and significance in reliable secondary sources independent of the subject, the topic of the article is not suitable for Wikipedia as a stand-alone article since it falls into WP:IINFO.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Continental Airlines HQ

I see that Continental has moved its headquarters from Houston to Chicago. But however, shouldn't we keep this article and its infobox historical up until the merger (i.e. frequent flyer progam was OnePass; lounge was Presidents Club, and HQ was Houston, TX but now Chicago, IL). I think that the headquarters parameter should include both Houston and Chicago cause historically, CO was based in Houson up until the merger. I think that we should wait once the merger is completed, the infobox should we kept pre-merger (at least). Snoozlepet (talk) 21:14, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Texas Historic Sites Atlas references

Hi, WhisperToMe - I don't suppose you know anyone who could create and run a bot for this.

For anyone who has linked references to search results obtained at Texas Historic Sites Atlas, please note that they changed their URL somewhat. If you linked to a reference obtained by right-clicking and then "Open Link in a new window", the result of opening in a new window is where they changed the address. In essence, they removed the "common/" part of the address. Rather than the Texas Historical Commission just redirecting links going to the old address, it seems it will be up to the individual editor to go back and manually correct such links the editor may have inserted in any Wikipedia article.

Here's details of the difference:

All they did was remove the word "common" and a forward slash, but it messes up any Wikipedia links out there to the old address.

Going to take the day off and do some more shooting. Let me know if you have any requests. I'll also try to go by that Monument in downtown today before the sun goes down. --Hourick (talk) 15:33, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Uploaded the following File:Oldharriscountycourthouse.JPG , File:PipeorganFirstMethodistchurchHouston.JPG Actually, the one that you ID'ed as the Rice Hotel is Club Quarters, and the unidentified building as actually BG Group Place. I'm currently working ID'ing that other photo that you found pretty. Going to try to head over to the Sacred Heart Cathedral sometime in the near future. THOSE photos should be cool!--Hourick (talk) 14:57, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HFD En la Spanish

I can go ahead and do that, but I'll only do a paragraph or two at a time since my spanish is suspect. Did you also post this over on the various projects related (Houston, Fire, History, etc) to it? I intended to do the HFD history in spanish as well, but it just seemed overwhelming to me.--Hourick (talk) 18:11, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've had that same problem. The only time I can add something relevant is if something significant happens and I jump and save the various news stories related to the event, and since I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to do that. :( --Hourick (talk) 18:20, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Hi! Do you do photo requests in Detroit? Are you willing to go to southwest Detroit? If so, I have some ideas for photos WhisperToMe (talk) 03:37, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you're referring to the Delray neighborhood, I've ventured those streets on a number of occasions, but of course, there are other neighborhoods in the area (Boyton, Springwells, Oakwood Heights, Vernor, etc.). Some of these areas actually have people and operating businesses! I work near the area in the city of Lincoln Park. What ideas of photos are you requesting? I actually have many in a folder of mine. Notorious4life (talk) 03:53, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I got your list. Those are all places I am familiar with (at least location wise), and a 20 minute drive can get me those pictures in good time. I actually work for the school system in Lincoln Park, so taking pictures of schools happens to be an interest of mine. I used to have a bunch of pictures of Southwestern High School since I once walked the halls of that school in the days of my undergrad program, but those have been lamentably lost. I will let you know as soon as I round up some new pictures. Notorious4life (talk) 04:12, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've taken pictures you requested for the city of Detroit and River Rouge. That's as much sunlight as I had today. Before I upload the images to one of my subpages, do you want the images as 4:3 (3648 × 2736 px) or 16:9 (3648 × 2056)? The camera I used can resize images to any size within those two formats, and I was going to upload two images of each location requested. Notorious4life (talk) 22:30, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:NightwingSculpture.JPG

Thank you for uploading File:NightwingSculpture.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 22:24, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

United/Continental

Both carriers have been given approval from the FAA to receive a single operating certificate on November 30, 2011. Will Continental be considered defunct on November 30th or will it continue to operate. From November 30, shouldn't we list all the CO flights as "United operated by Continental". Image contributions and stub-creation

