I can see now that this article on the "New Holland Machine Company needs to be merged with the current Wifipedia article called New Holland Agra. I am new to this and still do not know haw to conduct this merger without rewriting the whole article all over again. New Holland farm machinery is still being sold throughout the world. Although, originally a company localized to the Pennsylvania Dutch country of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the New Holland Machine Company very quickly grew into world wide importance. Because of the many innovations of the Company in the areas of ensilage harvesting and dry hay making, the company has come to be known as the company that is "first in grassland farming."
Unlike so many farm equipment companies whose names have disappeared from the scene due to mergers with larger corporate entities, the New Holland Company name still appears on the hay making euipment that continues to flow from the companies factory in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Indeed, evn though the company has tradtionally been a "short line" company (meaning that the company did not produce a farm tractor and was not, therefore, a full line farm equipment company), the company in 1992 purchased the Ford Tractor Division of the Ford Company. These tractors are now marketed under the name anew Holland. Conseuently, New Holland is at long last, a full line farm eauipment manufacturer. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by WellsSouth (talk • contribs) - in July 2008
I oppose a merger. I think it is better to keep one article for historical information and another for current information. A single article would become too long. Biscuittin (talk) 08:14, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose I agree with Biscuittin to oppose - as it would be a bad move in that modern company articles tend to 'loose' historical info as they get longer (and some editors more of a 'pr' interest add modern 'News' entries). A short summary should be included and refer back to this one for the earlier company. As New Holland Ag has undergone several name / ownership changes to get to curent incarnation. -- BulldozerD11 (talk) 19:09, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm removing the merge templates; they've been on the two articles for over twenty months and attracted (i think) three comments, none of which is in favour of the merge; the editor who made the original suggestion didn't comment at all, which i find odd; there seems to be no reason to leave the templates in place.
