Request for edit summary

[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:21, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

use of StatusTemplate

[edit]

Hi, I copied your StatusTemplate in my Italian page it:Utente:Wiso. I have a question: how do you change your status (in/studying...), manually? Maybe it's possibile to use the monobook.js. --WISo 13:12, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've copied the idea off other people so it's not new. Anyway, the way I have it, there are two pages, one for the underlying template and one for setting the actual status. This I transclude to all my other userpages. The important code is
{{#switch:{}
| in=<span style="color:green;">Available</span>
| busy=<span style="color:red;">Busy</span>
| away=<span style="color:orange;">Reduced Activity</span>
| studying=<span style="color:orange;">"Studying" (but still in touch)</span>
| #default=<span style="color:red;">Status unknown</span>
}}
The #switch parser function is what allows me to choose the setting. {} defines the parameter that I change. The lines below that are cases for that particular parameter and if the parameter passed match one listed, then that is included.
For example, if I set my status to in, I would call the template using . In the main template {{#switch:{} tells the "compiler" that is wants to compare the first parameter that is provided. The next five lines are cases that can be checked against. This is written in the form: | parameter=what is to be included. So it sees the "in" possibility and inserts Available into the page. The #default parameter is there in case no parameter is passed.
I think I've waffled on, so if you need more help, feel free to reply. :) Harryboyles 06:51, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
(After rereading your question, the most important bit is the bolded bit. Harryboyles 06:54, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Serio

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Serio, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Serio seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Serio, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