Olá. I appreciate your invite on stub-creation, but its not my thing: I like content elaboration rather then merely adding short blurbs (not barring data editing) or even stub creation. Further, although born in Portugal and working here for five years, I do not tend to edit on the Portuguese-side of Wikipedia: its a wild west environment, with many nationalists unfriendly to the rules on the English counterpart. In fact, you will notice that many of the "conventions" pages are not available or not followed. But, that is my personal opinion. In regards to your request for pictures. Sorry. I am in the Azores, and apart from two short hops to the continent in the past two years, my photo-taking has been limited to this region. When on the continent, I did visit Lisbon, Nazaré, Coimbra and Porto, but I likely could not contribute to specific images. Sorry. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 08:59, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will be happy to get some images of the SATA headquarters in Ponta Delgada (and, yes, I am on the island of São Miguel). You will pardon me if I am not too quick, being Christmas and overloaded with work, I may not get down to the centre of town immediately. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 16:12, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is quite interesting. I believe that SATA long-ago tookover international connectivity to the Azores. When I lived in Canada it was the only way to get to the islands: direct flights to Santa Maria, Lajes or Ponta Delgada. The same is the case for American origin points. TAP influence in this market is limited to code-sharing direct flights to Horta, Ponta Delgada and Lajes from the continent. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 17:00, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have not had the opportunity yet (just back from Holidays), and the weather has been bad. Will see what tomorrow (weekend) is like to get shots. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 18:24, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is a matter of opinion I guess. If you look at some new articles then they do have links back to portals. If you look at the French wikipedia then they do it on every article. Personally I think it is inappropriate and would lead to people like Obama carrying ads for every portal from Africa to Hawaii. I'm happy to agree to differ but you will see that only some projects encourage this and only some editors include them. As I feel strongly that we should not advertise then I see these as a step in the wrong direction. Should someone be really interested in finding the "Christianity Portal" then they will find it. I don't want to see that portal advertised on everyone' article who may have been christian - I can imagine that some people would and I#m not sure it would be because of their enthusiasm for Wikipedia but for Christianity (nice idea, but doesnt need ads on Wikipedia). Dup pages in San Antonio

Hi there, and greetings for a successful 2012 to you. I think San Antonio Military Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center duplicate each other. Brooke is also known as SAMMC. Both articles use the same NRHP listing number. NRHP lists it as Brooke. Please advise how this should be handled.Maile66 (talk) 22:00, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to the merge, the official site says it's Brooke. Should I tag the SAMMC discussion page, which will probably leave it in limbo forever? For the most part, the Brooke article already has a section on SAMMC that covers what is in the separate article. Maile66 (talk) 22:31, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gulfton Pics

Thanks for the updates! You got some really good photos of it. I'm not sure if it would be wise to give them publicity, but then again, there are a variety of gangs that have their own articles.

On the topics of Pics, I was driving down Memorial park a few days ago and noticed how many trees were marked to be cut down. I think one of us needs to hustle down to take a good picture showing the line of trees with the markings. I'll give it a shout, but I'm hardly in that area that often and it would require a good enough of a walk to find the "right" composition.

Also, I plan on doing a doing a photo run of the rail lines under construction. I already have a youtube vid of it, but I plan on doing one before the 3rd before they close off another section of the road. Hoping you have had a kick ass Christmas and a awesome near year --Hourick (talk) 17:12, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that the Cholos were on there before hand, so I think the addition is appropriate as well.
Never did note where the trees were. Since I was driving, I didn't get TOO good of a look at them or their locations. I was still a new section if you're interested in pursing this, but I've been thinking of starting a page of high rises in Houston. Since most buildings aren't notable enough for their own article, I figure this would be a good place to "park" the buildings until that happen. My cut off for such buildings would be about 20 storeys. Do you have any opinion or guidance on it and possibly take it to Project Houston?--Hourick (talk) 21:22, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Skyscraper page

I think I'm going to go forward with this page and will just start gathering information from several sources here in Houston. I think I'm going to make the cut-off at about 20 storeys since there doesn't seem to be any reasonable consensus on what a "high rise" is. I'm going to make a brief mention on this on the Project Houston page and post things from my sandbox. --Hourick (talk) 04:21, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another urgent administrative assistance solicited!

