Speedy deletion of New Holland Machine Company

[edit]

A tag has been placed on New Holland Machine Company requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Mfield (talk) 05:56, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On March 1st you added several paragraphs of material to this article, however it was badly formatted and pretty much just stuck semi-randomly into the existing text. Please take some care to make sure that when you add material to an article it is properly placed, and properly formatted. I have corrected what you added, as did several other editors, but the article has been malformed and less than usable for our readers for several months now.

If you have questions, please ask someone -- mose editors here, including myself, are more than happy to lend a hand or give advice. Thanks. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 20:22, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poland

[edit]

You added a lot of badly formatted and insufficiently referenced text to a leading article on the subject.[1] Repairing your edits and tracking down online references which you (intentionally?) omitted is too much of a challenge for any single editor, therefore I have no choice but to revert your edits. At present your copy fails both WP:SOURCE and WP:MOSBETTER. The article is too important to be left malformed for any period of time. Please use sandbox in the future and ask other Wikipedians for comments on your drafts (including me) in order to meet the required standards. Thanks, and please don't take it personally. -- Poeticbent talk 07:10, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ibid...

[edit]

Thanks for your additions to History of Indonesia. As a heads up, using "ibid" for references is problematic for wikipedia as it's more than likely someone is going to insert additional text and references in between some of the ibid's. The wikipedia way to list more than one occurrence of the same reference can be seen in the same article - look at ref numbers 18 and 19 - note how in the notes section below, these appear a few times. Why not copy that formatting for the ibid references? If you need any further help, please let me know. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 03:15, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hy there. I noticed your edits at the articles Parthian Empire and Classical Greece. Your changes to the contents of said articles seem to be fine but you also changed the dating system (from BC/AD towards BCE/CE). I have reverted these changes (besides some minor improvements); under WP:ERA such a change is a tricky business. First it needs good reasons. Then it has to be announced at the talkpage and agreed upon by the clear majority of editors. Unilateral changes can be reverted and the original dating system has he "home advantage". IMHO the majority of History articles use BC/AD. Flamarande (talk) 17:26, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You've been here for awhile, so please take a few moments to review WP:STUB and WP:MOS before contributing any new content. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:35, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Johann Joseph Jansen has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

After less than a month, development of this article has been abandoned. The only gesture towards notability is a biographical note in Volume 10 of the "Collected Works".

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dolphin (t) 12:28, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent articles

[edit]

Hi, WellsSouth. My attention was drawn to the articles you have recently been creating on German socialists because someone added the Articles for Deletion discussions for two of them to the List of Germany-related deletion discussions, which I have watchlisted. So I looked at those two and a few more in the list of articles you have created, and improved one a little bit (and moved it to a more accurate version of the person's name and put in the interwiki link to the article on him at German Wikipedia). I'm afraid all of these articles appear to have a problem with notability. Here's the applicable standard for articles about people. As a rule of thumb, I believe articles about someone who is not immediately eye-poppingly obviously notable (e.g., won the Nobel Prize, was a head of state, has a big scientific theory or political school of thought named after her or him such that the name is a household word or is taught in schools) need to have 2 good references so that people will not challenge them. A listing in an index or list of names is not enough - at least a short paragraph, preferably a newspaper article and ideally a book about the person (not written by the person or a relative or spouse). Or if 2 good ones don't seem to be out there, a whole bunch of little mentions, at least one of which should say the person is/was important. Also, the first sentence must clearly say why the person is memorable/important. That either comes before the "was born in (year) in (place)" or includes it. Have a look at a few articles and you'll see the 2 patterns. And all Wikipedia articles are supposed to have the name of the article in boldface in the first sentence. So - if you can find at least one more reference before you create an article, and if you state in the first sentence what the person did that is important, then the articles are much less likely to be proposed for rapid deletion or taken to Articles for Deletion. I'm really sorry that no one welcomed you and gave you links to the main policies and where to look them up, but you've been here for a good while now, so I decided that would be rude at this point and that a specific note would be better. We need enthusiastic people who want to write articles and add information and references to existing articles; I hope you won't let all the templates sprouting here put you off, but I think you need to strengthen your articles to stop this from happening. And I hope I've given you good pointers as to how. If not, drop me a note at my talkpage and I'll see if I can help. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:54, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Freidrich Anneke. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Fritz Anneke. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Fritz Anneke - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. LeoHerz (talk) 16:46, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit(s) to French Wars of Religion

I would like to see the quote from R.J.Knecht's, The French Wars of Religion 1559-1598, page 17, concerning Marguerite of Angouleme(ie.Marguerite of Navarre), stating she was a Calvinist.[2]

These sources state otherwise:

  • Francis I, by R. J. Knecht, page 142.

I would like to see the quote for R. J. Knecht, French Wars of Religion: 1559-1598, p. 65, concerning this sentence, "A test of King Henry III's leadership occurred at the meeting of the Estates-General at Blois in December 1570".[3] --Kansas Bear (talk) 17:48, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since you have ignored all of my comments on your talk page regarding your plagiarism and original research, I have taken your questionable source, Madame Catherine to the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. According to the information I have found concerning Irene Mahoney and the information supplied by Andrew Dalby, Madame Catherine by Irene Mahoney is not a reliable source.[4] --Kansas Bear (talk) 01:05, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please read carefully the information below, including the material linked - particularly that on close paraphrasing.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 14:07, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note from an Administrator

[edit]

Hello. I'm Dougweller, and Administrator and experienced editor, and I've been asked to come here and comment. The first thing that I note is that you have been here for 5 1/2 years, edited almost 300 articles and have made 2,576 edits (not counting. Of these only 3 were talk page edits - 2 to an article you created and one asking for an edit to be made on a protected article. You've never actually engaged in discussion on an article talk page. Worse, you've only made one edit to an editor's talk pages and that was ask how to copy and paste from other sources. In other words, you've never engaged in discussion with other editors. You've also been asked to use WP:Edit summaries to discuss your edits and ignored that request also.

Wikipedia is a collaborative exercise and communication between editors is vital to make it work. That's why we ask editors to use edit summaries to explain their edits and to use talk pages and noticeboards.

Before you edit again I need to to respond to the concerns above about copyvio and plagiarism and to show that you understand our policy and guidelines on this, and to show me that you will start engaging with other editors in discussion. If you can't do this then I'm going to have to block you. I regret doing this but we shouldn't have to be checking editors work for copyvio and plagiarism, issues that take up a lot of our time. Hopefully there won't be any problem and you can move from here to becoming a better editor. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 14:25, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You obviously are able to communicate as you are editing your userpage to communicate your ideas, but that isn't sufficient. It does show however that you have been logged into Wikipedia. I don't want to block you but if you choose to ignore our policies and guidelines and other editors, I may have no choice. Dougweller (talk) 18:35, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