Kindly look at Ehsan Mehmood Khan, an article about a Pakistani defence and security analyst who has studied at National Defense University Washington D.C and is now pursuing M.Phil from National Defence University, Pakistan. Khan has written extensively on defence, security, terrorism, strategic issues, etc in various national and international newspapers, magazines and journals. His articles have been cited by reputable academics and analysts. A number of reliable sources and secondary references have been incorporated in the article. Article has though been created by another editor User:JC Bills. Unfortunately, owing to egoistic edit feud of one User:Ehsan Sehgal who has now changed his user identity as User:Justice007 (and who incidentally belongs to same district of Pakistan wherefrom Ehsan Mehmood Khan do), there is edit warring going on. The said user has been placing WP:Notability and WP:Reliable sources maintenance tags every now and then. Now on his behest, one other editor has proposed the article for deletion. Though I have not created the article yet I know sufficiently about the subject. May be, I am going to add few pictures of Ehsan Mehmood Khan with Mike Mullen in future. You are requested to visit the article and take just and fair decision as admin and remove the notability, reliable sources and AFD tags by deciding the issue per justice and fair play. NYT discussion

I wouldn't mind being copied on the discussion. Whatever the NYT decision I don't think we should choose to offend; but it's useful to get different idustry perspectives. – SJ + 17:13, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, don't send copies to Aphaia. I'm sure she doesn't want anything to do with this conversation, as it only serves as a source of irritation for her. As I mentioned before, she would likely prefer it that you not cite or reference her in any articles, since there is a chance that you will simply refer to her in an offensive way. – SJ + 10:27, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You may not realize it, but you are wikilawyering! There's no consensus among traditional sources abuot how to present this particular person's name, precisely because she is not broadly notable.
Regardless of the NYT's practice, it seems to me the only possible outcomes are leaving in such cites using the common (and inoffensive) name, or taking the cites out. Their notability and contribution to the articles is marginal. – SJ + 03:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Photos in Barcelona

Another user of the Catalan Wikipedia has warned us [2] about the need to get photos of two places in Barcelona. I would do the photo of Norma Editorial. Tell me exactly what you need. Any special specification? I will try to do next week if you tell me what is for. Tell me something here ca:Usuari Discussió:Bestiasonica. C U --Bestiasonica (talk) 22:56, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Usually I would photograph the main entrance of the building, particularly the one with the logos of the particular company posted.
  • For Norma Editorial (Passeig de Sant Joan 7. 08010 Barcelona. Spain) - Try to get this perspective: Map - It would show the building itself and the Norma Editorial logos

Thank you :) WhisperToMe 00:03, 9 gen 2012 (CET)

Hi. Ok. I will try to do a wider perspective trying to show the whole facade of the shop. But it is only the main shop i think that the editorial is on the upstairs flats. There is no problem with the copyright because in Spain if the image is taken on the street is considered public domain image. I will try to upload the image in a few days. Showing the facade relating to Norma Editorial (logos of the shop and cartoons in upper flats). --Bestiasonica (talk) 23:24, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Stub tags

Hi, When creating articles like The New Jersey Japanese School, please remember that stub tags go after everything except inter-language links (see WP:FOOTERS). If you put them in the right place it saves some conscientious stub-sorter from having to move them! Thanks. PamD 19:42, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nortwest Airways requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Removing Speedy at Nortwest Airways

Hi WhisperToMe, you recently removed a deletion tag from Nortwest Airways. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 17:30, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The speedy deletion request is correct. Since when has Northwest been known as Nortwest? Don't you notice, the first 't' is missing? A redirect page isn't needed.- William 17:39, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Little Fatty and Qian Zhijun

I have deleted these articles. As you obviously are aware they were deleted in 2007, after AFD discussion, a wheel war and an arbcom case - where a user was severely sanctioned for his cavalier attitude to BLP. The will of the community and BLP was quite clear. Recreating an two articles on this chap, with images and "BLP headers" on the pretext of bit parts in films, (linked to articles you also created), without any discussion to see if people agreed with your assertion of growing notability, when you knew the extreme BLP controversy surrounding this, strikes me as wholly irresponsible, disruption to make a point, and borderline trolling. I've asked other admins to review your other BLP contributions. I'm going to leave it at that for now, but I suggest you don't play games with BLP.--Scott Mac 01:10, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article La Fiesta has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Neither of these links goes to a page that mentions "La Fiesta."

Japanese translation

Hi! I checked the official report. They use the term "異常事態発生機定位置" for "Explosion site". So please use it. See page 2 of this pdf file. As for "Part", they use number 1 to 6 to describe the 6 broken parts of the bulkhead. See page 33 of the pdf file. According to other official report pdf file, they call the "Part" A and B as ベイ/bei/bay. See page 12. Bay 2 and 3 were single row riveted/1列リベット結合. Bay 1, 4, and 5 were double row riveted/2列リベット結合. This en page and its fig. 5 and fig. 2 would be very helpful, I should say. The Japanese page is here. I think it might be accurate to use the term "Bay A". Oda Mari (talk) 15:00, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Additionally, please see page 6/33 of the first pdf file. The term the report use for "section A" "section B" turns out to be A部位, B部位 and "row 60" and "row 54" are 座席列番号60 and 座席列番号54. If you want the original terms from the official report, please use them. Oda Mari (talk) 15:27, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Miami

Sorry I don't live in the Miami area currently. Might want to try asking people in the Florida Wikiproject. Spongie555 (talk) 06:48, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have a problem

and I have come up with a non-standard way of dealing with it. I am going to pitch my solution to half a dozen long term editors whom I respect and get some feedback. I am picking you off my watchlist. I am confused, sober and looking for answers and honesty. It all starts with the Ignore all rules postulate.

Over the years I have amassed a lot of documentary materials. My great-grandfather lived in China, my grandfather was born there. Both took pictures. My grandfather took pictures as a doctor in both WWI and WWII. I have become the family archivist and I call the collection the Carpchives. In an earlier wikipedia incarnation this collection was referred to as the eekives. It was involved in a quite heated discussion here [3] - Disputed Image section and eventually the picture was removed. By me, as I recall. The picture in question was of my father-in-law in the US Merchant Marines during WWII. Another picture taken during the Boxer rebellion has since been removed. It was a bit funky, for sure.

There are a number of signatures that I've added to articles, some from my family archives, some I've had signed, other turn up in used books. Some of this stuff that is already in wikipedia is here:

I'm pretty sure there is more.

I also have a great collection of Corrado Parducci stuff, his "Job Book" written by him, copies of hundreds of photographs of his works in the plaster stage in his studio, a copy of his scrap book and more. I once had a project going to try and identify 75 sculptors in a photograph that was published in LIFE Magazine in 1949, located several of the artists still alive and corresponded with many children and grandchildren. Unfortunately much of that was lost in one of several dramatic computer and other failures in my life, but much remains. Then there is what I call the "my father (or grandfather) was a famous sculptor and..." syndrome. Through that I've collected a great CD filled with Rene Paul Chambellan's scrap books, as well as letter, papers, photographs and all sorts of that sort of things from a variety of other folks.

I always share. Well, almost always. So, I'd like to set up, on wikipedia, a Charpchives article or perhaps, a subpage of my user page or something, where these things could be referenced to and anyone who wanted to check up on something could contact me there.

Or is this all just some mutation of perversion of original research? Or even hubris? The thing about this material is that little of it in mine, although some of that does appear too. this is not my blog. Or should I just put it all on my blog and forget using it on wikipedia?

Thanks for getting back to me so soon and with such straightforwardness. Your reply seems to be setting the tone for others, sort of the industry standard. The pictures are not really the issue, although I have a difficult time uploading to commons, it is more things such as, I have a letter to a sculptor asking him to head the architectural sculpture section at BAID, on their letterhead. A job he took. How do I reference that letter? Something will happen, maybe a subpage. Thanks again Carptrash (talk) 15:10, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am, on occasion, an ignore all rules editor. This letter is what proves he had the job. This and another later one. I am figuring if I set up a subpage and post the letter there, that that might work. Make the primary source a secondary one through wikipedia. other wise I'll just use it as the reference but it will not be available for inspection. Carptrash (talk) 15:23, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am very aware that IAR is a rocky road to ride. Best avoided, but like Robert Frost, I feel somewhat compelled to travel the path less taken. Thanks for the tip about Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, I will head that way, probably in a few days since today is the 12th busiest day of my long life.
